In this thesis, I analyzed the seventh Musical Curriculum, having its focus onto the singing part of the middle school textbook. In the introduction, I talked about the necessity and the goal of the Musical Curriculum, which have to be diverse not only in the national level but also in the private level, centered for students, kept going with the education concerned and based on the fundamental educational concepts. In the main discourse, we surveyed the summary of the seventh Musical Curriculum to understand the goal and contents of the revised musical curriculum. As one manner for those understandings, I decided to analyze school textbooks which play a leading role for the education, and after finishing such a analysis, I finally found three main facts as follows. First, since our studies about the cracking of voice(its concept, symptoms and the range of the voice) by various references, we found out cracking happens more noticeably to boys than to girls. The symptoms are like this: hoarse voice, unstable tone, uncomfortable high-tone and the about one-octave-lowered range of voice. Second, even though essential songs in the textbook have some diversity, most songs are still chosen one-sidedly. To cover the wider scope, songs in the textbook need to be more diverse for their forms, tempos, keys, beats and performing styles. Third, even if the songs in the textbook are chosen in accordance with the curriculum, the fact that they are out of time makes students fail to be interested in the subject. Students are confused between textbook songs and popular songs, and between foreign songs and Korean traditional songs. Actually, since the songs in the textbook are sung by few, students consider them not being their favorites. Accordingly, we need to choose the songs mirroring times. Also, it is necessary to give a chance to understand mass media by including popular songs history in the musical curriculum. In the conclusion, I suggested the idea as follows. The seventh Musical Curriculum and the Textbook are not for the perfection of the musical education, rather the betterment. Making better system in the actual class plays the role of a stepping-stone not only for the seventh Musical Curriculum, but for all the curriculums which will be made in the future. Plus, diverse musical experiences made by the seventh Musical Curriculum will help us harmonized with music in real life and become more creative. To make it happen, students have to be taught more openly and aesthetically, and we altogether try to make better classes by connecting the middle school curriculum to the elementary school one.

Music has been studied for a long period and it is being used as a media of prenatal education and therapy. Our society had gone through the rapid development of computer and semi-conductor technology, which made our lives totally different from 20th century. With the development of the technology, our lives have changed from Anolog to Digital. The change has influenced in many aspects of human lives, especially the music. Digital music with the developments of recording technology has reduce the producing time, which was the main cost reducing factor. It has also allowed music to be played through personal devices and on internet. This convenience made people to be fund of digital music. Music industry in Korea has turn to digital music and we hardly can find analog music as the digital music industry took over every part of it. Digital music, however, didn’t only give us the advantages. It was once told through mass media that digital music causes negative effects to our body. But, it is not easy for us to go back to Analog ignoring all the advantages that technology has given us. On this paper, I have studied about all the effects that music has not only on human beings but also on all the living things. I have compared the differences of effects that analog music and digital music on human being and plants. As a result, I could find out that the Analog music has more positive effects than the digital music. Of course, now we have high definition digital audio technology so called lossless-music such as MQS or FLAC that made digital music equivalent of analog music. As those high definition digital music files require additional players, however, they cannot be provides to us with convenience that common digital music has. With the developments of the industry and mass media, we, Koreans, use to use the word ‘healing’, which refers to the recovery of our spirit as well as our physical body. Common people who suffers from study and labor find music as a media of ‘healing’ as it is easy to access. Although music has positive effects to our body, music is not the same when it comes to healthy growth and recovery. Good music source can maximize the effects that music gives us. With the increased number of ‘return to the farm and rural’ people, the concern about the method of farming is being increased. If we graft analog music playing on farming, the productivity will surely be increased. Even with the maleficence that digitalization has brought, we can overcome the problem with better developed technology. Finally, the development of modern technology can make the digital music analogized, which means that the technology can realize the motto ‘Back to the Analog’ technically.

