Vol.- No.40
The Korean Christian Church in Japan (KCCJ) is the central church of the Korean residents in Japan established shortly after liberation. The KCCJ has established the Research Action Institute for the Korean In Japan(RAIK) and the Korean Christian Center (KCC) since 1968 in search of a change in the direction of missionary work. KCCJ led the anti-discrimination and life improvement movement in the 1970s and 1980s, and reorganized its role as a religious community, living community, and social movement community. Behind these activities were changes in Japanese society, the Korean community in Japan, and the impact of the Ecumenical Movement. KCCJ replaced the issue of Korean residents in Japan with universal human rights and minorities, sought solidarity with minorities around the world, participated in peaceful reunification of the two Koreas, and played a role as a mediator in ideological conflict. This reflected the complex nature of KCCJ, a religious organization and also a Korean residents in Japan organization, which served as an important driving force for KCCJ"s social movement.
