A completely non-contact recognition system for bridge unit influence line using portable cameras and computer vision

Chuan-Zhi Dong,Selcuk Bas,F. Necati Catbas 국제구조공학회 2019 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.24 No.5

Currently most of the vision-based structural identification research focus either on structural input (vehicle location) estimation or on structural output (structural displacement and strain responses) estimation. The structural condition assessment at global level just with the vision-based structural output cannot give a normalized response irrespective of the type and/or load configurations of the vehicles. Combining the vision-based structural input and the structural output from non-contact sensors overcomes the disadvantage given above, while reducing cost, time, labor force including cable wiring work. In conventional traffic monitoring, sometimes traffic closure is essential for bridge structures, which may cause other severe problems such as traffic jams and accidents. In this study, a completely non-contact structural identification system is proposed, and the system mainly targets the identification of bridge unit influence line (UIL) under operational traffic. Both the structural input (vehicle location information) and output (displacement responses) are obtained by only using cameras and computer vision techniques. Multiple cameras are synchronized by audio signal pattern recognition. The proposed system is verified with a laboratory experiment on a scaled bridge model under a small moving truck load and a field application on a footbridge on campus under a moving golf cart load. The UILs are successfully identified in both bridge cases. The pedestrian loads are also estimated with the extracted UIL and the predicted weights of pedestrians are observed to be in acceptable ranges.

Dynamic behavior analysis of push-the-bit rotary steerable bottom hole assembly

        Zhi-chuan Guan,Heng Wang,Yu-cai Shi,Wei-qing Chen,Guo-shan Zhao,Jian-yun Wang,Guang-qiang Cao 대한기계학회 2019 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.33 No.4

Rotary steerable drilling technology is currently an advanced technology in the field of drilling engineering. A good understanding of dynamic behavior of rotary steerable system will benefit the drilling progress. Aimed at push-the-bit type of rotary steerable tool, finite element method was employed to model the rotary steerable bottom hole assembly (RSBHA) and establish the motion equation. Contact interaction between drill string and wellbore wall was analyzed and taken as the constraint condition in solving RSBHA motion equation. Force applied by steering pads was as the external force acting at the pads node. Then RSBHA motion state and bit lateral force were obtained by using Newmark method to solve the motion equation. A case was given and effects of influencing factors were analyzed. The results show that stick-slip phenomenon occurs under 60 r/min rotary speed condition and disappears when rotary speed rises to 90 r/min. Fully developed backward whirl comes into being at the near-bit stabilizer when rotary speed increases to 120 r/min. High weight on bit intensifies bit torsional vibration while larger pads’ steering force decreases the bit torsional vibration. Upper stabilizer plays a part in weakening RSBHA backward whirl under high rotary speed condition but reduces the inclination force. Time average of bit lateral force is mainly determined by pads’ steering force. Based on the results, corresponding suggestions were proposed to make the RSBHA be better used in the field applications.

Twin positive solutions of functional differential equations for the one-dimensional $p$-laplacian

        Chuan-Zhi Bai,Jin-Xuan Fang 대한수학회 2003 대한수학회보 Vol.40 No.2

        For the boundary value problem (BVP) of second order functional differential equations for the one-dimensional $p$-Laplac-ian: \begin{eqnarray*} &\mbox{}& (\Phi_p (y^{\prime}))^{\prime}(t) + m(t) f(t, y^t) = 0 \mbox{} \hspace{0.5cm} {\rm for} \ t \in [0, 1],\\ &\mbox{}& \hspace{12mm} y(t) = \eta (t) \mbox{} \hspace{ 0.5cm} {\rm for} \ t \in [- \sigma, 0],\\ &\mbox{}& \hspace{12mm} y^{\prime}(t) = \xi (t) \mbox{} \hspace{ 0.5cm} {\rm for} \ t \in [1, d], \end{eqnarray*} suitable conditions are imposed on $f(t, y^t)$ which yield the existence of at least two positive solutions. Our result generalizes the main result of Avery, Chyan and Henderson.

A system of nonlinear variational inclusions in real Banach spaces

        Chuan-Zhi Bai,Jin-Xuan Fang 대한수학회 2003 대한수학회보 Vol.40 No.3

        In this paper, we introduce and study a system of nonlinear implicit variational inclusions (SNIVI) in real Banach spaces: determine elements $x^{\ast}, \ y^{\ast}, \ z^{\ast} \in E$ such that $$\theta \in \alpha T(y^{\ast}) + g(x^{\ast}) - g(y^{\ast}) + A(g(x^{\ast})) \hspace{5mm} {\rm for} \ \alpha > 0, $$ $$\theta \in \beta T(z^{\ast}) + g(y^{\ast}) - g(z^{\ast}) + A(g(y^{\ast})) \hspace{5mm} {\rm for} \ \beta > 0,$$ $$\theta \in \gamma T(x^{\ast}) + g(z^{\ast}) - g(x^{\ast}) + A(g(z^{\ast})) \hspace{5mm} {\rm for} \ \gamma > 0, $$ where $T, g : E \to E$, $\theta$ is zero element in Banach space $E$, and $A : E \to 2^E$ be $m$-accretive mapping. By using resolvent operator technique for $m$-accretive mapping in real Banach spaces, we construct some new iterative algorithms for solving this system of nonlinear implicit variational inclusions. The convergence of iterative algorithms be proved in $q$-uniformly smooth Banach spaces and in real Banach spaces, respectively.

