Critical Success Factors of Project Management : The Case of Construction Related Projects in Vietnam

Viet Quoc PHAM,Bao Khac Quoc NGUYEN,Binh Van TU,Huong Thi Thanh PHAM,Thanh Quoc LE 한국유통과학회 2019 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.6 No.2

The study aims to contribute to the improvement of project management in Vietnam. It focuses on developing new critical success factors (CSFs) which can be used to assess the success of project management in the country. This is a promising issue considering the rapid changes occurring within the business environment. The reason is because CSFs carry great consequences on project management issues, particularly in the context of Vietnam, which is currently experiencing many big scale projects involving both local and foreign investors. Two applications are utilised. One is to adapt the business model of Belassi and Tukel (1996) to observe the transitional and emerging economy of Vietnam. The other is to examine the data collected from a survey to examine the new CSFs which can then be used to assess the success of its projects and project management in Vietnam. The research results showed some remarkable differences between CSFs of Vietnam and foreign countries in both number of success factors and its impact levels which should be paid attention by foreign project managers/owners when doing investment and project management in Vietnam. The outcome generated can be useful to project owners/managers as well as policy makers in Vietnam’s business environment.

Success Factors Affecting Internationalization Process of Large Vietnamese Companies: A Conceptual Framework

Viet Quoc PHAM,Bao Khac Quoc NGUYEN,Thanh Quoc LE 한국유통과학회 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.11

Internationalization of multinational companies in the globalized context is a popular topic in the academic world and it is also a strong concern of CEO/managers. However, this topic has not been well discussed in the academic community in Vietnam that can be contextualized in the typical transition economy. This paper is designed to explore critical success factors (CSF) of internationalization of large Vietnamese companies that have contributed major revenue from the international market. Through interviews with CEO/managers of successful companies geared toward world markets, the CSFs of internationalization have been identified and categorized into groups in which each CSF has interaction with each other, and together have combined impacts on the success of internationalization. The research results provide a conceptual framework to analyze factors affecting internationalization of large Vietnamese companies. Thank to this conceptual framework, further exploratory and/or confirmatory research can be developed to locate more success factors of internationalization. In addition, some particularly critical factors of internationalization success of Vietnamese companies are found to be useful to both CEO/ managers and policymakers. CEO/managers can benefit from the research results by concentrate their limited efforts/resources in managing these CSFs, and policymaker may design CSF-based policies to boost the internationalization of domestic companies.

How Does Corporate Social Responsibility Affect Innovative Work Behaviour?

Viet Quoc Cao(Viet Quoc Cao ) People&Global Business Association 2023 Global Business and Finance Review Vol.28 No.4

Purpose: This research examines the effect of perceived corporate social responsibility on the employee-company relationship (organisational trust, organisational identification) and employees' future well-being and participation in innovative work practices. Design/methodology/approach: This study used a quantitative research approach by PLS-SEM analysis with a sample size of 400. The respondents are employees working for four distinct textile garment manufacturing enterprises in Vietnam. Findings: Our study found that corporate social responsibility directly impacts organisational trust, identification, well-being, and innovative work practices, and innovative work behaviours are directly related to organisational trust, employee well-being, and identification. Research limitations/implications: The study focuses on workers who have a basic understanding of corporate social responsibility. Consequently, the scope of research in diverse industries throughout the country's regions and cities must be expanded. Given the constraints, future studies should be broadened and conducted in greater detail. Each profession should concentrate its efforts on a broader range of survey subjects, such as office workers, employees, and consumers. Originality/value: Employee well-being is linked to innovative work behaviour, and the stronger the company's identity, the more likely people will be to be creative at work. The author found that people who work for a company that has a good sense of itself are more likely to be creative at work. The study shows that when employees are happy, they are more likely to work in new and innovative ways.

