        Adsorption of carbon dioxide and water vapor on fly-ash based ETS-10

        CO2 capture from humid flue gas is always costly due to the irreplaceable pretreatment of dehydration in current processes, which creates an urgent demand for moisture-insensitive adsorbents with considerable CO2 uptakes as well as remarkable H2O tolerances. In the present work, the microporous titanium silicate molecular sieve ETS-10 was synthesized with coal fly ash as the only silica source. The as-synthesized ETS-10 was characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electronic microscopy and infrared spectroscopy to verify its crystal morphology, in which neither impurity nor aggregation was observed. The following CO2 adsorption experiments on the thermal gravimetric analyzer demonstrated its similar CO2 adsorption capacity yet dramatical adsorption kinetics among some other microporous materials, e.g., potassium chabazite. These specific properties consequently guaranteed its favorable CO2 adsorption capacity even at high temperatures (1.35mmol/g at 393 K) and shortened the breakthrough time of single CO2 flow to less than 20 s. In CO2/H2O binary breakthrough experiments, the as-obtained ETS-10 still maintained excellent CO2 uptake of 0.81mmol/g at 323 K, regardless of the presence of water vapor, making it a promising substitute for direct CO2 separation from humid flue gases at practical conditions of post-combustion adsorption.

        The Essence of ‘the People as the Root’ as ‘the Sovereignty of the People’ and Its Principles of Justice -A Reading of the Duke Zhou’s Philosophy of Polity

        中國政治哲學的傳統就是“民本”政治。這種傳統是由周公奠定基礎的。“民本”思想的實質乃是“人民主權”;而不論是我們正在建設的現代民權政治, 還是中國歷史上的王權政治和皇權政治, 都不過是實現這種人民主權的不同方式而已。而此表現形式之變革, 又无不基于中國政治哲學傳統的正義原則:正當性、适宜性。因此, 現代民主應僅僅被視爲民本的一種特定表現形式。 The tradition of Chinese philosophy of polity is the politics of ‘(regarding) the People as the Root (of a country)’, the foundation of which was laid by the Duke Zhou. The essence of the thoughts of ‘the People as the Root’ is ‘the Sovereignty of the People’ (the sovereignty belongs to the people). Either modern polity of civil power we are constituting or the polities of kingly power and imperial power in Chinese history are only some different forms of the same ‘the Sovereignty of the People’. All the changes of the forms, without exception, were and will be on the basis of the principles of justice (properness and fitness) in the tradition of Chinese philosophy of polity. For this reason, modern democracy should be merely regarded as one of the specific forms of ‘the People as the Root’. [Article in Chinese]

        Hypertonicity Down-regulates the 1α,25(OH)₂Vitamin D₃-induced Osteoclastogenesis Via the Modulation of RANKL Expression in Osteoblast

        Bone remodeling is a process controlled by the action of two major bone cells; the bone forming osteoblast and the bone resorbing osteoclast. In the process of osteoclastogenesis, stromal cells and osteoblast produce RANKL, OPG, and MCSF, which in turn regulate the osteoclastogenesis. During the bone resorption by activated osteoclasts, extra cellular Ca^(2+)/PO^(2-)₄ concentration and degraded organic materials goes up, providing the hypertonic microenvironment. In this study, we tested the effects of hypertonicity due to the degraded organic materials on osteoclastogenesis in co-culture system. It was examined the cellular response of osteoblastic cell in terms of osteoclastogenesis by applying the sucrose, and mannitol, as a substitute of degraded organic materials to co-culture system. Apart from the sucrose, mannitol, and NaCl was tested to be compared to the effect of organic osmotic particles. The addition of sucrose and mannitol (25, 50, 100, 150, or 200mM) to coculture medium inhibited the number of tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) positive multinucleated cells induced by 10nM lα, 25(OH)₂vitaminD₃ (lα, 25(OH)₂D₃). However, NaCl did exert harmful effect upon the cells in this co-culture system, which is attributed to DNA damage in high concentration of NaCl. To further investigate the mechanism by which hypertonicity inhibits lα, 25(OH)₂D₃induced osteoclastogenesis, the mRNA expressions of receptor activator of nuclear factor (NF)-kB ligand (RANKL) and osteoprotegerin (OPG) were monitored by RT-PCR. In the presence of sucrose (50mM), RANKL mRNA expression was decreased in a dose-dependent manner, while the change in OPG and M-CSF mRNA were not occurred in significantly. The RANKL mRNA expression was inhibited for 48 hours in the presence of sucrose (50mM), but such a decrement recovered after 72 hours. However, there were no considerable changes in the expression of OPG and M-CSF mRNA. Conclusively, these findings strongly suggest that hypertonic stress down-regulates lα, 25(OH)₂D₃-induced osteoclastogenesis via RANKL signal pathway in osteoblastic cell, and may play a pivotal role as a regulator that modulates osteoclastogenesis.

