        This study was attempted to clarify the relationship between mother's rearing attitude, children's personality characteristics (rigidity), dietary behavior, I.Q., academic achievement and Ro¨hrer index of the children. For the purpose of this study, rigidity and mother's rearing attitude were measured by questionnaire through preliminary inquiry and modification and I.Q. test standardized by Ho Kwon Kim were administered to the 400 children from elementary school located in Seoul. F-test, t-test and pearson's correlation were adopted for the data analysis. The major findings were as follows 1. There were significant relationship between mother's rearing attitude and the following variables : children's rigidity, academic achievement, and Ro¨hrer index. The stronger rejective mother's rearing attitude was, the lower were the I.Q. scores and academic achievement of the children. 2. There showed significant relationship between following two variables: mother's age and children's I.Q. scores, mother's educational level and dietary behavior, mother's educational level and academic achievement. 3. There showed significant differences in I.Q. scores among ordinal positions. 4. The children's rigidity was positively related to the food preference and dietary intake scores. 5. I.Q. scores and academic achievement exerted positive influences on the nutrition attitude and food preference. While the previous studies had reported that the flexibility of a person had an positive effect on the dietary behavior, the result of this study was reversed, that is, the higher the flexibility was, the worse was dietary behavior of the children. The further study is needed with adult subjects.

        This study is to review Yulgok's and Pestalozzi's educational thoughts, to grasp their view-points of home and to find some implications for the importance of home. Their educational ideas are common in various aspects. In Summary, two Pedagogists' educational purposes are; 1. both humanity retrieval, namely A wholeminded personality education 2. importance of home education 3. A harmony and unity Pestalozzi argues harmonious cultivation of three abilities, that is, intellect , morality, and the skills, on the other hand, Yulgok does three ways for the saint, that is, pure mind (居敬), inquiring things rightly(窮理) ,a strenuous effort (力行) 4. Emphasis of ethical education 5. Emphasis of familiarity and self-activity 6. Thought of human equality 7. importance of home discipline In conclusion, the results above suggest humanistic education in domestic life. Only this method should contribute to prevent from non-humanity and industrial anomies.

      • 兒童의 親社會的行爲(Pro-Social Behavior)의 발달에 관한 고찰

        In our modern society, improvement in the quality of human life must begin with changes in, the behavior of individuals, especially, great concern about others, willingness to help and to share with others. The field of prosocial development is a new domain of study, and there are many questions to be solved. Above, all, there are lack of studies on the motivations underlying prosocial actions and interactions among antecedent variables; cognitive abilities, emotional factors. There is no existing theory encompassing all aspects of prosocial behavior, and many ,significant empirical studies are needed. For the futhur study, it must be found that the nature of the early development of prosocial behavior, distinct stages in the prosocial development and parents' rearing attitude.

        The Relationship between Home Environment, Personality Characteristics, Clothing Behavior, and Dietary Behavior of Elementary School Children in Seoul City. This survey was attempted to find out the relationship between home environment, personality characteristics, clothing behavior,. and dietary behavior of children. The investigation was made from September 13 to October 26 in 1982. The subjects were 432 elementary school children at the grade of 5 and 6 in 3 schools located in Seoul city. Home environment, dietary behavior, and clothing behavior were measured by question-aires prepared through the preliminary inquiry and modification. The standardized tests were used for measuring personality characteristics and mothers' rearing attitude of their children. The relations between factors were analyzed by F-test, X^2-test, t-test, and Pear son's coefficient (r), respectively. The results are summarized as follows 1. Personality characteristics of children were considerably affected by home environment, especially by socioeconomic status and mother's rearing attitude of her child. The family composition whether it was nuclear or extended was little associated with personality characteristics as well as clothing and dietary behavior. According to socioeconomic status, Dominance and Sociality were showed highly at the upper class, Emotional Stability and Reflectiveness at the middle class, but the lower class showed the lowest scores in all the personality characteristics examined. And it also appeared that children had better-rounded characteristics when their mothers brought them up under weaker tendency of Rejection, Domination, Overprotection, and Disagreement. As an exception, Impulsiveness of children was an unfavorable characteristics which was related to high tendency of Rejection and Disagreement of mothers. 2. The personality characteristics of children seemed to be an important factor which determined clothing and dietary behaviors. It was regarded as the result of high Emotional Stability and Reflectiveness of the middle class that they had more favorable dietary and clothing behaviors than the other two classes in this investigation. Actually, the children with a high stable nature showed a considerable generosity, patience, and adaptibility in the clothing behaviors such as being satisfied with the clothes which were selected by mothers, taking on the clothes even i f the other persons severely criticized them, and not minding even the clothes of his dislikes and they also had a broad preference for dietary behavior. On the other hand, the children with high Impulsiveness showed many unfavorable aspects in dietary and clothing behaviors. 3. Clothing behaviors were largely related to dietary behaviors. Namely, the children with favorable dietary attitudes also showed favorable clothing behaviors. Though this study was limited to the analysis of the relationship between home environment, personality characteristics, dietary behavior, and clothing behavior as a general perspective, the fact that a process to be a well-developed child was greatly influenced by many factors of home environment was sufficiently recognized. Consequently, further research on the relationship among many factors is required to present some useful information about the best way of rearing our children.

      • 중·고등학교 家政科敎育의 現況과 그 問題點

        The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for effective education system in the 21st Century, by analysing the status and issues of the current Home Economics Education. For analysis purpose, 133 Home Economics teachers of 44 middle and high schools located at Seoul Metropolitan areas are randomly selected, w ho are given questionnaire. The results are as follows: 1) They are satisfied with their occupation, and with being a Home Economics teacher; 2) They believe that the current curriculum should be modified to a great extent in order to meet the up-to-date needs ; 3) Practical training is regarded as the most desirable way of teaching, but, in reality, theoretical and one-way teaching is prevailed ; and 4) The most serious difficulties of Home Economics Education are insufficient education times due to college preparation and lack of decent facilities.
