      • A Study of Operation Mode in Cross-Border Mini E-Commerce Auto Parts Industry

        With the development of cross-border mini E-commerce in auto parts industry,the traditional operation model has not satisfied the demand of modern e-commerce completely. In this paper, the evaluation model based on analytic hierarchy process has been proposed which include the factors of evaluation model, standards, indexes and weighs. After the model forming process, the calculation method for the comprehensive evaluation score has been described. At last, we used the model to assess a real cross-board auto parts retail enterprise, the ECI score of the enterprise is 77.93, and we put forward two specific suggestions to the enterprise for the operation mode improvement.

        Ginseng berry polysaccharides on infl ammation-associated colon cancer: inhibiting T-cell differentiation, promoting apoptosis, and enhancing the effects of 5-fl uorouracil

        Background: Ginseng is a commonly used herbal medicine in treating various medical conditions. Chronic gut inflammation is a recognized factor for the development of colorectal cancer (CRC). In thisproject, Asian ginseng berry polysaccharide preparations were used to assess their effects on CRC andrelated immune regulation mechanisms. Methods: Ginseng berry polysaccharide extract (GBPE) and purified ginseng berry polysaccharideportion (GBPP) were used to evaluate their activities on human HCT-116 and HT-29 CRC cell proliferation. Interleukin-8 secretion analysis was performed on HT-29 cells. Naive CD4 cell isolation and T-helper celldifferentiation were performed and determined using flow cytometry for Th1 and Treg in addition to cellcycle and apoptotic investigation. Results: GBPE and GBPP significantly inhibited interleukin-8 secretion and cancer cell proliferation,inhibited CD4þIFN-gþ cell (Th1) differentiation, and decreased CD4þFoxP3þ cell (Treg) differentiation. Compared to the GBPE, GBPP showed more potent antiinflammatory activities on the malignant cells. This is consistent with the observation that GBPP can also inhibit Th1-cell differentiation better, suggestingthat it has an important role in antiinflammation, whereas Treg cells hinder the body’s immuneresponse against malignancies. Supported by cell cycle and apoptosis data, GBPE and GBPP, at variousdegrees, remarkably enhanced the anticancer activities of 5-fluorouracil. Conclusion: Data from this project suggested that Asian ginseng berry potentially has clinical utility inmanaging enteric inflammation and suppressing CRC through immunomodulation mechanisms.

        Simulating Strength Parameters and Size Effect of Stochastic Jointed Rock Mass using DEM Method

        The strength parameters and the size effect of stochastic jointed limestone rock mass is investigated in this paper. Based on extensive statistics of joint parameters of rock mass in the research region, the probable distribution of geometric characteristic parameters of discontinuities are obtained by the probability graph method. Then the Monte-Carlo method is used for discontinuities network modeling. In addition, 3DEC software and its built-in FISH programming language are used to establish the stochastic jointed rock mass network model based on discrete element method. Triaxial numerical simulation tests under variable confining pressure are conducted with different model sizes and dip angles of bedding planes. The numerical simulation results indicate that the jointed rock mass exhibits weak anisotropy property and significant size effect when it is cut by stochastic discontinuities; the mechanical strength parameters of rock mass begins to fluctuate distinctly as the model size increases, and tend to be stable once the model size reaches or exceeds 4 m × 4 m × 8 m. Besides, the comprehensive mechanical parameters of rock mass in the research region are determined and failure modes of rock mass are analyzed as well based on the numerical simulation results.

        Chemical and Pharmacological Studies of Saponins with a Focus on American Ginseng

        Asian ginseng (Panax ginseng) and American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius L.) are the two most recognized ginseng botanicals. It is believed that the ginseng saponins called ginsenosides are the major active constituents in both ginsengs. Although American ginseng is not as extensively studied as Asian ginseng, it is one of the best selling herbs in the US, and has garnered increasing attention from scientists in recent years. In this article, after a brief introduction of the distribution and cultivation of American ginseng, we discuss chemical analysis of saponins from these two ginsengs, i.e., their similarities and differences. Subsequently, we review pharmacological effects of the saponins, including the effects on the cardiovascular system, immune system, and central nervous system as well as the anti-diabetes and anti-cancer effects. These investigations were mainly derived from American ginseng studies. We also discuss evidence suggesting that chemical modifications of ginseng saponins would be a valuable approach to develop novel compounds in drug discovery.

        Artemongolins A–K, undescribed germacrane-guaiane sesquiterpenoid dimers from Artemisia mongolica and their antihepatoma activities

        Artemongolins A–K (1–11), which are undescribed sesquiterpenoid dimers, were obtained from Artemisia mongolica and characterized through comprehensive spectral data, including HRESIMS, IR, 1D and 2D NMR, and ECD calculations. The absolute configurations of compounds 1, 4, and 7 were undoubtedly determined by a single-crystal X-ray crystallography. Artemongolins A–K (1–11) featured a rare 5/7/5/5/5/10 hexacyclic system composed of a germacrene and a guaianolide by a fused 2-oxaspiro[4,4]nonane-1-one ring system. Antihepatoma evaluation against three human hepatoma cell lines demonstrated that the most active compounds 5 and 6 displayed inhibitory activity with IC50 values of 88.6 and 57.0 (HepG2), 59.1 and 26.4 (Huh7), and 67.5 and 32.5 (SK-Hep-1) µM, respectively.

