Effect of Cathepsin D Treatment on ATPase Activity of Rabbit Myofibril

The effect of cathepsin D and pepsin treatment on rabbit myofibril was studied by measur¬ing the amount of proteolytic products and Mg-enhanced ATPase activity. When myofibril was treated with cathepsin D at 3℃ and pH 5.0 or 5.5, a little but detectable amount of nonprotein nitrogenous compounds was released. However, there was no change in ATPase activity of myofibril, though treated with cathepsin D of higher units than assumed to be in muscle. When myofibril was treated with pepsin under the same condition as used above, there was an increase in KCI-concentration dependence of ATPase activity followed by a decrease in the maximal value of ATPase activity. From the present results, it was concluded that cathepsin D might not take a main role on the post-mortem degradation ofmyofibtil.
Frequency Response of an Asymmetric Pneumatic Cylinder Controlled by a Four-Way Valve

This paper describes the effect of asymmetricity of a pneumatic cylinder on the frequency response of a valve-controlled cylinder system. Five kinds of asymmetric cylinders, which have different left-hand-side effective areas of the pistons, were made and used in the experiment. The behaviors of the system were theoretically analysed using Runge Kutta Gill method. Fre¬quency response was obtained from the Fourier analyses of the wave forms. Theoretical results agreed fairly well with experimental ones. The effect of the ratio of the left-hand-side effective area of the piston to the right-hand-side one on the responses, resonances and the biases of spool mean position etc., are described.
Suppressive Effect of Bacillius subtilus Isolated from Composts to Phytotoxic Microorganisms

Suppressive effect of ten composts to phytotoxic fungi, Fusarium oxysporum, was investigated in vitro on agar plate test. Four composts among them showed a clear inhibitory zones to the growth of the fungi. Bacteria which were associated with the effect were isolated and identified as Bacil¬lus subtilis. The culture broth of this bacteria also represented an inhibitory zone in in vitro test. Suppressive ness of the broth was further investigated using other phytotoxic fungi and bacteria in vivo tests and a broader suppressive spectrum was obtained.
3, 6´ ―および 3,8´ ―ジベンゾアントロニルの合成とそれらのアルカリ縮合

The Ullmann reaction of an equirnolar mixture of 3-iodobenzanthrone and 6-chlorobenzanthrone gave a new unsymmetrical compound, 3,6'-dibenzanthronyl (8) (mp 344-346°C) in 33% yield. 3, 8'-Dibenzanthronyl (9) (rnp 338~340°C) was obtained from 3-iodo and 8-chlorobenzanthrone in 50% yield by the same procedure. Isoviolanthrone B (4) and new violanthrone-analogue (10) (violanthrone C) were obtained in quantitative yield by alkali condensation of (8) and (9), respectively. Hydrocarbon (12) (violanthrene C) was obtained by the reduction of (10) with zinc dust in the mixed flux of zinc chloride and sodium chloride in 66% yield, and also isoviolanthrene (11) from (4) by the same procedure in 77% yield. The structure of (8), (9), (11) and (12) were confirmed by IR, mass spectra and elemental analysis.