        Analogy and Rise:The Idea as the Source in Poetics and Confucianism -Re-inquiry into Zhu Xi’s Collected Commentary on The Book of Songs

        本文是對中國詩學基本范疇“比興”與朱熹《詩集傳》的專題硏究, 然而意在儒學本身的本源觀念的澄淸。朱熹的詩學思想其實是儒學的一種形而上學建構, 這種精致的哲學建構將儒家形而上學推向了歷史的高峰, 但同時也蔽塞了孔子“比興”觀念對于儒學的本源意義。本文旨在通過對朱熹詩學的重新認識和批評, 還原儒家詩學的本眞面目, 從而回到孔子儒學的本源觀念。 The thesis is the research about the basic category of Chinese poetics-“analogy(比) and rise(兴)” and Zhu Xi’s Variorum of the Book of Songs. However, the gist of the thesis is to clear the original ideas of Confucianism itself. Zhu Xi’s thought of poetics is actually a construction of Confucian metaphysics, this exquisite construction has push the Confucian metaphysics to the climax of history, while on the other hand, blocking the original sense of “analogy and rise” of Confucius to Confucianism. The thesis aims at reduction of Confucian poetics, thus coming back to the original idea of Confucianism of Confucius, through recognizing and criticizing Zhu Xi’s poetics. [Article in Chinese]

        Synthesis of fly ash-based microporous copper silicate for CO2 capture from humid flue gases

        Conventional microporous adsorbents suffer from CO2 adsorption capacity reduction due to the presence of water vapor in real flue gases. Therefore, development of low-cost moisture-insensitive adsorbents is of great significance. In the present work, microporous copper silicate was synthesized from waste fly ash for the first time. The synthesis conditions were further optimized to obtain copper silicates with high purities. The as-synthesized product was characterized in terms of structural morphology, chemical composition, and surface properties. The CO2 and H2O adsorption properties of the prepared copper silicate were also investigated by single-component isotherm measurements and dynamic CO2/H2O binary breakthrough experiments. The results show that the as-synthesized fly ash-based copper silicate exhibited excellent CO2 adsorption properties even in the presence of water vapor, thus demonstrating promising potential as a moisture-insensitive adsorbent for directly capturing CO2 from humid flue gases.

        A Windowed-Total-Variation Regularization Constraint Model for Blind Image Restoration

        Blind restoration for motion-blurred images is always the research hotspot, and the key for the blind restorationis the accurate blur kernel (BK) estimation. Therefore, to achieve high-quality blind image restoration, thisthesis presents a novel windowed-total-variation method. The proposed method is based on the spatial scale ofedges but not amplitude, and the proposed method thus can extract useful image edges for accurate BKestimation, and then recover high-quality clear images. A large number of experiments prove the superiority.

        Robust Fault Diagnosis Observer Design for Uncertain Switched Systems

        In order to improve the fault diagnosis theory of switched systems, observer-based method is proposed to deal with the fault diagnosis issue subjected to the parameter uncertainty, unknown process disturbances and unexpected faults. By employing proportional-integral observer (PIO) technique and the average dwell-time (ADT) method, an H∞/H− performance level is considered to ensure the worst case of robustness to the disturbance and sensitivity to the fault simultaneously. Moreover, the obtained fault diagnosis observer can give accurate fault estimation online for the piecewise constant fault. Finally, a two-tank system example is introduced in the end to show the effectiveness of the proposed results.

        This paper studies the problem of designing an observer-based admissible controller for singular delta operator systems. Sufficient conditions are provided for the existence of an asymptotical and physically realizable observer. Then an observer-based admissible controller is obtained in terms of strict linear matrix inequalities. The corresponding gain matrices appeared in our proposed approach can be constructed through the feasible solutions of a set of linear matrix inequalities. Some numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the theoretical outcomes of the paper.

        Experimental Study on the Preparation of MA@PS@Fe3O4 Phase Change Microcapsules to Inhibit the Development of Electric Branches in Epoxy Resin Cured Compounds

        Development of electric branches caused by partial discharge leads to degradation in the performance of epoxy resin insulation materials, which seriously threatens the safe and stable operation of power equipment. In this study, n-tetradecanol (MA)@polystyrene microsphere (PS)@Fe3O4 core–shell phase change microcapsules were designed and prepared. Doping 0.1 wt% phase change microcapsular material into the epoxy resin cured compound inhibited the development of electric branches. SEM and EDS tests showed that the phase-change microcapsules had monodisperse spherical core–shell structures with an MA encapsulation rate of 24.73% and excellent phase-change thermal storage capacity. Electric field simulations revealed that Fe3O4 nanoparticles in the microcapsule shell enhanced the local field strength of the cured epoxy resin and induced the development of electric branches toward the interior of the microcapsule. Moreover, doping of microcapsules into the epoxy resin significantly slowed the rate of temperature rise and thus inhibited further development of electric branches in epoxy resin cured products. In comparison with the epoxy resin cured without microcapsules, it was found that the longitudinal and transverse lengths of electric branches were reduced by 56.6% and 69.1%, respectively, in the epoxy resin cured with 0.1 wt% MA@PS@Fe3O4 microcapsules, and the electric branch initiation field strength was increased from 0.57 to 0.68 kV/mm. This indicated that MA@PS@Fe3O4 microcapsules significantly improved the electrical branch resistance of epoxy resin cured products, and this provides a new approach for extensive applications of epoxy resin insulation materials and safe and stable operation of power equipment.
