The degree of family differentiation has huge influence on interpersonal relations such as family relation, social relation, and relation with oneself. There have been diverse researches on the sub-system of family differentiation and family relation, and those results have proved the necessity and appropriateness of the improvement of family differentiation level. Nevertheless, such researches have not given clear answers to concrete measures or alternatives for the improvement of family differentiation level yet. Thus, the objective of this paper is to deeply study the fundamental understanding of family differentiation in the relational aspect as a series of efforts to seek for answers to the improvement of family differentiation level. This paper has discovered problems of relations commonly shown in family problems by examining the current status of family in the social aspect, and also reviewed the concept of family differentiation in the family therapeutic aspect. After that, considering human's spiritual relations that have not been dealt by the family therapeutic aspect, it aimed to seek for the meaning of more fundamental relations in the center of the concept of family differentiation. In other words, it aimed to discover the fundamental meaning of family relation by examining the dynamic of family relation through family therapy, and also handling the relation between human and God through the Bible in the pastoral counseling aspect. Also, for the practical approach to this, the relation between 'Isaac' and family of origin was intensively analyzed by combining the family therapeutic theory with the theological interpretation.

Adolescents need to resolve a lot of tasks they face in adolescence. But unlike other teenagers, Christian youth is confronted with another challenge, namely how to apply their faith to their lives. The drug-abuse problem is increasingly growing worse among Christian adolescents, but preventive education is scarcely offered at home and church. Few studies have ever been conducted on connections between drug abuse and faith among Christian youth or how church should help them. It's urgently needed to do full-scale research on the situation and its prevention. The purpose of this study was, therefore, to examine the relationship of belief to drug abuse, especially drinking and smoking, among Christian youth in a bid to seek ways for families and churches to cope with it. It's additionally meant to look for some viable preventive measures and counseling approach to facilitate their well-rounded growth. For that purpose, domestic and foreign literatures concerned were reviewed, and then a survey was conducted. The subjects in this study were 400 high school students randomly selected from among Christian youth in Incheon. The included 100 boys and 100 girls from regular high school and 100 boys and 100 girls from vocational high school. The group interview was fulfilled using questionnaires that cover general characteristics and drug experience. The students were asked to tell about their smoking, drinking and illegal inhalant(bond, gas, thinner or varnish) experience and what troubles they suffered at home and school. The findings of this study were as follows: The Christian teenagers investigated were largely exposed to drinking and smoking, as 116 students, more than a fourth, were smokers and 246 students, more than a half, were drinkers. The largest group of the smokers smoked out of curiosity, and 50.9 percent of them, about a half, smoked everyday. This showed that they were already addicted to smoking. In particular, more smoker students were from the vocational high school, and the vocational high school students who smoked everyday outnumbered the regular high school students who did the same. 52.8 percent of the drinkers, more than a half, drunk approximately once a month. The students who were from the vocational high school, upper graders or attended church just for form's sake, drunk more frequently than those who were from the regular high school, lower graders or were reborn. 2.5 percent of the overall subjects sucked in inhalants, and a half of them did it everyday, which implied that the situation was very serious. The Christian teenagers tended not to have a frank talk with their fathers when they consulted with them about their troubles, but had a candid conversation with their mothers. And they mostly discussed their agonies with friends. It's attempted in this study to help families and churches face up to the realities of the youth, and to deliberate on counseling approach to the prevention of drug abuse by the youth, church education for them and the possibility of bringing their problems into settlement. As teenagers should fundamentally be assisted by their families to culture character and fight drug abuse, how families could be more healthy and established firmly was suggested, and then counseling for adolescents and parents was explained as a way to facilitate well-rounded education. For successful church education, it's suggested that church pursue consistency between faith and actual life, and participatory teaching methods and small-group activities that every member shares sympathy and discussion were recommended. As a collective approach, the use of therapeutic peer group was proposed to encourage alienated teenagers to be deeply involved in Christian community and have a true conversation with others. Finally, biblical counseling's object and features were described. The biblical counseling aims at having teenagers convince of the existence of the Lord and facilitating their problem solving, and a model for the prevention of smoking and drug abuse was recommended to help realize their salvation through the work of the Holy Spirit and step up their religious growth.

