Active Queue Management Algorithm for TCP Networks with Integral Backstepping and Minimax

A novel active queue management (AQM) approach is considered for a class of TCP network systems inthis paper. A sufficient condition is given and the corresponding control is obtained based on integral back-steppingtechnique (IB) and minimax method. The presented results not only are used to deal with the disturbances producedby UDP flows, but also can shorten the convergent time of the signals. Simulation examples are carried out to verifythe effectiveness and superiority of the proposed algorithm.

Purpose Autophagy is one of the ways to degrade unfolded proteins after endoplasmic reticulum(ER) stress. The purpose of this study is to determine whether a blockade of autophagyleads to aggravated endoplasmic reticulum stress, which then induces cells apoptosis inHeLa cells treated with paclitaxel. Materials and MethodsAutophagy activation and the proapoptotic effects were characterized using monodansylcadaverinelabeling and Hoechest staining, respectively. A Western blot analysis was usedto detect the expression of apoptotic and autophagy-related genes. A flow cytometry wasused to assess the cell apoptosis ratio. ResultsPaclitaxel exposure induced the aggregation of autophagosomes in the cytoplasms ofcervical cancer HeLa cells. The expression of Beclin 1 and LC3 II were upregulated, but p62was downregulated, which suggests that autophagy was promoted by paclitaxel. On theother hand, the expression of GRP78 obviously increased, suggesting that ER stress wasinduced after paclitaxel treatment. The cell proliferation assay indicated that a knockdownof Beclin 1 sensitized HeLa cells to paclitaxel. Furthermore, paclitaxel-mediated apoptoticcell death was further potentiated by the pretreatment with autophagy inhibitor chloroquineor small interfering RNA against Beclin 1. These results suggest that an induction ofautophagy by paclitaxel may induce cell survival rather than cell death in HeLa cells;moreover, inhibition of autophagy led to an aggravated ER stress and an induction ofdownstream apoptosis. ConclusionOur results reveal autophagy induced by paclitaxel conferred protection of tumor cellsagainst apoptosis, and blockade of autophagy subsequently aggravated ER stress, enhancingthe apoptosis associated with paclitaxel treatment in HeLa cells.
One-Step Process for the Exfoliation and Surface Modification of Graphene by Electrochemical Method

<P>SDBS modified graphene was prepared by electrochemical method using Sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS) as electrolyte and graphite rod as electrode. The anode graphite rod was corroded and deposited at the bottom of the electrolyte solution. The obtained graphene was characterized by Atomic force microscopy (AFM), Raman and Fourier transform infrared spectra (FT-IR). AFM images indicated that most of the layers had the thickness of less than 2 nm, suggesting the fromation of single layer of graphene. The resulting graphene showed very good dispersion stability both in water and in organic solvents (ethanol, acetone).</P>
Current situation and future prospects for beef production in China - A review

The beef industry is an important part of livestock and meat production in China. China ranks third in the world for beef production. With the rapid development of the Chinese economy, beef consumption has grown rapidly, and beef consumption has been increasing with rising per capita gross domestic production. However, the domestic beef industry in China has not been able to keep pace with growth in consumption, making China a net importer of beef from other countries. Moreover, the volume of production has increased little despite rising demand. The slowing of growth in beef production in recent years has led to a sharp rise in beef prices. Domestic beef production and consumption is restricted by a shortage of beef cattle inventory. The Chinese beef industry is facing many technical problems including transformation of traditional practices, feeding and management systems, and genetic improvement of cattle breeds. The long-term, sustainable development of the Chinese beef industry is an important issue for China.
Smart and versatile biomaterials for cutaneous wound healing

The global increase of cutaneous wounds imposes huge health and financial burdens on patients and society. Despite improved wound healing outcomes, conventional wound dressings are far from ideal, owing to the complex healing process. Smart wound dressings, which are sensitive to or interact with changes in wound condition or environment, have been proposed as appealing therapeutic platforms to effectively facilitate wound healing. In this review, the wound healing processes and features of existing biomaterials are firstly introduced, followed by summarizing the mechanisms of smart responsive materials. Afterwards, recent advances and designs in smart and versatile materials of extensive applications for cutaneous wound healing were submarined. Finally, clinical progresses, challenges and future perspectives of the smart wound dressing are discussed. Overall, by mapping the composition and intrinsic structure of smart responsive materials to their individual needs of cutaneous wounds, with particular attention to the responsive mechanisms, this review is promising to advance further progress in designing smart responsive materials for wounds and drive clinical translation.

