      • A Novel Adaptive Load Shedding Scheme for Data Stream Processing

        In this paper, we present a novel feedback control-based load shedding scheme for data stream processing. Firstly we apply system identification to establish a dynamic model to describe data stream management system (DSMS), which enables us to analyze DSMS quantitatively. Then, based on the model, we use the Root Locus method to design the PI controller with proven performance guarantees. Theoretic analysis and experimental results demonstrate that our approach is robust even when system load changes frequently. Comparing to existing strategies, our approach also achieves significantly better performance.

        Nitrogen metabolism and mammary gland amino acid utilization in lactating dairy cows with different residual feed intake

        Objective: This study was conducted to enhance our understanding of nitrogen (N) metabolism and mammary amino acid (AA) utilization in lactating cows with divergent phenotypes of residual feed intake (RFI). Methods: Fifty-three multiparous mid-lactation Holstein dairy cows were selected for RFI measurements over a 50-d experimental period. The 26 cows with the most extreme RFI values were classified into the high RFI (n = 13) and low RFI (n = 13) groups, respectively, for analysis of N metabolism and AA utilization. Results: Compared with the high RFI cows, the low RFI animals had lower dry matter intake (p<0.01) with no difference observed in milk yield between the two groups (p>0.10). However, higher ratios of milk yield to dry matter intake (p<0.01) were found in the low RFI cows than in the high RFI cows. The low RFI cows had significant greater ratios of milk protein to metabolizable protein (p = 0.02) and milk protein to crude protein intake than the high RFI cows (p = 0.01). The arterial concentration and mammary uptake of essential AA (p<0.10), branched-chain AA (p<0.10), and total AA (p<0.10) tended to be lower in the low RFI cows. Additionally, the low RFI cows tended to have a lower ratio of AA uptake to milk output for essential AA (p = 0.08), branched-chain AA (p = 0.07) and total AA (p = 0.09) than the high RFI cows. Conclusion: In summary, both utilization of metabolizable protein for milk protein and mammary AA utilization are more efficient in cows with lower RFI than in the high RFI cows. Our results provide new insight into the protein metabolic processes (related to N and AA) involved in feed efficiency.

        초등학교 음악 교과용 도서에 제시된 국악 가창 교수ㆍ학습 방법의 유형 분석

        본 연구는 국악 가창 교수·학습 방법의 유형을 분석하는 기준을 마련하고 초등학교 음악 교과서와 지도서에 제시된 국악 가창 교수ㆍ학습 방법을 분석함으로써 문제점을 파악하고 이를 바탕으로 개선 방안을 제시하는데 목적을 두었다. 고찰 결과 국악 가창 교수·학습 방법은 단일 활동 유형 13개, 통합 활동 유형 5개가 있었다. 초등학교 3~4학년 음악 교과용 도서에서는 13개의 유형이 적용되고 있었다. 전래동요는 구전심수법, 신체동작 활용법, 정간보 활용법, 놀이 통합 학습법, 창작 통합 학습법을 모든 교과서에서 적용하고 있었고, 민요는 구전심수법, 손시김 활용법, 놀이 통합 학습법을 모든 교과서에서 적용하고 있었다. 초등학교 5~6학년 음악교과용 도서에서는 15개의 유형이 적용되고 있었다. 전래동요는 총 18개의 유형 중 10개, 민요는 13개, 국악창작 동요는 10개, 시조는 7개, 판소리와 병창 등의 제재곡은 3개의 유형이 교과용 도서에 적용되고 있었다. 초등학교 음악 교과용 도서에서는 다양한 국악 가창 교수·학습 방법을 활용하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 분석 결과를 토대로 초등학교 국악 가창 교수·학습 방법의 문제점과 그에 따른 개선 방안을 제언하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 음악 교과용 도서에서의 다양한 국악 가창 교수·학습 방법의 활용성을 높여야 한다. 둘째, 현장 교사들이 국악 가창 교수·학습 방법별 단계를 설정하거나 학년군별 중점을 두어서 활용할 수 있도록 연구가 이루어져야 한다. 셋째, 음악 교과용 도서에는 부분 활용법이나 가창 방식 활용법과 같이 국악의 특징을 반영하여 옛 명인들이 실제로 노래를 배우던 방법 등을 적극적으로 제시하여 학생들이 국악의 특징을 체득할 수 있도록 해야 한다. 그래서 국악 교수·학습 방법의 이론을 수립하여 국악 교육 방법론의 이론적 토대를 마련하고 향후 개발되는 음악 교과용 도서에 다양한 국악 교수·학습 방법이 적용되기를 기대한다. The purpose of this study was to establish standards for analyzing the types of Korean music singers teaching and learning methods and analyse the Korean music singers teaching and learning methods presented in elementary school music textbooks and guides books to identify problems and suggest improvement measures based on them. There were 13 single types of activities and 5 integrated types of activities for teaching and learning Korean music. 13 types were applied to music curriculum books for 3rd and 4th graders in elementary school. Traditional children's songs were applied in all textbooks, including the oral core method, physical motion utilization method, Jeongganbo utilization, integrated play learning method, and creative integrated learning, while folk songs were applied in all textbooks to the oral core method, the use of hand gestures, and the integrated play learning method. 15 types were applied to music curriculum books for 5th and 6th graders in elementary school. Of the 18 types of traditional children's songs, 10 were folk songs, 13 were folk songs, 10 were Korean music creative children's songs, 7 were sijo, and 3 were applied to textbooks. It was confirmed that various Korean music singers teaching and learning methods were used in elementary school music textbooks. Based on the analysis results, the problems of the method of teaching and learning Korean music at elementary schools and the improvement plan accordingly are as follows. First, the utilization of various methods of teaching and learning Korean music in music curriculum books should be enhanced. Second, research should be conducted so that teachers can set steps for each method of teaching and learning Korean music or focus on each grade group. Third, music textbooks should actively present the characteristics of Korean music, such as how to use it partially or how to use the singing method, so that students can learn the characteristics of Korean music by reflecting the characteristics of Korean music. Therefore, it is hoped that various methods of teaching and learning Korean music will be applied to music textbooks that will be developed in the future by establishing a theory of methods for teaching and learning Korean music.

