• Sustainable Management of a Family Business

        Fl?vio de S?o Pedro Filho 한국문화관광학회 2010 문화관광연구 Vol.12 No.2

The indigenous integration to the Brazilian civilization continues a critical paradox, with postponed solutions, while victims continue to be the excluded ones. Reduced to the condition of incapable, the Brazilian aboriginal is considered part of the “Estatuto do ?ndio” (Indian Statute), a generated normative instrument at the time of the military dictatorship that devastated Brazil. This picture tries to unveil the reality of the Paiter Suru? people, as reference, in an inquiry directed toward their social inclusion through the indigenous ecotourism. The focus of this study stems from a multidisciplinary approach, involving both Ethodevelopment and Ecodevelopment theories, applying a study of case type of research. The enterprise is aimed to take advantage of the indigenous immaterial patrimony, a scenic beauty of their lands, coupled with managerial techniques in new modeled Brazil

The Principle of Facticity: Outline for a Theory of Evidence in Arbitration

Octa՛,vio Fragata Martins de Barros 한국중재학회 2013 중재연구 Vol.23 No.4

International Arbitration has distinguished itself as a method for dispute resolution that pleases both common and civil law practitioners. It, however, is not free of criticism, especially when fact-finding and evidentiary issues are at play. Perhaps because fact-finding is very closely linked to the culture in which they lie, perhaps because of the lack of a clear evidentiary rules governing international arbitration, a theory of evidence in international arbitration is still far fetched. Through the analysis of the distinctions between dispute resolution systems and the search for truth paradigm, this paper aims to develop and present an outline for the development of a theory of evidence in international arbitration.

      • A novel method for the vibration optimisation of structures subjected to dynamic loading

        Munk, David J.,Vio, Gareth A.,Steven, Grant P. Techno-Press 2017 Advances in aircraft and spacecraft science Vol.4 No.2

The optimum design of structures with frequency constraints is of great importance in the aeronautical industry. In order to avoid severe vibration, it is necessary to shift the fundamental frequency of the structure away from the frequency range of the dynamic loading. This paper develops a novel topology optimisation method for optimising the fundamental frequencies of structures. The finite element dynamic eigenvalue problem is solved to derive the sensitivity function used for the optimisation criteria. An alternative material interpolation scheme is developed and applied to the optimisation problem. A novel level-set criteria and updating routine for the weighting factors is presented to determine the optimal topology. The optimisation algorithm is applied to a simple two-dimensional plane stress plate to verify the method. Optimisation for maximising a chosen frequency and maximising the gap between two frequencies are presented. This has the application of stiffness maximisation and flutter suppression. The results of the optimisation algorithm are compared with the state of the art in frequency topology optimisation. Test cases have shown that the algorithm produces similar topologies to the state of the art, verifying that the novel technique is suitable for frequency optimisation.

      • HAVE YOU ENJOYED A MEAL SERVED BY A ROBOT? - CONSUMERS' RESISTANCE TO THE USE OF ROBOTICS AND SERVICE AUTOMATION IN RESTAURANTS

        Joanna Santiago,Fl?vio Tiago,Teresa Borges-Tiago 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2023 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2023 No.07

Technological breakthroughs, combined with the demographic challenges of an aging population and the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, spur new business opportunities in the service robot industry. From a management perspective, these technologies are positively evaluated in terms of increasing productivity, new business opportunities, and financial benefits (Belanche et al., 2020). However, although automation and robotics have already gained attention in the tourism and hospitality industry, research on their use in restaurants and the customer's attitude toward these new service solutions is still limited (Berezina et al., 2019; Ivanov et al., 2019; Kuo et al., 2017).

Verruciform xanthoma in the hard palate: a case report and literature review

        Alexandre Simõ,es Garcia,Otá,vio Pagin,Paulo Sé,rgio da Silva Santos,Denise Tostes Oliveira 대한구강악안면외과학회 2016 대한구강악안면외과학회지 Vol.42 No.6

Oral verruciform xanthoma (OVX) is an uncommon lesion that appears on the oral mucosa. The aim of this paper was to discuss the probable etiopathogenesis of OVX in the hard palate, reinforcing the importance of including this lesion in the differential diagnosis of verrucous lesions. A 43-yearold male smoker presented with a painless lesion with a verrucous surface and erythematous spots on the hard palate. Excisional biopsy revealed oral mucosa consisting of hyperkeratosis, acanthosis, and elongated rete pegs. Subjacent connective tissue showed numerous foam cells with clear cytoplasm and pyknotic nucleus, negative on periodic acid-Schiff staining. Immunohistochemical analysis revealed foam cells positive for anti-CD68 antibody, while anti-KI-67 antibody was restricted to the basal layer of the oral epithelium. A final diagnosis of OVX was established. The patient showed no signs of recurrence after seven months of follow-up. Physical trauma and smoking habits can be directly related to the etiology of verruciform xanthoma because the lesion is chronic and inflammatory with slow growth, and sites if high trauma are more often affected by such a lesion. The hard palate is the second most commonly affected site, and local trauma caused by smoking can be a cause of this type of lesion.

