21세기 한국선교교육과 훈련의 개혁방안: 한국선교훈련원(GMTC) 사례를 중심으로
변진석(Jinsuk Byun) 주안대학원대학교 출판부 2018 미션네트워크 Vol.6 No.-
For the past few decades, voices of concern have been directed toward formal institutions such as universities and seminaries, questioning their capabilities in properly educating and training missionaries. Amidst this growing consternation within the field of global missionary work, the Global Missionary Training Center (GMTC) has trained missionaries for the past three decades by focusing on the benefits of non-formal education. By encouraging interaction between educators and the families in training, GMTC has not only aimed to actively create communities that help trainees develop the necessary knowledge required as missionaries, but has also put effort into implementing integral missionary training to teach essential techniques and build character. This includes elements that formal missionary training institutions have had considerable difficulty including in their own programs. In short, GMTC has tried to embrace the approach of holistic discipleship training by setting the church as its ideal model. Based on this experience, I want to suggest two possible ways that Juan International University(JIU) - a formal institution - can help with the reformation of Korean missionary education and training. The first would be to develop missional theology and the second would be to develop a missiology program integrated with practice. As a new educational institution, I hope that JIU will have a lot to learn from GMTC’s experience when establishing the school’s foundations and direction.
