Empowering Women through Entrepreneurship in Uzbekistan

After the independence Uzbekistan opened a new chapter to bring socio-cultural changes in the status of women. Uzbekistan inscribed gender equality in the constitution. Women have been guaranteed equality of rights by the law but are unable to get equality by male dominated society and family. Our traditions and culture still support patriarchal ideology. Work roles are being dominantly taken by men in family. In rural area male more dominant than urban. In Uzbekistan women in rural area have a less access to economic opportunities than women in cities. They are facing with challenges more often than women, who live in, such as working, doing their own business and finding their main roles in Community. I think concerning tradition was important but it was equally important to enter modern life. There are large number of educated and successful women in my country taking active role to improve financial situation not only in their family but also in the development of the community .The objective of this paper is to highlight the status of Uzbek women and review several issues which create challenge for women entrepreneurship in Uzbekistan. Through this paper we shall investigate the case of how to encourage and empower the activist women at Fergana Business Women Association in Uzbekistan. The association, founded in 1991 continues to develop and mentor the women entrepreneurs of Uzbekistan. The mission of the Business women association is to create favorable conditions for women’s participation in the process of market relation’s development, support entrepreneurial initiatives, protect women’s rights, and represent members’ interests.
