      • Designing an Electronic Course and Its Impact on Developing University Students' Computational Thinking Skills

Al-Zahrani, Majed bin Maili bin Mohammad International Journal of Computer ScienceNetwork S 2022 International journal of computer science and netw Vol.22 No.1

The study investigated the effects of differences in some electronic course designs on university students' Computational Thinking Skills (CTS). Towards this end, the researcher adopted the experimental research design of a quasi-experimental of two experimental groups. The first group was taught an e-course designed in a sequential pattern, and the other group's course was designed according to the holistic model. A CTSs test was prepared to collect the relevant data, and the data were analyzed statistically using these tests- Pearson correlation Mann Whitney and Alpha Cronbach. Results revealed statistically-significant differences at the level α=0.05 between the mean scores of the first and second experimental groups in favor of the latter in the CTS test. The findings gave ground to put forward some salient recommendations, including the need to expand computational thinking in universities' educational process. It also recommends urging faculty members to enhance e-courses in the educational process and provide technical support to students and faculty members.

Used lubricating oil regeneration by various solvent extraction techniques

SAEED M. AL ZAHRANI,Meilana Dharma Putra 한국공업화학회 2013 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.19 No.2

The used lubricating oil regeneration using extraction technique has been widely known as one of the cheapest and most competent processes. The best performance of solvent was shown by R-11 as the lowest percent oil losses, followed by CFC-113, MEK, 1-butanol, and 2-propanol. This performance sequence could be also evaluated by method of solubility parameter difference (Es) using Hildebrand and Peng–Robinson EoS approaches. The effectiveness of extraction parameters was also studied. The percent oil losses decreased with the extraction temperature. The values of optimum ratio of solvent to oil obtained by the Es method gave reasonable results compared to the experimental method.

Synthesis, Dynamics of Solvatochromism and pH-sensory of Novel Push-π-pull Phenothiazine-quinoline Fluorophore Toward Turn-on Fluorescent and Colorimetric Test Strips

        Fatimah A. M. Al-Zahrani 한국섬유공학회 2022 Fibers and polymers Vol.23 No.5

Novel donor-central-π-bridge-acceptor (E)-1-ethyl-2-((10-hexyl-10H-phenothiazin-3-yl)methylene)-2,4a-dihydroquinolin-1-ium (PTZ-Q) fluorophore with remarkable solvatochromism, high fluorescence and pH-sensory properties was designedand synthesized in good yield. PTZ-Q sensor was fully characterized utilizing various spectroscopic techniques, includinginfrared (FTIR), 1H/13C nuclear magnetic resonance, and mass spectroscopic methods. UV-Vis absorption spectra of theprepared donor-acceptor PTZ-Q were explored in different solvents of varying polarities to show positive solvatochromismrelated to intramolecular charge transfer. Additionally, the fluorescence spectra of PTZ-Q displayed strongly solventdependentwavelength and band intensity. Stokes’ shifts were found to increase upon increasing the polarities of solvents upto 3984 cm-1 for the highest polar solvents. Linear energy-solvation correlation was employed to examine solvent-dependentStokes’ shift. Quantum yields (ф) of PTZ-Q were determined. The pH-dependent absorption and emission spectra indimethylformamide were also explored. The UV-Vis absorption intensity was monitored at 522 nm, while the emissionintensity was detected at 603 nm in DMF. The pH sensing mechanism was found to depend on proton abstraction to the PTZQfluorophore to result in colorimetric and fluorescent spectral changes associated with a colorimetric shift from yellow topink, red and purple. The synthesized PTZ-Q probe was utilized to fabricate colorimetric and fluorescent test strips with theability to detect pH changes in aqueous media, which was verified with CIE Lab color coordinates.

Analysis of activated colloidal crud in advanced and modular reactor under pump coastdown with kinetic corrosion

        Mehboob Khurram,Al-Zahrani Yahya A. 한국원자력학회 2022 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.54 No.12

The analysis of rapid flow transients in Reactor Coolant Pumps (RCP) is essential for a reactor safety study. An accurate and precise analysis of the RCP coastdown is necessary for the reactor design. The coastdown of RCP affects the coolant temperature and the colloidal crud in the primary coolant. A realistic and kinetic model has been used to investigate the behavior of activated colloidal crud in the primary coolant and steam generator that solves the pump speed analytically. The analytic solution of the non-dimensional flow rate has been determined by the energy ratio b. The kinetic energy of the coolant fluid and the kinetic energy stored in the rotating parts of a pump are two essential parameters in the form of b. Under normal operation, the pump's speed and moment of inertia are constant. However, in a coastdown situation, kinetic damping in the interval has been implemented. A dynamic model ACCP-SMART has been developed for System Integrated Modular and Advanced Reactor (SMART) to investigate the corrosion due to activated colloidal crud. The Fickian diffusion model has been implemented as the reference corrosion model for the constituent component of the primary loop of the SMART reactor. The activated colloidal crud activity in the primary coolant and steam generator of the SMART reactor has been studied for different equilibrium corrosion rates, linear increase in corrosion rate, and dynamic RCP coastdown situation energy ratio b. The coolant specific activity of SMART reactor equilibrium corrosion (4.0 mg s1 ) has been found 9.63 103 mCi cm3 , 3.53 103 mC cm3 , 2.39 102 mC cm3 , 8.10 103 mC cm3 , 6.77 103 mC cm3 , 4.95 104 mC cm3 , 1.19 103 mC cm3 , and 7.87 104 mC cm3 for 24Na, 54Mn, 56Mn, 59Fe, 58Co, 60Co, 99Mo, and 51Cr which are 14.95%, 5.48%, 37.08%, 12.57%, 10.51%, 0.77%, 18.50%, and 0.12% respectively. For linear and exponential coastdown with a constant corrosion rate, the total coolant and steam generator activity approaches a higher saturation value than the normal values. The coolant and steam generator activity changes considerably with kinetic corrosion rate, equilibrium corrosion, growth of corrosion rate (DC/Dt), and RCP coastdown situations. The effect of the RCP coastdown on the specific activity of the steam generators is smeared by linearly rising corrosion rates, equilibrium corrosion, and rapid coasting down of the RCP. However, the time taken to reach the saturation activity is also influenced by the slope of corrosion rate, coastdown situation, equilibrium corrosion rate, and energy ratio b.

        An extended Lindley distribution

        Hassan S. Bakouch,Bander M. Al-Zahrani,Ali A. Al-Shomrani,Vitor A.A. Marchi,Francisco Louzada 한국통계학회 2012 Journal of the Korean Statistical Society Vol.41 No.1

In this paper we introduce an extension of the Lindley distribution which offers a more flexible model for lifetime data. Several statistical properties of the distribution are explored, such as the density, (reversed) failure rate, (reversed) mean residual lifetime, moments, order statistics, Bonferroni and Lorenz curves. Estimation using the maximum likelihood and inference of a random sample from the distribution are investigated. A real data application illustrates the performance of the distribution.
