This is an observation of the possible Westward penetration of Sagae-Ch'ibu-bo ̄p, which is the Korea original four joint dovetails accounting or four-element bookkeeping method. As the special featues of the double-entry bookkeeping, when we say 'double' it does not mean the formal or superficial duality, but it gives a real meaning in recognizing and grasping the things from the two sides. That is in common with the idea of the Oriental cosmic dual principles better known as the Yin and Yang. In the early publications of the Western double-entry bookkeeping, the four joint dovetails like the four factors, ie., the payer, the receiver, the goods given and taken were emphasized as the four inseparable and indispensable major points in the accounting records. In the Western double-entry bookkeeping, for its speial circumstances, they use the terminologies of credit and debit (Cr. & Dr.) as a changed form, but the Sagae-Ch'ibu-bo ̄p, using 'in' and 'out', may be called a model pattern of the double-entry bookkeeping. If we say either one side of the Eastern and Western bookkeepings was possibly propagated to the other in an interval of 200 years, it can be thought that it flowed from the East to the West, because the Eastern Sagae-Ch'ibu-bo ̄p preceded that of the Western time, and in form itself it is the original pattern of the double-entry bookkeeping, and moreover, at least until the 15th century the Occidentals were in a posture of learning the Oriental and the Islam cultures. This fact was also vividly reflected in "Marco Polo's Travels" and in the book "Francesco Balbucci Pegolotti's Practica Della Mercatura," written by an Italian Merchant in the 1330's and recently known to us. The world's three great inventions-gunpower, paper, compass plus the printing art, keramics and the cosmic duality (Yin and Yang) were introduced from the East to the West by the Arabians. In early 11th century the Arabian mercantile fleet navigated to our country and after-wards many Arabians visited Koryo ̄ to be naturalized and to settle down. Therefore, while there is no definite evidence, if the Sagae-Ch'iu-bo ̄p was introduced into the West, we may easily guess that the Arabians acted as the go-between.

The results are as followings; 1) As to the satisfaction of marital relation, the attitude about the importance of sexual life, and the anticipation about the sex before marriage which are the factors operating on the sexual life of marital relation, the unsatisfaction of wives is shown in higher degree than that of husbands. 2) The reason for the unsatisfaction of wives is interpreted under the followings. Psychoanalytically, woman has complicated process of dissolution of Oedipus complex and the unconscious drive wish to have an achievement about the passive attitude. Psychosocially, woman has much more role conflict and disadventages of sexuality under the double concepts of social value system.
東西洋 簿記法의 比較硏究 : 四介治簿法과 東洋思想 Korean Four-Elment Bookkeeping Method
尹根鎬 단국대학교 1977 論文集 Vol.11 No.-
Neither the duality of forms nor the equilibruim of effect is characteristic of double-entry bookkeeping, in spite of the implication of the world "double". But the "four-element" in the original Korean bookkeeping method, could be the characteristic of double entry bookkeeping, it is thought. In the four-element bookkeeping method, all records are kept by nothing the coming and going of commodities. In the records are two parties-the giving person and the receiving person, and two things what are given and received. These four elements are essential factors to the record, hence the name, which looks upon everything from the view point of relatively as reciprocal objects of the record. Four-element bookkeeping employs the method of personification of all accounts by using the character "Fil" to keep records of transactions as if they are performed by two pwesons. The persons are represented by a subject, the facts of giving and receiving by a verb, and the things given and received by an object in Chinese characters. Originally, the Chineae ideograms came from hieroglyphs, so one character is good enough in the description of facts of giving and receiving, and it can be a symbol to simplify the complicated process. As compared to Western double-entry bookkeeping, which records present transactions as credit and debit in the future, four-element bookkeeping makes its entry easier with the records of present facts to show the debtor and creditor relationships payable and receivable for the future also. In this respect, four-element bookkeeping is simpler than Western double-entry bookkeeping from its starting point. The description of present facts to show the debtor and creditor relationships for the future is based upon the idea of changes and circulation in Oriental philosophy. It is considered that the difference of bookkeeping between the East and the West is caused by the way of thinking and the economic conditions of the East and the West. That is, one settled down on land as an agricultural people, and the other moved about in search of water and plants as a nomadic people. The accounts of profit and loss are the records of things received and given, but no one has claim and obligation to reimburse and that recover for. Therefore, the accounts are transferred to the proprietor's account. Its theory is simple and clear. Finally, the four-element bookkeeping which is deeply rooted in Oriental philosophy was not created in China, but in Korea, where the philosophy was imported from China. It is considered that the reason might be Korean's integrity in the absorption of orthodox Chinese philosoply.