      • Improving Control Performance of a Container Crane Using Adaptive Friction Compensation

Quoc Chi Nguyen,Hoai Quoc Le,Keum-Shik Hong 제어로봇시스템학회 2014 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2014 No.10

This paper investigates an adaptive control scheme for container cranes that transport containers between a container ship and trucks. Three unknown parameters (the mechanical friction between the trolley and the guide rails, the mass per unit length of the rope, and the payload mass) are estimated. Since the rope of the crane is flexible, an axially moving string equation is introduced to model the rope dynamics. The Lyapunov method is used to assure the uniform stability of the closed loop system. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

Molecular and Clinicopathological Features of Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors in Vietnamese Patients

Quoc Dat Ngo,Quoc Thang Pham,Dang Anh Thu Phan,Anh Vu Hoang,Thi Ngoc Ha Hua,Sao Trung Nguyen 대한병리학회 2019 Journal of Pathology and Translational Medicine Vol.53 No.6

Background: Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most frequent mesenchymal neoplasms of the gastrointestinal tract. Management of GIST patients is currently based on clinicopathological features and associated genetic changes. However, the detailed characteristics and molecular genetic features of GISTs have not yet been described in the Vietnamese population. Methods: We first identified 155 patients with primary GIST who underwent surgery with primary curative intent between 2011 and 2014 at University Medical Center at Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. We evaluated the clinicopathological features and immunohistochemical reactivity to p53 and Ki-67 in these patients. Additionally, KIT genotyping was performed in 100 cases. Results: The largest proportion of GISTs was classified as high-risk (43.2%). Of the 155 GISTs, 52 (33.5%) were positive for Ki-67, and 58 (37.4%) were positive for p53. The expression of Ki-67 and p53 were correlated with mitotic rate, tumor size, risk assessment, and tumor stage. Out of 100 GIST cases, KIT mutation was found in 68%, of which 62 (91.2%) were found in exon 11, two (2.9%) in exon 9, and four (5.8%) in exon 17. No mutation in exon 13 was identified. Additionally, KIT mutations did not correlate with any clinicopathological features. Conclusions: The expression of Ki-67 and p53 were associated with high-risk tumors. Mutations in exon 11 were the most commonly found, followed by exon 17 and exon 9. Additionally, KIT mutation status was not correlated with any recognized clinicopathological features.

The effects of foundation size on the seismic performance of buildings considering the soil-foundation-structure interaction

        Quoc Van Nguyen,Behzad Fatahi,Aslan S. Hokmabadi 국제구조공학회 2016 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.58 No.6

Shallow footings are one of the most common types of foundations used to support mid-rise buildings in high risk seismic zones. Recent findings have revealed that the dynamic interaction between the soil, foundation, and the superstructure can influence the seismic response of the building during earthquakes. Accordingly, the properties of a foundation can alter the dynamic characteristics (natural frequency and damping) of the soil-foundation-structure system. In this paper the influence that shallow foundations have on the seismic response of a mid-rise moment resisting building is investigated. For this purpose, a fifteen storey moment resisting frame sitting on shallow footings with different sizes was simulated numerically using ABAQUS software. By adopting a direct calculation method, the numerical model can perform a fully nonlinear time history dynamic analysis to realistically simulate the dynamic behaviour of soil, foundation, and structure under seismic excitations. This three-dimensional numerical model accounts for the nonlinear behaviour of the soil medium and structural elements. Infinite boundary conditions were assigned to the numerical model to simulate free field boundaries, and appropriate contact elements capable of modelling sliding and separation between the foundation and soil elements are also considered. The influence of foundation size on the natural frequency of the system and structural response spectrum was also studied. The numerical results for cases of soil-foundation-structure systems with different sized foundations and fixed base conditions (excluding soil-foundation-structure interaction) in terms of lateral deformations, inter-storey drifts, rocking, and shear force distribution of the structure were then compared. Due to natural period lengthening, there was a significant reduction in the base shears when the size of the foundation was reduced. It was concluded that the size of a shallow foundation influences the dynamic characteristics and the seismic response of the building due to interaction between the soil, foundation, and structure, and therefore design engineer should carefully consider these parameters in order to ensure a safe and cost effective seismic design.