The Gregorian Chant receives much recognition as modal music in modern music nowadays in spite of many changes and development the advent of polyphonic music, the supplement of mode "La" and "Do", the importance of“Trias harmonica(=triad)” the establishment of 24 tonality music. Miles Davis who developed "Miles Modes(=Mode Jazz)" had introduced the modes of Gregorian Chant to Jazz music in order to break the limit of complicated harmony structure. However, there would be more ultimate reason for that. That is, because he needed horizontal elements, namely, free, horizontal motion of music so keenly. According to O. Alain, who is french musician, “Music is a place where the vertical elements and horizontal elements are fighting each other constantly. The horizontal elements are the nature of melody which goes up and down freely and successively in small interval if it is possible by the Beeline's Law.” In other words, the vertical elements and the horizontal elements have to be used in music appropriately and harmoniously the word “harmony” has another mean as “accordance” And that's why the modes of Gregorian Chant are Re-rising again these days in spite of today's "The Flood of music" which has so various music genres and the mainstream of complicated harmony music. Hence, musicians have to always take a serious view of Gregorian Chant which is the basis of harmony and recognize how great part of music that the Modal music achieved the part on the extension of tonality. It is necessary to generalize Gregorian Chant in order to more people are blessed with inspiring and positive aspects of it. The impedimental causes and right directions in this point of view are as follows. First, the Gregorian Chant was general music which was made to be suitable to sing for everyone as the liturgical music. But it has misunderstood as the song which are sung only in some abbeys churches or collegium. This is not only the problem of recognition but also absence of opportunity to contact with it. Therefore, institutes or religious groups where teach and learn Gregorian Chant for public have to be established so that more people may get more opportunities of learning Second, Gregorian Chant is treated as past and gone music which is not related to modern music at all. However, it has been found not only in classic works of 18th ~19th century's composers, but also in many Jazz music pieces. Many jazz musicians are teaching jazz on the basis of Gregorian chant modes and revaluating it also. Third, various ways of researches and new educational methods about Gregorian chant must be organized from new point of view. It is said that Music is the 'harmony' between vertical and horizontal. It is natural flow of music history that Jazz music accepted the modes of Gregorian Chant, and the“harmony”between vertical and horizontal is the way to the natural music.

The objectives of this study were to survey and analyze the system and operation of children’s choirs not from a musical viewpoint but from an administrative viewpoint and to draw out strategies for activating children’s choirs as a contribution to the current and future conductors and administrators of children’s choirs. In consideration of the peculiarity and individuality of children’s choirs in Daegu and Gyeongsangdo, we selected the Daegu city Boys and Girls Choir, Daegu Genius Youth Choir, Clear Sound Boys and Girls Choir, Little Harmony Choir, Pilgrim Children’s Choir, Pueri Cantores Choir, and G&M Ulsan Broadcasting Children’s Choirs. First, a questionnaire survey and interviews were conducted with the conductors and administrators of the choirs on the operation of the choirs such as general introduction, main operator and choir system structure, member screening method, member management method, performance planning, advertising and execution, budget and fund raising, annual operation programs, and special programs. After the primary survey, additional surveys were conducted on further details through interviews with the conductors and administrators of the children’s choirs. This study reviewed the theoretical background of choirs, and then analyzed the activities of choirs according to their purpose and the structure of choir systems according to their main operator. In addition, we examined the current state of choir operation through member screening methods and member management methods, and found that planning, advertising and execution were different depending on who the main operator was. What is more, this study analyzed choir operation from an administrative viewpoint, focusing on budget and fund raising, annual operation programs and special programs. Through these analyses and examinations, we identified a number of problems in the administration of children’s choirs in Korea, and proposed strategies for activating the operation of children’s choirs as follows. First, there should be many events such as choir management seminars and camps for exchange among the conductors and administrators of children’s choirs as well as choir teachers. Second, the autonomy of operational rights to budget compilation and personnel management should be guaranteed to the conductors and administrators of children’s choirs. Third, more strict tests for member screening and regulations on children’s choir members should be established and stipulated clearly. Fourth, online marketing and advertising should be promoted through Web media. Fifth, sponsorship should be introduced for raising funds and attracting audience. Sixth, a large variety of education programs should be provided to the members of children’s choirs, and various programs should be developed for community in connection to children’s choirs. Seventh, specialists in the administration of children’s choirs should be raised, who are equipped with basic competences in music and administration. Eighth, it is necessary to authorize the conductors or administrators of children’s choirs to compile specific budget items through institutional devices so that they can participate in budget compilation. Through this study, we expect to make a contribution to activating the operation of children’s choirs in its administrative aspects.

Carl Orff, a German composer and educator, called Carmina Burana of his representative work Welt-Theater, which was a new form of music. This study analyzed the conducting patterns on Carmina Burana, greatly contributing to the choral area as a contemporary music. Along with looking into Carl Orff’s life and his musical works, this study also researches musical compositions, as well as the outline of Carmina Burana. Five out of 25 musical works, which were difficult to interpret and play, were intensively analyzed focusing on their musical composition, lyrical interpretation, and conducting patterns. First, the conducting patterns, depending on the changing tempos, were studied by taking a closer look at the outline and at how the whole beat changes in the musical pieces. Second, according to the lyrics, how the rhythm changes were examined and the changeable tempos and dynamic expression methods of conducting were investigated. Third, in the analysis of conduction patterns, how expression modes of conducting differ were studied through the interpretation of the musical composition. Above all, a conducting model was proposed so that musicians can make use of it in their rehearsals.

