Mechanical evaluation of the use of conventional and locking miniplate/screw systems used in sagittal split ramus osteotomy

        Zarina Tatia Barbosa Vieira Santos,Douglas Rangel Goulart,Eder Alberto Sigua Rodriguez,Leandro Pozzer,Sergio Olate,José,Ricardo Albergaria Barbosa 대한구강악안면외과학회 2017 대한구강악안면외과학회지 Vol.43 No.2

Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the mechanical resistance of four different osteosyntheses modeled in two different sagittal split ramus osteotomy (SSRO) designs and to determine the linear loading in a universal testing machine. Materials and Methods: An in vitro experiment was conducted with 40 polyurethane hemimandibles. The samples were divided into two groups based on osteotomy design; Group I, right angles between osteotomies and Group II, no right angles between osteotomies. In each group, the hemimandibles were distributed into four subgroups according to the osteosynthesis method, using one 4-hole 2.0 mm conventional or locking plate, with or without one bicortical screw with a length of 12.0 mm (hybrid technique). Each subgroup contained five samples and was subjected to a linear loading test in a universal testing machine. Results: The peak load and peak displacement were compared for statistical significance using PASW Statistics 18.0 (IBM Co., USA). In general, there was no difference between the peak load and peak displacement related to osteotomy design. However, when the subgroups were compared, the osteotomy without right angles offered higher mechanical resistance when one conventional or locking 2.0 mm plate was used. One locking plate with one bicortical screw showed higher mechanical resistance (162.72±42.55 N), and these results were statistically significantly compared to one conventional plate with monocortical screws (P=0.016) and one locking plate with monocortical screws (P=0.012). The difference in peak displacement was not statistically significant based on osteotomy design or internal fixation system configuration. Conclusion: The placement of one bicortical screw in the distal region promoted better stabilization of SSRO. The osteotomy design did not influence the mechanical behavior of SSRO when the hybrid technique was applied.

The Impact of Spiritual Intelligence on the Health of the Elderly in Malaysia

Zarina Mat Saad,Zulkarnain A. Hatta,Noriah Mohamad 한국사회복지학회 2010 Asian Social Work and Policy Review Vol.4 No.2

In an attempt to study the impact of spiritual intelligence on the health of the elderly, researchhas been carried out on 378 elderly people in Perlis, Malaysia. The primary objectives of thestudy were: (i) to identify the levels of spiritual intelligence and general health of the elderly; (ii) toexamine the relationships between spiritual intelligence and health of elderly; (iii) to examine thedifferences in the level of spiritual intelligence and health based on selected demographic factors;and (iv) to predict the most dominant dimension of spiritual intelligence that affects health. Setsof questionnaires were distributed to gather data. The findings showed that the majority ofrespondents were in good health, and had excellent spiritual intelligence. It also suggested thatspiritual intelligence was positively associated with general health. Those who had higher levelsof spiritual intelligence tended to have higher levels of health. The ability to conduct daily lifewith sanctification based on one’s spiritual belief was the most dominant factor of good health. The study suggested that spirituality is related to health and has a positive effect on participants’overall health. Based on our findings, we recommend that health practitioners introduce thebiopsychosocial-spiritual model when assessing the health of the elderly.

Speaking Up About a Taboo - The НеМолчи Movement in Kazakhstan -

        ( Zarina Malik ),( Dinara Kussain ),( Sejin Koo ) 한국외국어대학교(글로벌캠퍼스) 러시아연구소 2021 슬라브연구 Vol.37 No.3

Violence against women is widely recognized as a global pandemic itself. We focus on Kazakhstan’s recent civic movement against gender-based violence that uses the Russa-language online hashtag #НеМолчиKZ (“Do not keep silent”) on social media. The post-Soviet transitions in Central Asia include not only the collapse of the communist politico-economic system, but also the reinforcement of gender stereotypes and a patriarchal social structure with specific reference to public shame and stigma targeted against women. Thus, speaking openly about the extent to which women are deprived of rights and about the gender-based violence women face has been taboo. It is when the dissonance between the government’s official declarations on gender equality and the actual deterioration of women’s opportunities to participate in decision-making processes became conspicuous that the #НеМолчиKZ campaign was initiated. We explore the contents of the #НеМолчиKZ social media posts to identify patterns in online user responses to the posts. Our analysis reveals the message that this movement has tried to convey and the type of messages that went viral. We conclude by discussing how the НеМолчиKZ movement is intervening in Kazakhstani government processes during the coronavirus pandemic and what challenges it faces.

      • Epidemiological Evaluation of Breast Cancer in Ecological areas of Kazakhstan - Association with Pollution Emissions

Bilyalova, Zarina,Igissinov, Nurbek,Moore, Malcolm,Igissinov, Saginbek,Sarsenova, Samal,Khassenova, Zauresh Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.5

The aim of the research was to evaluate the incidence of breast cancer in the ecological areas of Kazakhstan and assess the potential. A retrospective study of 11 years (1999 to 2009) was conducted using descriptive and analytical methods. The incidence of breast cancer was the lowest in the Aral-Syr Darya area ($18.6{\pm}0.80$/100,000), and highest in the Irtysh area ($48.9{\pm}1.90$/100,000), with an increasing trends over time in almost all areas. A direct strong correlation between the degree of contamination with high pollution emissions in the atmosphere from stationary sources and the incidence of breast cancer ($r=0.77{\pm}0.15$; p=0.026). The results indicate an increasing importance of breast cancer in Kazakhstan and an etiological role for environmental pollution.

