A compact power amplifier unit for X-band solid-state Active Phased Array Antennas (APAAs) has been developed. Its major features are, (1) high power GaN (Gallium Nitride) HEMT is employed, (2)16 transmit MICmodules are arrayed in line on a thin flat printed wiring board (PWB), (3) output power is 30W (pulse) at eachtransmit-output port of the unit, hence 480 W in total, and (4) other necessary functions for phased array antennas, such as digital phase-shifters and RF dividers, are all included in this PWB. Resulting electrical measured data are presented in detail in the paper, proving that further power and frequency range increase for APAAs would become feasible by the concepts employed in this unit design.

A wide-band radio-frequency (RF) probe system was newly constructed for the active diagnostic of the eigenmode formations in the ion-cyclotron range of frequencies in the GAMMA 10 tandem mirror. A bar-type antenna was installed in the peripheral region in the minimum-B anchor cell. A low-power RF pulse with the frequency sweep from 8 to 20 MHz is applied to the antenna. The waves excited in the plasma are detected with a magnetic probe. The excitation of eigenmodes is described by using the antenna-plasma-probe transfer function. The transfer function can be obtained from the antenna current signal and the magnetic probe signal. When the real and the imaginary part of the transfer function are plotted in the complex plane, the resultant curves are approximately circles, indicating an eigenmode formation. It is found that the several fast wave eigenmodes can be excited in the present experimental condition.

In Japan, the population progresses to the extreme aging society and it is entering the phase of the population decrease while the population increase is continuing in the world. The construction market is expected to shrink accordingly, however the situation of labor shortage is expected to continue at a faster rate, because the aging of construction workers is progressing and new younger labor force cannot be secured. In order to supplement the labor shortage, it is required to progress mechanization, automation, labor saving, and efficiency improvement by utilizing the information well in each stage in a series of flow of planning, design, construction, operation, and disassembly in one building. The measures to maintain and expand the construction market by the new efficiency improvement techniques which enhance the utilization degree of building information are required. Currently, the elemental technologies which utilized BIM (Building Information Modeling) are accumulated by advancing digitization in each phase. DX (Digital transformation) in the construction industry can be achieved by the technology maturing and having a series of continuities. It is anticipated that this will evolve to a new method which is unprecedented. Present status of BIM and mechanized constructions in Taisei Construction are introduced, and future prospect is described.
South-Coast Cyclone in Japan During El Niño-Caused Warm Winters
Hiroaki Ueda,Yuusuke Amagai,Masamitsu Hayasaki 한국기상학회 2017 Asia-Pacific Journal of Atmospheric Sciences Vol.53 No.2
La Niña conditions during boreal winter sometimes brings excessive snowfall in Japan, especially on the East Sea/Sea of Japan coastal and mountain areas through intensified northwesterly cold winds caused by La-Niña related atmospheric teleconnection. Meanwhile, snowfall events also increase in the Pacific coast area of Japan during the El Niño state due to extratropical cyclones passing along the south coast of Japan (hereafter referred to as South-coast cyclone). In the present study, we investigated year-to-year snowfall/ rainfall variations based on meteorological station data and cyclone tracks identified by using the Japanese 55-year Reanalysis. The result clearly indicates increase of the South-coast cyclone during El Niño-developing winters, which is consistent with excessive snowfall in the northern part of the Pacific coast. Strong subtropical jet hampers cyclogenesis due to less vertical interaction through the trapping of upper-level eddies. During El Niño-developing winters, the subtropical jet is weakened over East Asia, indicating dynamic linkage to increased cyclone frequency. In addition to this, both the deepening of the upper-tropospheric trough over East Asia and anomalous low-tropospheric northwest anticyclones extending from the Philippines toward Japan are also consistent with the enhancement of cyclogenesis over the East China Sea as well as warm winter in Japan.

Background/Aims: Bleeding is a complication of endoscopic snare papillectomy for ampullary tumors. This study aimed toinvestigate the clinical efficacy of hypertonic saline-epinephrine (HSE) local injection before endoscopic papillectomy for preventionof bleeding. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the data of 107 consecutive patients with ampullary tumors who underwent endoscopicpapillectomy. The rates of en bloc resection, pathological resection margins, and prevention of immediate or delayed bleeding in thesimple snaring resection group (Group A) and the HSE injection group (Group B) were compared. Results: A total of 44 and 63 patients were enrolled in Groups A and B, respectively. The total complete resection rate was 89.7%(96/107); the clinical complete resection rates in Group A and Group B were 86.3% (38/44) and 92.1% (58/63), respectively (p=0.354). Post-papillectomy bleeding occurred in 22 patients. In Groups A and B, the immediate bleeding rates were 20.5% (9/44) and 4.8%(3/63), respectively (p=0.0255), while the delayed bleeding rates were 7% (3/44) and 11% (7/63), respectively (p=0.52). The rates ofpositive horizontal and vertical pathological margin in both groups were 27% and 16%, respectively. Conclusions: HSE local injection was effective in preventing immediate bleeding and was useful for safely performing endoscopicpapillectomy for ampullary tumors.