Phytochemical Characterization, Antimicrobial Activity, and Antioxidant Potential of Equisetum hyemale L. (Equisetaceae) Extracts

        Geisiany M. de Queiroz,Fla´vio A.S. Politi,Edvaˆnio R. Rodrigues,Tatiana M. Souza-Moreira,Raquel R.D. Moreira,Ca´ssia R.P. Cardoso,Lourdes C. Santos,Rosemeire C.L.R. Pietro 한국식품영양과학회 2015 Journal of medicinal food Vol.18 No.7

Equisetum hyemale species is considered a medicinal plant used in the form of infusions to combat infectious or inflammation diseases and also diuretic effects, presenting several compounds related to these actions. In previous studies different species of Equisetum showed several phenolic compounds. The objective of this study was, for the first time, based on phytochemistry analysis to evaluate the antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. The 70% ethanolic and methanolic extracts of E. hyemale were characterized by spectrophotometric and high-performance liquid chromatography with pulsed amperometric detector analyses, as well as its antioxidant potential based on the scavenger activity of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH). In addition was verified the antimicrobial activity by broth microdilution technique against bacteria and fungi. The extracts showed phytochemical similarity, which demonstrated the presence of phenolic compounds, the scavenging activity for free radicals was about 30% and was observed better antifungal activity against dermatophyte fungi, with minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum fungicidal concentration of 0.62 mg/mL to Trichophyton rubrum and Microsporum canis. The extracts exhibits great potential to therapeutic applications or product development, since both possess antifungal activity and antioxidant action associated with little difference in their phytochemical composition.

In situ screening of 3-arylcoumarin derivatives reveals new inhibitors of mast cell degranulation

Marcela de Souza Santos,Maria Perpe´tua Freire de Morais Del Lama,Laila Aparecida Deliberto,Fla´vio da Silva Emery,Moˆnica Tallarico Pupo,Rose Mary Zumstein Georgetto Naal 대한약학회 2013 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.36 No.6

Due to the severity and high prevalence ofallergic diseases, there is growing interest in the developmentof inhibitors of such conditions. 3-Arylcoumarinderivatives emerge as promising compounds for thetreatment of allergic disorders, in particular due to theirclose structural similarity to flavonoids, whose anti-allergicactivity has been extensively reported. The aim of this workwas to perform a screening of a set of 3-arylcoumarins aspotential inhibitors of mast cell degranulation, a key eventfor the development of allergic reactions. For that purpose, itwas utilized a biosensor model based on mast cells, whosein vitro assay allows for such screening, in a high throughputfashion, and also permits bringing to attention some coumarinstructural features that are important for their biologicalactivity. The mast cell-based biosensor was shown todiscriminate, with high sensitivity and reproducibility, between coumarins that did not affect or caused differentdegrees of inhibition of degranulation. Among activecoumarins, some substituents could be accounted for theirinhibitory activity, such as the hydroxylation of positions 6and 20 of 3-phenylcoumarins, in addition to catechol, aminoand thiophene moieties. In summary, 3-arylcoumarins couldbe suggested as potential candidates for the developmentof new anti-allergic drugs.

        Jhulki, Lalmohan,Dutta, Parul,Santra, Manas Kumar,Cardoso, Marlon H.,Oshiro, Karen G. N.,Franco, Octá,vio L.,Bertolasi, Valerio,Isab, Anvarhusein A.,Bielawski, Christopher W.,Dinda, Joydev The Royal Society of Chemistry 2018 NEW JOURNAL OF CHEMISTRY Vol.42 No.16

The synthesis, structures and anticancer studies of a series of precious metal complexes supported by 1-methyl-2-(phenyl)imidazo[1,5-a]pyridine-2-ylidene (1) have been highlighted. The Ag(i) (2), Au(i) (3) and Au(iii) (4) complexes were prepared using standard methods and characterized by a range of techniques, including NMR spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography and elemental analyses. The in vitro cytotoxicity activities displayed by 2-4 were explored against human colon adenocarcinoma (HCT116), lung cancer (A549) and breast cancer (MCF7) cell lines. A series of assays showed that all of the complexes exhibited significant growth inhibition in the aforementioned cell lines. Inspection of the data collected revealed that the Au(i) and Ag(i) complexes were more potent than their Au(iii) congener, a trend that was found to be consistent with molecular docking studies that utilized BCL-2 as a model as this protein regulates cell death through apoptosis.
