The built environment can be a voracious consumer of the earth’s natural resources, as well as aproducer of greenhouse gasses. At a time when the call for environmental sustainability is becoming increasingly urgent, merely modifying existing methods of production will be insufficient to support a growing global population with escalating aspirations and expanding per capita ecological footprints. The purpose of this research is to rethink fundamental assumptions of current building processes in order to gravitate toward a sustainable level of resource use. Large-scale 3D printing (additive manufacturing) offers this possibility because, among other things, it can accurately situate material volumes in such a way that reduces consumption of the earth’s resources. That said, the large-scale 3D printing material of choice is currently concrete bound with Portland cement-a material that contributes up to 5-8% of man-made carbon dioxide emissions worldwide. Our research team has taken up the challenge to harvest clays, chemically modify them, and print structures in-situ, offering a greatly reduced environmental impact compared to concrete.

Understanding the impact of the Weather on Human Mobility via LTE Access Traces in Seoul Districts
Zofia Marciniak,Sumin Han,Dongman Lee 한국HCI학회 2021 한국HCI학회 학술대회 Vol.2021 No.1
In the urban area, there are many activity choices such as shopping or staying home. One of the main factors which affects people’s choices is the weather. In this study, the influence of weather conditions on human activity in the urban area is explored. We trace the change in the intensity of the mobile LTE access usage under different weather conditions. We find that pressure and rain are the most impactful conditions, while most affected groups are people in their 20’s and older. People in their 30’s seem to be the least affected and follow their usual activity pattern. Our result can provide insights for spot recommendation, traffic prediction, and sales prediction.
Where is the limit of Mis-selling?
Zofia Maria Mazur 국제금융소비자학회 2021 The International Review of Financial Consumers(IR Vol.6 No.1
Financial services are complex and sometimes can be difficult for even the most knowledgeable investors to understand, thus consumers are particularly susceptible to purchase the improper products which are often unethically offered by professionals. Consequently, should be avoided the situation in which professionals benefit from their inappropriate business behaviors. The serious cases of unfair conducts of financial market players have introduced and developed, for the first time in the United Kingdom, a new notion - Mis-selling, consisting of marketing and sales of financial, insurance, pension products and services to customers that do not meet their needs and financial profile. Gradually, such issue and the related legal regime was expanded and further developed in other countries. Mis-selling happens for several reasons, refers to every adult, assumes many forms, and as we could see, the financial crisis has exposed the failure of financial market regulators to identify and monitor systemic risk. The purposes of the paper are therefore to illustrate some of the professional misbehaviors, to present and compare different regulations on mis-selling and enforcement framework in Italy and in Poland and to assess their effectiveness.
3D Printing Slicer for Computational Texture Generation
Zofia Marciniak,Kongpyung Moon,Andrea Bianchi 한국HCI학회 2023 한국HCI학회 학술대회 Vol.2023 No.2
This paper introduces a novel workflow of 3D printing various finish patterns of an object without CAD modelling an actual surface texture but computationally generating a g-code for 3D printing with an embedded texture. It allows designers to easily convert a simple 3D surface to a textured surface they desire. In this paper, we describe how our slicer generates texture patterns from a given geometry and 3D print 40 samples of textured surfaces to explore the texture design spectrum of our slicer. We also present three applications to demonstrate the feasibility of our texture slicer.