A total of 49 phenolic compounds were identified from the aged red wines made from Cabernet Gernischt (Vitis vinifera L. cv.) grapes, a Chinese characteristic variety, including 13 anthocyanins, 4 pryanocyanins, 4 flavan-3-ol monomers, 6 flavan-3-ol polymers, 7 flavonols, 6 hydroxybenzoic acids, 5 hydroxycinnamic acids, 3 stilbenes, and 1 polymeric pigment. Evolution of these compounds was investigated in wines aged 1 to 13 months. Variance analysis showed that the levels of most phenolics existed significant difference in between wines aged 3 and 9 months. Cluster analysis indicated that 2 groups could be distinguished, one corresponding to wines aged 1 to 3 months and the other to wines aged 4 to 13 months. It was thus suggested that there were 2 key-stages for the development of fine wine quality, at the aged 3 and 9 months, respectively. This work would provide some helpful information for quality control in wine production.

Hepatitis B protein x (HBx) has been reported to promote tumorigenesis in hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but the mechanism awaits further investigation. In this study, we found that cFAM210A (a circular RNA derived from the third exon of transcript NM_001098801 of the FAM210A gene; CircBase ID: hsa_circ_0003979) can be silenced by HBx. cFAM210A expression was downregulated and negatively correlated with tumorigenesis in patients with HBV-related HCC. Furthermore, cFAM210A reduced the proliferation, stemness, and tumorigenicity of HCC cells. Mechanistically, HBx increased the N6-methyladenosine (m6A) level of cFAM210A by promoting the expression of RBM15 (an m6A methyltransferase), thus inducing the degradation of cFAM210A via the YTHDF2-HRSP12-RNase P/MRP pathway. cFAM210A bound to YBX1 and inhibited its phosphorylation, suppressing its transactivation function toward MET. These findings suggest the important role of circular RNAs in HBx-induced hepatocarcinogenesis and identify cFAM210A a potential target in the prevention and treatment of HBV-related HCC.

Branched polystyrene was first obtained via a reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT)process in the presence of chain transfer monomer p-vinyl benzene sulfonyl chloride (VBSC) in benzene at 60 oC with 2-(ethoxycarbonyl)prop-2-yl dithiobenzoate as the RAFT agent and 2,2-azobisisobutyronitrile as an initiator. During the RAFT polymerization, VBSC played the role of branching agent. It could not only copolymerized but also acted as a chain transfer agent due to the polymerizable vinyl group and sulfonyl chloride chain transfer group in the VBSC. Gel permeation chromatography (GPC) traces demonstrated that the number-average molecular weights and molecular weight distributions increased along with monomer conversion. Compared with the RAFT process without VBSC, the resulting polymers had broad molecular weight distributions and the sulfonyl functionality of the resultant polymer at the branching point, indicating the formation of branched polystyrene. The structure of the obtained polystyrene was further analyzed by proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) spectroscopy. The findings indicated that the branched polystyrene was mainly formed via the RAFT copolymerization of VBSC and styrene firstly to form polystyrene bearing pendant sulfonyl chloride group, and then the pendant sulfonyl chloride group acted as the chain transfer agent to generate the branched structure. In addition, the degree of branching and VBSC unit in copolymer increased along with the VBSC in the feed, implying that composition and structure of the branched polystyrenes could be tuned by the amount of VBSC in the feed.
