      • Document Similarity Search Algorithm Based On Hierarchy Model

        Searching for similar documents from huge amounts of documents is an important and time consuming problem. Although the numerous precise models have been developed for the task, the traditional search algorithms are unable to meet the needs of users for quick search. Herein, a new document similarity calculation and search method with high efficiency is proposed. The calculation of the similarity is based on the total probability model and the efficient search is achieved via level n nodes and paths of citation graph. A special approach from the branch and bound limits the search scope and provide decision algorithm. With the increase in the number of documents, the efficiency of the proposed algorithm is dramatically promoted.

        Evaluation of DPWM schemes for Si/SiC three-level hybrid active NPC inverters

        The hybrid utilization of SiC and Si devices can achieve a trade-of between the efficiency and cost of three-level active neutral-point-clamped (3L-ANPC) inverters. This paper studies a three-phase 2-SiC 3L-hybrid ANPC (3L-HANPC) inverter with different discontinuous pulse width modulation (DPWM) schemes. The principles of these DPWM schemes are analyzed in detail, and carrier-based algorithm for two of the DPWM schemes are given. Finally, a 6 kW three-phase 2-SiC 3L-HANPC inverter prototype was built to compare these two modulation schemes. Experimental results show that DPWM1 with its peak voltage-clamped can achieve a higher efficiency than DPWM2 with its zero-crossing clamped. However, the DPWM2 scheme has a lower THD than the DPWM1 scheme. Since the THD improvement contributed by the DPWM2 scheme is relatively small, the DPWM1 scheme is the preferred DPWM scheme.

        The durability and rehabilitation technologies of concrete sewerage pipes: A state-of-the-art review

        This paper reviews the literature available on the subject of the durability of concrete sewer pipes and the corresponding rehabilitation technologies. An introduction related to the importance of the sewer system in urban life and its durability issues was first discussed as most people did not recognise the scale and complexity of the underground sewer system. Then the recent development of alternative binder materials or filler materials to improve the acid resistance of concrete was specified. For instance, the effects of alternative binders on the hydration products and the mechanism of biogenic corrosion were discussed in detail. The paper ends with the current rehabilitation technologies and the structural performance of rehabilitated sewer pipes. Also, some suggestions associated with future research were made.

        Numerical simulation of masonry shear panels with distinct element approach

        Masonry is not a simple material, the influence of mortar joints as a plane of weakness is a significant feature and this makes the numerical modelling of masonry very difficult especially when dynamic (seismic) analysis is involved. In order to develop a simple numerical model for masonry under earthquake load, an analytical model based on Distinct Element Method (DEM) is being developed. At the first stage, the model is applied to simulate the in-plane shear behaviour of an unreinforced masonry wall with and without opening where the testing results are available for comparison. In DEM, a solid is represented as an assembly of discrete blocks. Joints are modelled as interface between distinct bodies. It is a dynamic process and specially designed to model the behaviour of discontinuities. The numerical solutions obtained from the distinct element analysis are validated by comparing the results with those obtained from existing experiments and finite element modelling.

        Stimulated Bronchial Epithelial Cells Release Bioactive Lysophosphatidylcholine 16:0, 18:0, and 18:1

        Purpose: In human subjects and animal models with acute and chronic lung injury, the bioactive lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC) is elevated in lung lining fluids. The increased LPC can promote an inflammatory microenvironment resulting in lung injury. Furthermore, pathological lung conditions are associated with upregulated phospholipase A2 (PLA2), the predominant enzyme producing LPC in tissues by hydrolysis of phosphatidylcholine. However, the lung cell populations responsible for increases of LPC have yet to be systematically characterized. The goal was to investigate the LPC generation by bronchial epithelial cells in response to pathological mediators and determine the major LPC species produced. Methods: Primary human bronchial epithelial cells (NHBE) were challenged by vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) for 1 or 6 hours, and condition medium and cells collected for quantification of predominant LPC species by high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS-MS). The cells were analyzed by quantitative reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) for PLA2. The direct effects of LPC in inducing inflammatory activities on NHBE were assessed by transepithelial resistance as well as expression of interleukin-8 (IL-8) and matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1). Results: VEGF stimulation of NHBE for 1 or 6 hours, significantly increased concentrations of LPC16:0, LPC18:0, and LPC18:1 in condition medium compared to control. The sPLA2-selective inhibitor (oleyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine) inhibited the VEGF-induced release of LPC16:0 and LPC18:1 and PLA2 activity. In contrast, NHBE stimulated with TNF did not induce LPC release. VEGF did not increase mRNA of PLA2 subtypes sPLA2-X, sPLA2-XIIa, cPLA2-IVa, and iPLA2-VI. Exogenous LPC treatment increased expression of IL-8 and MMP-1, and reduced the transepithelial resistance in NHBE. Conclusions: Our findings indicate that VEGF-stimulated bronchial epithelial cells are a key source of extracellular LPCs, which can function as an autocrine mediator with potential to induce airway epithelial inflammatory injury.