        Investigation of Low-Frequency Characteristics of Four-Switch Three-Phase Inverter

        The low-frequency characteristics of four-switch three-phase (FSTP) inverter are investigated in this paper. Firstly, a general space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) directly involved the neutral point voltage of DC-link is proposed, where no sector identifications and trigonometric function calculations are needed. Subsequently, to suppress the DC offset in the neutral point voltage, the relationship between the neutral point voltage and the ${\beta}-axis$ component of the load current is derived, and then a new neutral point voltage control scheme is proposed where no low pass filter is adopted. Finally, the relationship between the load power factor and the maximum linear modulation index of the FSTP inverter is revealed. Since the operational region for the FSTP inverter in low frequency is reduced by the enlarged amplitude of the neutral point voltage, a linear modulation range enlargement scheme is proposed. A permanent magnet synchronous motor with preset rotary speed serves as the low-frequency load of the FSTP inverter. Experimental results verify that the new neutral point voltage control scheme is effective in the deviation suppression of the neutral point voltage, and the proposed scheme is able to provide a larger linear operational region in low frequency.

        Single Nanorod Devices for Battery Diagnostics: A Case Study on LiMn<sub>2</sub>O<sub>4</sub>

        <P>This paper presents single nanostructure devices as a powerful new diagnostic tool for batteries with LiMn<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> nanorod materials as an example. LiMn<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> and Al-doped LiMn<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> nanorods were synthesized by a two-step method that combines hydrothermal synthesis of β-MnO<SUB>2</SUB> nanorods and a solid state reaction to convert them to LiMn<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> nanorods. λ-MnO<SUB>2</SUB> nanorods were also prepared by acid treatment of LiMn<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> nanorods. The effect of electrolyte etching on these LiMn<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB>-related nanorods is investigated by both SEM and single-nanorod transport measurement, and this is the first time that the transport properties of this material have been studied at the level of an individual single-crystalline particle. Experiments show that Al dopants reduce the dissolution of Mn<SUP>3+</SUP> ions significantly and make the LiAl<SUB>0.1</SUB>Mn<SUB>1.9</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> nanorods much more stable than LiMn<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> against electrolyte etching, which is reflected by the magnification of both size shrinkage and conductance decrease. These results correlate well with the better cycling performance of Al-doped LiMn<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> in our Li-ion battery tests: LiAl<SUB>0.1</SUB>Mn<SUB>1.9</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> nanorods achieve 96% capacity retention after 100 cycles at 1C rate at room temperature, and 80% at 60 °C, whereas LiMn<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> shows worse retention of 91% at room temperature, and 69% at 60 °C. Moreover, temperature-dependent <I>I</I>−<I>V</I> measurements indicate that the sharp electronic resistance increase due to charge ordering transition at 290 K does not appear in our LiMn<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>4</SUB> nanorod samples, suggesting good battery performance at low temperature.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/nalefd/2009/nalefd.2009.9.issue-12/nl902315u/production/images/medium/nl-2009-02315u_0006.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/nl902315u'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

        Simulation of Tensile Cracking in Earth Structures with an Adaptive RPIM-FEM Coupled Method

        The safety issues of geotechnical structures are often related to tension-induced cracking of geomaterials. Conventional finite element analysis often experiences difficulties in re-meshing and adaptively analyzing the crack propagation region. In this work, the Radial Point Interpolation Method (RPIM) is adaptively coupled with the Finite Element Method (FEM) to simulate tensile crack initiation and propagation in earth structures. In the algorithm, FEM mesh in identified crack regions is automatically converted to RPIM nodes and then refined for crack analysis. The behavior of soil under tension and the brittle and quasi-brittle failure types are investigated based on typical tensile test results. Especially, the crack-induced anisotropic and softening behaviors of soils are appropriately simulated using the smeared crack approach. Two types of soil cracking experiments, the four-point bending test and centrifuge model test, were conducted in the laboratory and simulated by the proposed approach. Good agreements between the simulated and experimental results have been obtained, which demonstrates the effectiveness of this coupled method for 2D and 3D simulations of tensile cracking in earth structures.

      • Inhibitory effect of Se-Yeon-Eum on nicotine- and cigarette smoke extract induced cytotoxicity in human lung fibroblast

        There are over 4,000 different chemicals in cigarette smoke, including nicotine and tar. These compounds influence on lung tissue directly or indirectly. In this study, we have examined whether an aqueous extract of Se-Yeon-Eum (SYE), composed of Oriental medicine that has been known to be effective to symptom by smoking, inhibits nicotine- or cigarette smoke extract (CSE)-induced cytotoxicity in human embryonic lung fibroblast, MRC-9. Assessment of cell viability using 3-(4,5-dimethythiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide colorimetric assay indicated that SYE inhibited not only nicotine-induced cytotoxicity but also CSE-induced cytotoxicity. These results suggest the possibility that the use of SYE may be useful for improvement of many symptoms by smoking.
