Liu, Zhong,Wang, Xin-Mei,Jia, Tong-Fu,Zhai, Yi,Sun, Ling-Yan,Cheng, Yu-Ping,Zhang, Yue-Min,Liu, Shi-Hai,Liang, Jun Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.2
Background: Studies indicate the immediate early response gene 3 (IER3) is involved in many biological processes. Recently, it was discovered that IER3 plays an important role in tumorigenesis and tumor progression. Thus it may be a valuable biomarker in tumor. This study was designed to investigate the expression status of IER3 in primary hepatocarcinoma (PHC) and correlation with clinicopathological parameters. Materials and Methods: Real-time PCR was performed to evaluate the expression levels of IER3 in 62 pathologically diagnosed human PHC specimens. Results: A statistically significant association was disclosed between the expression of IER3 and P53 mutant protein (short for P53), Ki-67, EGFR and the biggest diameter, differentiation grade of tumor. Conclusions: This work is the first to shed light on the potential clinical usefulness of IER3, as an efficient tumor biomarker in PHC.

Background: Binafuxi granules are a traditional Uighur medicine (TUM) for treating the common cold with fever. However, high-quality clinical studies supporting its efficacy and safety are lacking. Methods: In this multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase II clinical trial, patients with common cold and fever were randomly assigned to a high-dose group, low-dose group, and placebo group in a 1:1:1 ratio. Outcomes were time to fever relief, time to fever clearance, proportion of afebrile patients, time to symptom disappearance, rate of symptom disappearance, effective rate, emergency drug usage and safety assessment. Results: A total of 235 patients were recruited. Of these, 234 were included in the full analysis set (FAS), and 217 were included in the per-protocol set (PPS). In the FAS analysis, the median time to fever relief was 6.00 h, 5.54 h and 10.65 h (P = 0.31) in the high-dose group, low-dose group and placebo group, respectively. The median time to fever clearance was 18.29 h, 20.08 h and 25.00 h (P = 0.0018), respectively, and the proportion of afebrile patients was 92.4%, 89.7% and 71.4% (P = 0.0002), respectively. There was a significant difference in the disappearance time and disappearance rate of all symptoms and of individual symptoms. No serious adverse events were found. Conclusions: Binafuxi granules can dose-dependently shorten the fever course and improve clinical symptoms in patients suffering from the common cold with fever.

The extraction and solvent partition of the leaves ofEucalyptus citriodora, and repeated column chromatography for n-BuOH fraction yielded a new flavonoid glycoside, citrioside C (1),along with three known flavonoid glycosides (2-4). The latter wereidentified with kaempferol-3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl (12)-α-L-rhamnoside(2), kaempferol-3-O-α-L-rhamnoside (3), and quercetin-3-O-α-Lrhamnoside(4). Their chemical structures were identified on thebasis of spectroscopic data analyses including NMR, MS, UV, andIR. All constitutents were isolated for the first time from the leavesof Eucalyptus citriodora. The potential antivirus activity of all theisolated compounds was evaluated. Compound 4 showed potentantiviral activity against respiratory syncytial virus with 50%inhibition concentration (IC50) value of 1.9 μg/mL and selectiveindex value of 9.8.
Important Factors on Carbon Dioxide Reforming of Methane over Nickel-Based Catalysts
Liu, Zhong-Wen,Roh, Hyun-Seog,Jun, Ki-Won 한국공업화학회 2003 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.9 No.6
Some factors such as catalyst, temperature, space velocity, feed CO₂/CH₄ ratio, H₂0 and/or O₂addition, have been examined for stable operation of carbon dioxide reforming of CH₄ (CDR) in a fixed-bed reactor under atmospheric pressure. The Ni/Ce-ZrO₂/θ?- A1₂0₃ catalyst showed high activity and stability under all the conditions employed compared with Ni/MgA1₂0₄. This seems to be due to strong interactions between NiO and support and relatively abundant mobile oxygen species in the Ce-ZrO₂ layer: the former would suppress carbon formation step and the latter would activate the carbon elimination step. The carbon deposition over the catalysts in CDR was drastically reduced with a slight increase of feed COdCH4 ratio or the addition of HrO in feed. The oxidation of CH₄ and/or steam reforming of CH₄ occurred simultaneously with carbon dioxide reforming of CH₄, where drastic change of a H₂/CO ratio was observed, when the feed was composed of CH₄, CO₂, H2O and/or O₂.

Nocardiosis is an uncommon opportunistic bacterial infection which becomes a significant health problem due to its increasing incidence and high mortality rate. However, many nocardiosis patients are underdiagnosed by physicians. To summarize the clinical characteristics and management of nocardiosis would help with better diagnosis and prognosis of nocardiosis. This retrospective study was conducted based on the medical records of nocardiosis patients between January 2015 and December 2021 in a tertiary hospital in China. Overall, 44 nocardiosis patients with 54 specimens were included. The patients consisted of 26 males and 18 females with a mean age of 50.4 ± 13.2 years. Among 44 patients, 26 (59.1%) were previously given immunosuppressive therapy. Connective tissue diseases (CTDs) were the most common underlying disease (16/44). The most frequent infection sites were the lungs (17/44) and skin or soft tissues (8/44). Common symptoms included cough (23/44), expectoration (18/44), fever (15/44), and subcutaneous abscesses (15/44). Forty-five out of 54 specimens (83.3%) required over 48 hours of culture time for nocardiosis detection. Thirty-six patients were cured or improved, 5 patients were discharged from the hospital due to poor prognosis, and 1 patient died. The average diagnosis time of poor prognosis cases was 19.7 days, which was significantly longer than those of improved or cured patients (7.3 days). Immunosuppressed patients comprise a large part of nocardiosis cases, which is worth attention in clinical practice. Early diagnosis, specifically through prolonged cultivation time of specimen, could help achieve better prognosis of nocardiosis patients.
Preparation of Cationic Chitosan and Its Application as a Multifunctional Chemical Additive
LIU ZHONG,SANG YI-ZHOU 한국펄프·종이공학회 2006 한국펄프종이학회 기타 간행물 Vol.- No.-
The cationic chitosan is prepared in this paper. This kind of cationic chitosan is a good retention aid for bleached hardwood pulp, the filler retention increased by 33.0% when the cationic chitosan (DS=1.27) dosage was 0.05%. Because many of the materials used in papermaking process are excellent microbiological nutrients, these nutrients will result in the growth of bacteria; uncontrolled growth of bacteria and fungi in the papermaking process adversely affects machine runnability. According to the standard methods of microbe growth inhibition test, cell counting was conducted after proper cultivated time. This paper explored the factors that affecting the cationic chitosan’s antibacterial effect.