        Construction of Structured q-ary LDPC Codes over Small Fields Using Sliding-Window Method

        In this paper, we consider the construction of cyclicand quasi-cyclic structured q-ary low-density parity-check (LDPC)codes over a designated small field. The construction is performedwith a pre-defined sliding-window, which actually executes the regularmapping from original field to the targeted field under certainparameters. Compared to the original codes, the new constructedcodes can provide better flexibility in choice of code rate, codelength and size of field. The constructed codes over small fields withcode length from tenths to hundreds perform well with q-ary sumproductdecoding algorithm (QSPA) over the additive white Gaussiannoise channel and are comparable to the improved spherepackingbound. These codes may found applications in wirelesssensor networks (WSN), where the delay and energy are extremelyconstrained.

        Constructing Negative Links from Multi-facet of Social Media

        Various types of social media make the people share their personal experience in different ways. In some social networking sites. Some users post their reviews, some users can support these reviews with comments, and some users just rate the reviews as kind of support or not. Unfortunately, there is rare explicit negative comments towards other reviews. This means if there is a link between two users, it must be positive link. Apparently, the negative link is invisible in these social network. Or in other word, the negative links are redundant to positive links. In this work, we first discuss the feature extraction from social media data and propose new method to compute the distance between each pair of comments or reviews on social media. Then we investigate whether we can predict negative links via regression analysis when only positive links are manifested from social media data. In particular, we provide a principled way to mathematically incorporate multi-facet data in a novel framework, Constructing Negative Links, CsNL to predict negative links for discovering the hidden information. Additionally, we investigate the ways of solution to general negative link predication problems with CsNL and its extension. Experiments are performed on real-world data and results show that negative links is predictable with multi-facet of social media data by the proposed framework CsNL. Essentially, high prediction accuracy suggests that negative links are redundant to positive links. Further experiments are performed to evaluate coefficients on different kernels. The results show that user generated content dominates the prediction performance of CsNL.

        Musculoskeletal Model for Assessing Firefighters' Internal Forces and Occupational Musculoskeletal Disorders During Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus Carriage

        Background: Firefighters are required to carry self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), which increases the risk of musculoskeletal disorders. This study assessed the newly recruited firefighters' internal forces and potential musculoskeletal disorders when carrying SCBA. The effects of SCBA strap lengths were also evaluated. Methods: Kinematic parameters of twelve male subjects running in a control condition with no SCBA equipped and three varying-strapped SCBAs were measured using 3D inertial motion capture. Subsequently, motion data and predicted ground reaction force were inputted for subject-specific musculoskeletal modeling to estimate joint and muscle forces. Results: The knee was exposed to the highest internal force when carrying SCBA, followed by the rectus femoris and hip, while the shoulder had the lowest force compared to the no-SCBA condition. Our model also revealed that adjusting SCBA straps length was an efficient strategy to influence the force that occurred at the lumbar spine, hip, and knee regions. Grey relation analysis indicated that the deviation of the center of mass, step length, and knee flexion-extension angle could be used as the predictor of musculoskeletal disorders. Conclusion: The finding suggested that the training of the newly recruits focuses on the coordinated movement of muscle and joints in the lower limb. The strap lengths around 98-105 cm were also recommended. The findings are expected to provide injury interventions to enhance the occupational health and safety of the newly recruited firefighters.