The concept of this study is a connection between the subjects ‘Humans and the City’ and ‘Culture and the City’. Before entering into the cultural district related to the culture, I’d like to throw two important questions about it. First, what is the motive that forms the cities? Second, why do humans try to build and activate the cities? Maybe the answer is originated from an instinct for survival and a satisfaction of needs that humans have. According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, the highest stage of human needs is the ‘Self-Actualization’. This ‘Self-Actualization Need’ gathered together and eventually formed the cities which have been evolved and developed by the civilization and other environmental influences. That is, the civilization made the cities develop, and then the development of the cities was linked to the change of the paradigm named ‘Cultural City’. This change again tends to reveal itself with the shape of the competition among the cities. In other words, it is the desire of humans that created the cities, and another desire of humans that tried to extend the cities and meet the needs was the competitiveness and differentiation of the cities. This is the city branding, we call today. It means you meet your need of ‘Self-Acutalization’ through building pleasant, preferable places to live and forming the best cities. The culture & art-related contents such as cultural district or cultural street work as some important factors of the urban regeneration projects. The mechanism that the city branding, the competitiveness of the city, is created in the middle of this process, is usually mentioned at this stage. So, this study will look into the process and relation in which those culture & art-related contents are used in the city branding strategies, through a literature review on the precedent studies. Also, the similarities, problems and improvement will be studied along with the domestic and overseas cases. With regard to the urban regeneration via cultural district, and the city marketing via urban regeneration, the success factors of the cities that successfully implemented the city branding will be reviewed with their similarities and failure factors. I think this will eventually contribute to an effective and creative city branding. First, as a theoretical approach, a literature review of the origin, change, definition, necessity and assignment of the city branding will be conducted with a research on the definition, character and background related to the cultural district. And regarding the city branding via cultural district, the broad sense of meaning of creative city, urban regeneration and cultural city will be mentioned. Current issues of domestic and overseas cultural districts, and the similarities of successful city branding based on cultural factors will be studied along with the causes of the failure cases. Urban regeneration was a form of urban redevelopment, and it focused on physical environment improvement in its early stage. Later, its concept surpassed the previous one, and again its paradigm related to culture and art changed. As a result of this change, an extended concept of the creative city has been established and developed as the core of the city branding. So, this urban regeneration which was originated from the factors of the cultural districts(which also can be considered the contents of culture and art), can be thought to take a strategically important part of the city marketing. The 21st century is the time of information, the time of brand, and the time of limitless competition. Leaving the countries behind, the trend of global competition is changing into that among the cities. The trend among the cities is focusing on the issues related to the city branding such as urban regeneration, urban planning, creative city and urban design. The issues related to the city branding and mentioned in precedent studies, will first include cultural district, urban regeneration, creative city and cultural city. These are the fundamental factors of the city marketing and the concept of the city branding. There can be many strategies to do the city branding, however, based on the contents mentioned in the precedent studies and the similarities from the success cases, its key word is certainly the ‘culture and art’. So, this study focused on the ‘cultural district’ which is a complex, cultural concept as a factor of the city branding. The paradigm of the cities faces a change because of the environmental changes, and the culture and art have been firmly established as the core factor. The meaning of ‘City Marketing’ can be interpreted to that of ‘City Branding’. The brand of the cities should be recognized and the value as the brand should also be highlighted. In the city marketing related to the city branding, the ‘culture and art’ were the common factors among the cities who had succeeded in the urban regeneration, creative city and city branding. Leaving the era of indiscriminate development behind, the paradigm of modern cities has already been changed. As the key word of this study has been described ‘culture and art’, the identity of the city was the culture, and the core factor which was leading us to the creative city with it, was the environment and design. Rather than growing the cities with temporary events or tourism business, the cultural contents of the cities should be maintained and developed with creativity and sustainability. Continuous development of cultural contents or appointment of specialized places makes the creative cities, and has become the essential factors of the city branding. The city branding needs something more than creativity and culture. Maybe the attendance of the citizens and governance would be that something. The branding of specialized and differentiated cities can be made when such factors get blended organizationally and the places like cultural districts or cultural streets where the citizens fully enjoy their lives through the effective use of cultural spots, get formed. This successful city branding eventually meets the highest need of a human named ‘Self-Actualization’, and by extension, it becomes the competitiveness of the city and the country.