Marriage is a probably most intimate form of a relationship. To a degree, conflict in such an intimate relationship is expected. There are many reasons for marital problems. Problems can come from finances, family members, sex life, immaturity, communication problem, difference in value system, difference in expectation, personality difference or gender role conflict. Among the problems, difference in personality, values, expectation and gender role is rooted in upbringing of the individuals (hereafter refer to as personal history). Many people do not expect personal history to cause conflicts and wounds. Thus, after marriage they experience many problems. Unresolved marital problems affect individual's mental health. When marital problems become severe, although it may not be of mental illness magnitude, individuals involved suffer from depression, hatred, bitterness and anger leading to emotional instability. Severe marital conflicts also hurt the children affecting their character development. Therefore, one cannot wait passively expecting the marital problem to resolve by itself. During the group therapy sessions, affects of personal history on a marriage and whether the understanding of both self and partner's history offered solutions to the current problems couples were facing were observed. Group therapy was performed to observe what practical help it can offer to existing marital problems to the couples who participated in the group therapy. The therapeutic affects of group therapy seemed suitable in understanding self and the spouse to solve marital problems. Additionally, it was felt that usual healing affects of group therapy will be effective in the context of married couples group therapy. This in regard especially to, the societal notion that marriage problems are private matters which others should not get involved in, can be easily broken through group therapy. It is usual for married couples in counseling to feel that the problem lies in their spouse. However, through group therapy couples receive mutual feedback and begin to see their problems more objectively. Thus, group therapy was chosen as a probable effective approach to marriage problem. The group sessions consisted of 5 couples, each session was 3hours and 30 minutes long and they met for 10 sessions totaling 35 hours. Sessions ran without a format. Each session facilitated the participants to see association between their personal history and marital problems they were experiencing. Also, sessions tried to deepen the understanding of the spouse by understanding how his/her childhood experiences formulated his/her values, attitudes and behaviors. The goal of these sessions were to help the participants to identify and acknowledge the past feelings that has become sources of present marital problem so as to not allow for the past feelings to affect the marriage anymore. After the group session, problems arising from difference in personality rooted in personal history were analyzed. Factors that influenced development of self-image and how self-image affects the marriage was analyzed as well. In addition, the expectations individuals had of their spouse and how that expectation was developed was observed. Feelings expressed during the therapy sessions and how couples were communicating, and nature of problems that arises from conflict in value systems, lifestyles and stereotype of gender role was analyzed also. The healing factors that contributed changes in the couples are as follows. Whether it was explicit or implicit, the group therapy provided a platform for the couples to share their problems. Feeling of acceptance when sharing painful experiences and feelings was a major factor in bringing change. When individuals were free to not hide and openly share their problems, the participants gained courage and confidence to find solution for their problems. The group setting not only provided the platform to share but also a platform to try new behaviors. The positive affirmation from the group strengthened the modified behaviors. Also the exposure to problems of other couples made couples realize they are not alone in these problems. This gave them sense of security, which allowed them to see their problems more objectively. Group setting also allowed the individuals to observe their interpersonal skills and relationships. Through relationships in the group, individuals learned how they relate to others. Honest feedback from the group allowed individuals to face their dark side. Married couples group seemed to give more honest feedback, which contributed to greater healing affect. The particular group, which was the subject of the research, consisted of couples who had prior association. Husbands were members of a same club during college. Therefore, they had close tides. This facilitated the group dynamics and quickly built the atmosphere of trust. This allowed couples to be open and to give honest feedback. The group dynamics helped them to have affinity for the group and caused them to actively participate in the group activities, which expedited change. This research focused on the conflicts that arise from difference of upbringing (personal history)and used group therapy as a means to solved the problem and saw great effectiveness.