Using Kirkpatrick's Evaluation Model in a Multimedia-based Blended Learning Environment

Embi, Zarina Che,Neo, Tse-Kian,Neo, Mai Korea Multimedia Society 2017 The journal of multimedia information system Vol.4 No.3

Over the years, there has been much research in blended learning. However, research regarding its use and evaluation is inconsistent, not following any specific evaluation method, and may not be applicable to local students. In this research, a case study was conducted to evaluate the environment based on three levels of Kirkpatrick's model. Methodological triangulation was the principle of data collection used in which multiple sources of evidence were triangulated to provide insights into this study. Instruments used include surveys, interviews, questionnaires and pre- and post-tests that are guided by Kirkpatrick's model. The results revealed that students were positive with the learning environment. Students enjoyed learning with multimedia and motivated to learn as well as engaged in the environment. The tests showed significant difference in their learning. Students also perceived that they have transferred their learning from face-to-face lecture into problem-based learning and learning outcome. This research contributes to the field by providing deeper insights into assessments in multimedia-based blended learning environment and empirical evidence on views, attitudes, learning and knowledge transfer of students in higher education.

3-L Model: A Model for Checking the Integrity Constraints of Mobile Databases

Hamidah Ibrahim,Zarina Dzolkhifli,Lilly Suriani Affendey,Praveen Madiraju 한국정보과학회 2009 Journal of Computing Science and Engineering Vol.3 No.4

In this paper we propose a model for checking integrity constraints of mobile databases called Three-Level (3-L) model, wherein the process of constraint checking to maintain the consistent state of mobile databases is realized at three different levels. Sufficient and complete tests proposed in the previous works together with the idea of caching relevant data items for checking the integrity constraints are adopted. This has improved the checking mechanism by preventing delays during the process of checking constraints and performing the update. Also, the 3-L model reduces the amount of data accessed given that much of the tasks are performed at the mobile host, and hence speeds up the checking process.

Retention and stability of bioactive compounds in functional peach beverage using pasteurization, microwave and ultrasound technologies

        Saira Sattar,Muhammad Imran,Zarina Mushtaq,Muhammad Haseeb Ahmad,Muhammad Sajid Arshad,Melvin Holmes,Joanne Maycock,Muhammad Faisal Nisar,Muhammad Kamran Khan 한국식품과학회 2020 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.29 No.10

The peach functional beverages pasteurized for10 min at 90 C, microwaved for 1.5 min at 850 W ofpower and sonicated for 90 min at 20 kHz of frequencywere selected to keep in storage for up to 30 days inrefrigerator to examine the changes happened to theirphysicochemical characteristics and functional components. It was observed that the pH and the cloud values ofall processed juice samples reduces with the storage time, whereas, the total soluble solids almost remain consistentparticularly in microwave and ultrasound treated samples. While storage period causes the decrement in total phenoliccontent (TPC) and total flavonoid content of treated beveragesamples, but ultrasound processing showed greaterretention of TPC value up to 5.7% more than other techniquesduring storage. The similar trend was observed forantioxidant activity where the ultrasound treatment showedimproved free radicals (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl and2,20-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)scavenging activities except ferric ion reducing antioxidantpower after 30 days of storage.

      • Spatial and Temporal Epidemiological Assessment of Breast Cancer Incidence and Mortality in Kazakhstan, 1999-2013

Beysebayev, Eldar,Bilyalova, Zarina,Kozhakeeva, Lyazzat,Baissalbayeva, Ainur,Abiltayeva, Aizhan Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.15

Breast cancer incidence and mortality in Kazakhstan are considered to be increasing but exact statistics have hitherto been lacking. The present study was therefore undertaken to retrospectively assess data for the whole country, accessed from the central registration office, for the period 1999-2013. Age standardized data for incidence and mortality were generated and compared across age groups. It was determined that during the studied period 45,891 new cases of breast cancer were registered and 20,122 women died of this pathology. Average breast cancer incidence and mortality were $37.9{\pm}1.10/10^5$ and $16.7{\pm}0.20/10^5$ respectively, and the overall ratio of mortality/incidence (M/I) was 0.44. Incidence tended to increase (T = + 2.3%), and mortality to decrease (T of =-0.3%). Peaks of incidence and mortality were noted in those aged 60-74 years and 75-84, respectively. Particularly high incidences were established in large cities of Kazakhstan, Astana ($46.8{\pm}1.80/10^5$) and Almaty ($49.7{\pm}1.30/10^5$), and high mortality was observed in the Pavlodar region ($17.9{\pm}0.60/10^5$) and Almaty city ($20.1{\pm}0.40/10^5$). Considerable variation in the mortality/incidence ratio was noted, suggesting the need for more stress on access to screening and clinical care in some regions of the country.
