        Contrast enhancement for ultrasound-guided interventions: when to use it and what to expect?

        The use of contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) has recently become synonymous with high-standard ultrasonography (US). From expanding the reach of US diagnostics to improving the precision of various invasive procedures, CEUS is rapidly becoming a standard in numerous niches. However, proficiency in CEUS comes with a cost, both from a learning curve and material standpoint, and as every growing field, lacks firm evidence and standardization. Therefore, in the current paper, we aim to provide an evidence-based review of available methods and to discuss the advantages and pitfalls of CEUS in interventional procedures, trying to provide strong evidence whenever available, or at least an educated expert opinion if data are lacking.

      • High-Performance Stretchable Transparent Electrodes on Biopolymer Substrates

        Stretchable electronic devices have received much attention due to its novel applications including stretchable, werable displays, sensors, solar cells, light emitting skins, biometric devices, and human-interface devices. The development of transparent electrode is of importance to achieve high performance stretchable optoelectronics. Here, we investigate high performance stretchable transparent electrodes based on silver nanowires as alternative electrodes to replace ITO with chitosan stretchable substrates. While PDMS is most widely used materials as a stretchable transparent substrate, chitosan has received much attention as a promising stretchable transparent substrate which is bio-degradable, bio-compatible. The stretchable transparent electrodes on chitosan developed here show the high transmittance (88.9%), the low sheet resistance (12.2 ohm/sq), and excellent stretchability. The stretchable transparent electrodes are successfully adopted into EL devices with ZnS: Cu phosphors.

        동북아지역 환경거버넌스를 통한 평화협력체제 구축 가능성 연구: 월경성(transnational) 대기오염 사례를 중심으로

        이 연구는 새로운 안보문제로 등장하고 있는 동북아지역 환경오염문제를 통해 역내 평화협력체제의 구축 가능성을 살펴보는데 목적을 두고 있다. 최근 국내외적으로 관심이 높은 월경성 대기오염인 황사, 산성비와 같은 초국가적(transnational)인 환경오염문제를 중심으로 한 한ㆍ중ㆍ일 환경협력체제의 현황과 문제점 분석을 통해 개선방안을 제시하였다. 동북아지역에서 효율적인 환경협력을 바탕으로 평화체제를 구축해 나가기 위해서는 무엇보다도 통합된 협력기구가 필요하다. 그리고 그 하나의 방안으로써 ‘한ㆍ중ㆍ일 국제 월경성 대기오염 협력기구’의 설립과 더불어 환경협력체계의 형태, 업무시스템구조의 개선을 통해 한계점을 극복해 나가는 것이 필요하다. 또한 한ㆍ중ㆍ일간에는 전통적인 안보문제가 복잡하게 얽혀있다는 점에서 통합된 환경협력의 주도국으로서 한국의 역할이 중요하다. 이 연구는 동북아에서 환경협력을 통한 평화체제 구축이 가지는 가치와 의미, 장기적인 안목에서 지속가능한 평화체제 구축의 기제로 활용할 수 있는 방안을 제시하였다는데 함의가 있다. The purpose of this study is to shed light on the building possibilities of Environmental Cooperation System in Northeast Asia. First of all, this study was leading the current issue of Environmental Security and progress of Environmental Cooperation System in Northeast Asia through Transnational Environmental Pollution such as Transboundary Air Pollution (yellow dust, acid rain) which has had a high attention locally and abroad. After that analyzed the limitations about the issue and suggested the improvements. The result of this study, we proposed the need for supportive organization of Air Pollution between South and North Korea, China and Japan through discussion that focuses on forms of environmental cooperation system and business system structure as well as leading country in order to unify the environmental cooperation in Northeast Asia. The study showed much important value and meaning of building peaceful system through Environmental Cooperation in Northeast Asia. Furthermore, it proposed a plan that can be used as an alternative for the sustainable peaceful system in global perspective

        Daily Serum Collection after Acellular Dermal Matrix-Assisted Breast Reconstruction

        Background The acellular dermal matrix (ADM)-assisted breast reconstruction technique is widely known, but discouraging results due to early postoperative complications have been reported. As the literature identifies seroma as the most common issue after breast surgery without identifying its pathogenesis, we aimed to report the trend of postoperative daily serum collection after ADM-assisted breast reconstruction and compare it with data in the literature in order to discover more about this little-known topic. Methods A retrospective study on 28 consecutive patients who received ADM-assisted breast reconstruction between February 2013 and February 2014 was performed. In order to reduce the number of variables that could affect serum production, only one brand of ADM was used and all tissues were handled gently and precisely. The daily drainage volume was recorded per patient during the first four days of hospitalization. Likewise, postoperative complications were noted during routine follow-up. Results In total, five (17.9%) bilateral and 23 (82.1%) unilateral ADM-assisted breast reconstructions (33 implants) were performed. The mean age, body mass index, and length of hospital stay were 53.6 years, $21.3kg/m^2$, and 4.5 days, respectively. One major complication led to implant loss (3.0%), and nine minor complications were successfully treated with ambulatory surgery (27.3%). Serum collection linearly decreased after 24 hours postoperatively. Conclusions Daily drainage decreased following the theoretical decline of acute inflammation. In concordance with the literature, daily serum production may not be related to the use of ADM.

        Physical and Mechanical Properties of Light Red Meranti Treated with Boron Preservatives

        This study investigates the influence of varying concentrations of boric acid (BA) preservative on the physical and mechanical properties of light red meranti (LRM) found in Sarawak. LRM or Shorea leprosula samples were treated with various concentrations of BA via the dip diffusion method using American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards. The physical property, particularly the retention rate and mechanical properties, bending strength, modulus of elasticity (MOE), tensile and compression strength parallel to grain of impregnated and control samples were tested to determine the effects of BA preservative. The retention rate was found to increase with increasing BA concentration and higher surface area to volume ratio. The mechanical properties in terms of the MOE and tensile strength parallel to grain were found to be greater than those of the control samples, whereas the bending strength and tensile strength parallel to grain were lower. Amongst the results, only the retention rate and MOE showed significant interaction effects at 5% level of significance between all factors tested (samples size and BA concentration for retention rate and BA concentration for MOE).