Changes in general society have also influenced believers in the church community. The church should help believers in the community adapt to the changing times, suggest suitable alternatives, and as a result, help them lead change. The modern church, however, has failed to deal properly with the spiritual needs of the people and the conflicts inherent in modern life. The church must carefully consider different solutions to the problems experienced by believers' and their desire for growth through the teachings and programs of the church. This thesis suggests a way to solve this problem in the form of Bibliodrama, which in many ways is unique and instructive. Bibliodrama can assist the church in becoming a community of healing and growth as it includes many of the components of group counseling. This study will explain the theoretical background of group counseling and Bibliodrama, detail actual cases of Bibliodrama, and analyze the elements of group counseling in these cases. Through various Bibliodrama activities, participants gain, first, new awareness and understanding of themselves and others. Second, they gain insight and understanding of their own problem and feelings. Third, participants improve interpersonal relationship through learning about interaction with other, and fourth, they gain experience of a positive and receptive relationship. In this manner, Bibliodrama, which includes components of group counseling, may be used in lieu of group counseling in church and in other communities.

In modern society, the adolescents' problems are getting various and serious. Moreover, because generation's gap is getting deeper, it is more difficult to solve the adolescents' problems at school, church, home and so on. Erik Erikson (902~1996) regarded adolesce period as the most important time in 8 development stages. In this period, they worry and struggle a lot for the task of 'Establishment of Self-Identity', but if this time lasts long, they will have confusion in identity. In this sense, runaway is a phenomena of dysfunction in this stage. Runaway is not a simple scholarship problem but also a way for another delinquency, so it can be said runaway has great impact on teenagers. If the runaway period is longer, then they might have sexual problems, such as sex trade, men and women sleeping together, and sexual violence. Therefore it is urgent to have intensive care for runaway youth and solutions. Recently, alternative plans based on reality are proposed and one of them is 'runaway youth shelter' which provides protection and medical service. However, most runaway teenagers stay the shelter for short time and do not join the counseling or healing programs actively so that it is difficult to have efficient results from counseling. Moreover, in most shelter, the counseling approach is crisis intervention, and solution-focused brief counseling program is provided. It is difficult to deal with the runaway teenagers' psychological aspects and origin of the reason for runaway. It is needed that making sure that the runaway youth chose runaway and are responsible for it. It will be meaningful to provide group counseling with reality therapeutic approach to runaway youth because they can share how they feel about the runaway and why. Therefore, to prevent another runaway, and to help the runaway youth' social adjustment, the researcher will develop reality based group counseling program. The program will be easily adopted in welfare center, counseling center, school and shelter where provide counseling to runaway youth.

The purpose of this research is to aid identity establishment and holistic growth for Christian youth, who are created after the image of God. God always helps them to overcome crisis regardless of which obstacles intervene in their lives, as letting them to have indefinite possibility and potentiality. God also helps them to do their best in the life as he offer them dream, hope and courage for the future. According to developmental psychologist Erik Erikson, youth experience crisis when they build up one's identity. When they manage the crisis well in that time, they can have positive identity, self-perception and self-esteem through their lives. On the other hand, when they cannot overcome the crisis and experience confusion of their identity, it would cause the lack of self-esteem, feeling inferiority therefore they would experience role confusion as an adult in the future. The concept of 'holistic growth counseling' can be summarized as 'potentiality development' or 'liberation', according to pastoral counselor Howard Clinebell. Potentiality development is the continuous process to realize the image of God, and liberation is becoming free from obstacles which hinder the process. The purpose of growth counseling is to help youth to build up positive life and constructive future rather than restricted to past. Growth counseling assists students to treat themselves valuably and have ability to love God and neighbors, so that they can eventually take care of others in the future. This paper reinforces spirituality, admits history of the Holy Spirit who participates in counseling process, which is especially emphasized in Christian counseling, and lets young people to find potentiality and possibility so that they can find meanings and values of their own life based on holistic growth counseling theory of Clinebell. This research makes use of collective art therapy in order to achieve the goal. Group art therapy can help interviewee to express unconscious motive, desire and impulse naturally so that they can experience catharsis. The collective art therapy enhances frank expression of fact, feeling, reaction toward others' story and emotion. This self-opening process can be accelerated through collective activity. This research designs and executes group art therapy program for youth, so that it can contribute to Christian identity, holistic growth and self-expression. As a result, Christian youth would be able to have conviction of their identity, and find their own potentiality and possibility. Therefore, this program would allow them to have dream and vision for future, and eventually would offer a program which can contribute to holistic growth, hope and courage building.