        A Heuristic-Based Population Synthesis Method for Micro-Simulation in Transportation

        Population synthesis is extensively required by a number of micro-simulation models in transportation. A heuristic-based population synthesis method called Pop-H was proposed to overcome the following two limitations that received less attention. The first limitation is that one target marginal distribution can be well met by various sets of household weights that can be used to generate different sets of population and thus it is a problem that which set of household weights is the real one. Secondly, the population synthesis is commonly viewed as an optimization problem, and minimizing the Mean Absolute Percentage Error of control variables is generally used as the objective function. The Standard Deviation of control variables is also crucial in some cases, which, however receives scant attention. In response to these two limitations, the heuristic-based population synthesis method works in the following way: the Pop-H algorithm starts with the initial set of household weights derived from a sample data and calculates the final set of household weights by iteratively adjusting the initial set in a defined way with the objective function taking into account both Mean Absolute Percentage Error and Standard Deviation of control variables. Finally, the medium-sized city of Baoding, China was used as the case study. The sensitivity test was firstly done to examine four key parameters of the Pop-H algorithm, and then the algorithm was applied to create the population for the whole city.

        Studies on PEGylated Gold Nanoparticles Loaded with 5-Hydroxydecanoate for Chemo-Photothermal Therapy of Human Lung Adenocarcinomas In Vitro

        Gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) have promising applications in the fields of drug delivery and photothermal therapy. 5-hydroxydecanoate (5-HD) is a kind of highly selective mitochondrial ATP sensitive potassium (mitoKATP) channel blocker. In this research, firstly, 5-HD was studied whether it could induce human lung adenocarcinomas (A549) cells apoptosis; secondly, PEGylated gold nanoparticles loaded with 5-HD (Au NPs-PEG-5-HD) were prepared to develop a new chemotherapy and photothermal therapy in one system under the irradiation of green light-emitting diode (LED). Subsequently, in vitro cytotoxicity test was analyzed by cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8), the change of mitochondrial membrane potential (Δψm) was determined by immunofluorescence microscopy with R-123 fluorescence, and cell apoptosis and necrosis rate were detected by flow cytometry. The results of CCK8 revealed that the inhibition rates of A549 cells were all greatly increased when cells were treated with free 5-HD, free 5-HD +LED irradiation, Au NPs-PEG-5-HD and Au NPs-PEG-5-HD+LED irradiation, and Au NPs-PEG-5-HD had enhanced cell-killing effect compared with 5-HD, furthermore, the Au NPs-PEG-5-HD and LED irradiation played a very great synergy effect. The immunofluorescence microscopy data also exhibited a reduction of Δψm correspondingly. Flow cytometric analysis showed that the apoptosis rate of cells that were incubated with free 5-HD, 5-HD+LED irradiation, Au NPsPEG-5-HD or Au NPs–PEG–5-HD+LED irradiation significantly increased to about 9.2%, 10.7%, 18.3% or 12.4% and the percentage of necrosis cells increased to around 8.8%, 9.7%, 48.0% or 69.8%, respectively. In a word, all the results indicated that the 5-HD had shown the ability to induce A549 cells apoptosis as a chemotherapy agent, and its ability would be improved when 5-HD is loaded on PEGylated Au NPs, as well as Au NPs-PEG-5-HD exhibited significantly enhanced photothermal effects for treatment of lung adenocarcinomas.

        Fibroblast growth factor 2 exacerbates infl ammation in adipocytes through NLRP3 infl ammasome activation

        Chronic inflammation in adipose tissue is thehallmark of obesity and a major risk factor for the developmentof obesity-induced insulin resistance. NLRP3inflammasome regulates the maturation and secretion ofpro-inflammatory cytokines, such as IL-1β and IL-18, andwas recently discovered to be involved in obesity-relatedmetabolic diseases. Fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) suchas FGF1, FGF10, and FGF21 are adipokines that regulateadipocyte development and metabolism, but reports on theeffect of other FGFs on adipocytes are lacking. In the presentstudy, the novel role of FGF2 in NLRP3 inflammasome activationwas elucidated. Our results showed that FGF2 levelswere increased during adipocyte differentiation and in theadipose tissue of high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obese mice. Recombinant FGF2 treatment upregulated inflammasomemarkers such as NLRP3, which was further exaggeratedby TNF-ɑ treatment. Interestingly, β-Klotho, a co-receptorof FGF21, was significantly decreased by FGF2 treatment. Results from mice confirmed the positive correlationbetween FGF2 and NLRP3 expression in epididymal andsubcutaneous adipose tissue, while exercise training effectivelyreversed HFD-induced NLRP3 expression as well asFGF2 levels in both adipose depots. Our results suggest thatFGF2 is an adipokine that may exacerbate the inflammatory response in adipocytes through NLRP3 inflammasomeactivation.
