<P>Conventional amines and phosphines, such as diethylenetriamine, diphenylpropylphosphine, triethylamine, and tetramethylpiperidine, were grafted or impregnated on the surface of metalated SBA-15 materials, such as <B>Ti</B>-, <B>Al</B>-, and <B>Zr</B>-SBA-15, to generate air-stable solid-supported Lewis acid-base pairs. The Lewis acidity of the metalated materials before and after the introduction of Lewis bases was verified by means of pyridine adsorption-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Detailed characterization of the materials was achieved by solid-state 13C and 31P MAS NMR spectroscopy, low-temperature N2 physisorption, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and energy-dispersive X-ray mapping analyses. Study of their potential interactions with CO2 was performed using CO2 adsorption isotherm experiments, which provided new insights into their applicability as solid CO2 adsorbents. A correlation between solid-supported Lewis acid-base pair strength and the resulting affinity to CO2 is discussed based on the calculation of isosteric enthalpy of adsorption.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>
Economic cooperation between Russia and North Korea: New goals and new approaches
Liudmila Zakharova 한양대학교 아태지역연구센터 2016 Journal of Eurasian Studies Vol.7 No.2
For many years the Soviet Union was the key economic partner of North Korea. After the USSR broke up, Russia has not played such an important role in the DPRK's economic development. In 2013, its share in the foreign trade of North Korea accounted for a mere 1%. However, in the second decade of the 21st century bilateral, contacts have intensified significantly. Judging by the recent developments, the Russian leadership has made a political decision to expand economic cooperation with North Korea and stimulate Russia's business interests with the DPRK. Russia has set a goal of growing the volume of its trade with North Korea by a factor of ten by 2020. Moreover, Moscow is currently developing a number of investment projects in the DPRK and Russian companies are also looking at developing more of them. Another important aim for Russia is the implementation of big infrastructure projects with both Koreas. The article examines the current position and future prospects for economic cooperation between Russia and North Korea and analyses main forms and potential opportunities for developing bilateral economic relations. Particular attention is paid to the expanding cooperation mechanisms and joint economic projects between Russia and the DPRK and also the potential participation of the Republic of Korea.

This paper addresses the problems of using anti-freeze lubricants for different machines that must function at extremely low temperatures during winter operation in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). We discuss the possibility of obtaining anti-freeze base oils from Talakan crude oil, an area with major oil and gas deposits of the Republic of Sakha, and also provide the trade and technological classification of Talakan crude oil. We propose two different schemes for processing Talakan crude oil: the fuel scheme (obtaining light and heavy fractions as a fuel oil) and the base oil scheme (obtaining light fractions and base oils). We investigate the influence of pour point depressants on alkyl-methacrylate base on the low-temperature properties of the fractions obtained from Talakan crude oil and Korean base oils, and establish the optimal concentration of pour point depressants. We compare the properties of these fractions with the low-temperature properties of Korean base oils and find that the commercial oil “Ravenol 0W?40” provides optimistic results. We obtain oil with a pour point of minus 50°C and a viscosity index greater than 100. The Design of Experiment was used to establish the optimum composition of the pour point depressants and the base oil S-8 to obtain lubricant oil with a kinematic viscosity of 17 cSt, viscosity index of 208, and a pour point of minus 64°C.

Phytoplankton and bacterioplankton play a key role in carbon cycling of aquatic ecosystems. In this study, we found that co-occurrence patterns between different types of phytoplankton, bacterioplankton, and environmental parameters in Lake Baikal during spring were different over the course of three consecutive years. The composition of phytoplankton and bacterial communities was investigated using microscopy and 16S rRNA gene pyrosequencing, respectively. Non-metric multidimensional scaling (NMDS) revealed a relationship between the structure of phytoplankton and bacterial communities and temperature, location, and sampling year. Associations of bacteria with diatoms, green microalgae, chrysophyte, and cryptophyte were identified using microscopy. Cluster analysis revealed similar correlation patterns between phytoplankton abundance, number of attached bacteria, ratio of bacteria per phytoplankton cell and environmental parameters. Positive and negative correlations between different species of phytoplankton, heterotrophic bacteria and environmental parameters may indicate mutualistic or competitive relationships between microorganisms and their preferences to the environment.

Background and Purpose A few groups have suggested that activated cytokines and nitrosative stress are closely involved in the pathogenesis of different demyelinating disorders induced by the neuroinflammatory destruction of neurons. The purpose of this study was to elucidate the associations of cytokines and S-nitrosothiols (RSNO) with the severity of neurodegeneration during relapse in demyelinating disorders of the central nervous system. Methods We measured levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6), erythropoietin, RSNO, and phosphorylated neurofilament heavy chain (pNfh) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples obtained from patients with different demyelinating disorders: multiple sclerosis (MS, n=52), acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM, n=9), and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD) with aquaporin-4 immunoglobulin G (AQP4-IgG, n=12). We compared these levels with those measured in a control group (n=24). Results We found that IL-6 in CSF was elevated in NMOSD with AQP4-IgG and ADEM patients as well as in MS patients after the destruction of soluble IL-6. Erythropoietin levels were lower in MS, while RSNO levels were higher in NMOSD with AQP4-IgG and MS patients than in the control group. CSF pNfh levels were elevated in MS and ADEM patients. Conclusions These results confirm that IL-6 is activated in different demyelinating disorders, with this elevation being more prominent in the CSF of NMOSD with AQP4-IgG and ADEM patients. Moreover, S-nitrosylation is activated in demyelinating disorders with spinal-cord injury and neurodegeneration in these patients. However, we found no correlation between these biochemical markers, and so we could not confirm whether IL-6-mediated nitric oxide production is involved in spinal-cord lesions.

Many recent development activities suggest the possibility of a high-speed turbo(centrifugal) compressor or blower for the industrial application of compressed air supplying system when used with the most advanced high-speed motor, inverter technology, and advanced bearing for high rotational speed. The problems to be overcome are of reliability, the application of mass production methods, cost effective manufacture and competitive running costs. This presentation is not focused on a specific technology advances but on an overall review of our recent experiences while we have developed the high pressure turbo blower for the commercial purpose.