In this paper, we introduce and study a system of nonlinear implicit variational inclusions (SNIVI) in real Banach spaces: determine elements $x^{*},\;y^{*},\;z^{*}\;\in\;E$ such that ${\theta}\;{\in}\;{\alpha}T(y^{*})\;+\;g(x^{*})\;-\;g(y^{*})\;+\;A(g(x^{*}))\;\;\;for\;{\alpha}\;>\;0,\;{\theta}\;{\in}\;{\beta}T(z^{*})\;+\;g(y^{*})\;-\;g(z^{*})\;+\;A(g(y^{*}))\;\;\;for\;{\beta}\;>\;0,\;{\theta}\;{\in}\;{\gamma}T(x^{*})\;+\;g(z^{*})\;-\;g(x^{*})\;+\;A(g(z^{*}))\;\;\;for\;{\gamma}\;>\;0,$ where T, g : $E\;{\rightarrow}\;E,\;{\theta}$ is zero element in Banach space E, and A : $E\;{\rightarrow}\;{2^E}$ be m-accretive mapping. By using resolvent operator technique for n-secretive mapping in real Banach spaces, we construct some new iterative algorithms for solving this system of nonlinear implicit variational inclusions. The convergence of iterative algorithms be proved in q-uniformly smooth Banach spaces and in real Banach spaces, respectively.

        Bai, Chuan-Zhi,Fang, Jin-Xuan Korean Mathematical Society 2003 대한수학회보 Vol.40 No.2

For the boundary value problem (BVP) of second order functional differential equations for the one-dimensional $\rho$-Laplaclan: ($\Phi$$_{\rho}$(y'))'(t)+m(t)f(t, $y^{t}$ )=0 for t$\in$[0,1], y(t)=η(t) for t$\in$[-$\sigma$,0], y'(t)=ξ(t) for t$\in$[1,d], suitable conditions are imposed on f(t, $y^{t}$ ) which yield the existence of at least two positive solutions. Our result generalizes the main result of Avery, Chyan and Henderson.

Self-assembly and Mechanism of L-Alanine-based Dihydrazide Derivative as Excellent Gelator of Organic Solvents

        Wang, Chuan-Sheng,Wang, Xiao-Hong,Li, Zhi-Yuan,Wei, Wei,Shi, Zhong-Liang,Sui, Zhi-Tong Korean Chemical Society 2011 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.32 No.4

A new organogelator, L-Alanine dihydrazide derivative can self-assemble in various organic solvents and turned them into thermally reversible physical supramolecular organogels at extremely low concentrations (< 2 wt %). The gel-sol phase transition temperatures ($T_{GS}$) were determined as a function of gelator concentration and the corresponding enthalpies (${\Delta}H_g$) were extracted. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) measurements revealed that the interspaces of fiber-like network structures were diminished with the increasing of the LMOG concentration. FT-IR spectroscopy studies revealed that hydrogen-bonding and hydrophobic interaction were the driving forces for the formation of the gels. Based on the data of XRD and molecular modeling, the possible packing modes for the formation of organogelator aggregates were proposed.

Sharing a Large Secret Image Using Meaningful Shadows Based on VQ and Inpainting

        ( Zhi-hui Wang ),( Kuo-nan Chen ),( Chin-chen Chang ),( Chuan Qin ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2015 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.9 No.12

This paper proposes a novel progressive secret image-hiding scheme based on the inpainting technique, the vector quantization technique (VQ) and the exploiting modification direction (EMD) technique. The proposed scheme first divides the secret image into non-overlapping blocks and categorizes the blocks into two groups: complex and smooth. The blocks in the complex group are compressed by VQ with PCA sorted codebook to obtain the VQ index table. Instead of embedding the original secret image, the proposed method progressively embeds the VQ index table into the cover images by using the EMD technique. After the receiver recovers the complex parts of the secret image by decoding the VQ index table from the shadow images, the smooth parts can be reconstructed by using the inpainting technique based on the content of the complex parts. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme not only has the advantage of progressive data hiding, which involves more shadow images joining to recover the secret image so as to produce a higher quality steganography image, but also can achieve high hiding capacity with acceptable recovered image quality.

        Zhi-Gang Tai,Le Cai,Ya-Bin Yang,Chuan-Shui Liu,Jian-Jun Xia,Zhong-Tao Ding 대한화학회 2010 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.31 No.10

Three new oleanane-type triterpene saponins (1, 2 and 3) were isolated from aerial parts of Gladiolus gandavensis, along with two known compounds (4 and 5). Their structures were elucidated as 29-O-(β-D-glucopyranosyl)-2β,3β-dihydroxyolean-12-en-28-oicacid(1), 3-O-(β-D-xylopyranosyl)-29-O-(β-D-glucopyranosyl)-12-en-28-oic acid (2),and 2β,3β,29-trihydroxyolean-12-en-28-oic acid 28-O-[β-D-glucopyranosyl(1→2)-(α-L-rhamnopyranosyl(1→6))-β-D-glucopyranosyl] ester (3), by spectroscopic methods, and by comparison with known analogues. These oleanane-type triterpene saponins glycosidated at C-29 were not obtained frequently.
