        Purpose: Many university students are under a lot of job-seeking stress because the employment rate is low. This study sought to determine the relationship between job-seeking stress, self esteem, self efficacy and appearance management behavior amongst university students focusing on nursing. Methods: This descriptive correlational study evaluated the relationships between job-seeking stress, self esteem, self efficacy and appearance management behavior of 340 university students was conducted between September 1 and October 5, 2015. Results: The correlational analysis between job-seeking stress, self esteem, self efficacy and appearance management behavior revealed a negative correlation between job-seeking stress, self esteem and self efficacy and a positive correlation between job-seeking stress and appearance management behavior. In addition, age also correlated with self esteem, self efficacy and appearance management behavior. Conclusion: Stress correlated with self esteem and self efficacy and appearance management behavior. Therefore job-seeking stress may be reduced through not only self esteem and self efficacy enhancement programs but also management according to age.

      • 자동차용 실리콘 가속도센서의 개발(Ⅱ)

        자동차의 air-bag 장치에 실용될 수 있는 압저항형 단결정 실리콘 가속도센서 칩을 개발하기 위하여 결정 실리콘 미세구조의 제조방법을 확립하고, 단위공정의 검증을 통하여 일괄공정에 의한 PROTO-TYPE 칩을 만드는 기술을 연구하였다. 단결정 실리콘 미세구조는 선택확산법을 이용하여 정확히 선택된 영역에만 air-gap을 형성하여 미세구조의 측면식각을 방지하는 선택확산법에 의한 실리콘 마이크로머시닝 기술로 제조하였다. 일괄공정을 위한 단위공정확립을 위하여 PROTY-TYPE 8빔 브릿지형 가속도 센서를 제조하였다. 제조된 칩의 가속도에 따른 출력전압은 선형성을 나타내고 있으며, 감도는 약 50 ㎶/V·g로 나타났다. 이 감도는 50G용 가속도센서의 사양을 만족하지 못했다. 이는 공정에 의한 문제라기 보다는 가속도센서의 시뮬레이션에 의해 설계한 구조가 이미 원하는 감도에 못 미친다는 것으로 생각된다. 따라서 2차 공정으로 제조될 가속도센서의 파라미터를 SuperSAP 유한요소 패키지를 이용하여 실리콘 미세구조부의 파라미터에 따른 특성을 시뮬레이션하였다. 설계된 50G용 가속도센서의 mass Pad의 반경 및 빔 길이, 빔 폭, 빔 두께, 그리고 mass의 각 파라미터 값은 700 ㎛, 120 ㎛, 5 ㎛, 1.0 ㎎ 이었다. 반도체 공정기술, 관성질량 제조법 및 선택확산을 이용한 마이크로머시닝을 사용하여 일괄공정으로 8빔 브린지형 가속도센서를 제조하였다. We researched the establishment of the silicon microstructure fabrication technique to develop a piezoresistive type silicon acceleration sensor chip and the technique to make a proto-type chip by the verification of the unit-process. Silicon microstructure is fabricated silicon micro-machining by selective diffusion method. This method prevent a side-etching of microstructure because selective diffused region is only formed an air-gap. We fabricated a proto-type 8-beam bridge-type acceleration sensor to establish the unit-process for the batch-process. The output voltage of the chip represented linearity with acceleration, and the sensitivity was about 50 ㎶/V·g. But this sensitivity dosen't satisfy the requirements of a practical acceleration sensor. The cause of this result is assumed not process problem, but the structure designed by simulation isn't suitable already. Threfore, the characteristics of parameters of the acceleration sensor that will be fabricated by 2nd-process is simulated by SuperSAP finite-element package. The determined parameter values of beam length, beam width, beam thickness, mass, and mass radius are 120 ㎛, 5 ㎛, 1.0 ㎎, and 700 ㎛, respectively. We fabricated 8-beam bridge-type acceleration sensor by batch-process using a semiconductor process technique, proof-mass fabrication method, and micromachinig using selective diffusion.

      • Meta-analysis of Associations between Interleukin-17 Gene Polymorphisms and Risk of Gastric Cancer

        Background: Previous studies have indicated that single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the interleukin-17 (IL-17) gene are associated with an increased risk of gastric cancer. However, the findings were inconsistent. Materials and Methods: To provide a more reliable estimation of the association between SNPs in the IL-17 gene and the susceptibility to gastric cancer, we searched PubMed, CNKI, and Wan Fang databases and selected finally six studies covering 2,366 cases and 3,205 controls to perform a meta-analysis. Results: Statistical analyses showed that an rs2275913 polymorphism within the IL-17A gene was significantly associated with an increased risk of gastric cancer using a generalized odds ratio (ORG, a model-free approach). Moreover, we also found that the 'A' allele carriers of IL-17A rs2275913 had a significant link with clinicopathological features. However, no significant positive signals were observed in the association analysis of the rs3748067 and rs763780 polymorphisms with the risk of gastric cancer in IL-17A and IL-17F, respectively. Conclusions: Despite some limitations, the present meta-analysis provided a more precise estimation of the relationship between the IL-17 gene SNPs and gastric cancer risk compared with individual studies.

        Adherence to Cancer Prevention Guidelines and Endometrial Cancer Risk: Evidence from a Systematic Review and Dose-Response Meta-analysis of Prospective Studies

        Purpose The evidence of adherence to cancer prevention guidelines and endometrial cancer (EC) risk has been limited and controversial. This study summarizes and quantifies the relationship between adherence to cancer prevention guidelines and EC risk. Materials and Methods The online databases PubMed, Web of Science, and EMBASE were searched for relevant publications up to June 2, 2020. This study had been registered at PROSPERO. The registration number is CRD42020149966. Study quality evaluation was performed based on the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. The I2 statistic was used to estimate heterogeneity among studies. Egger’s and Begg’s tests assessed potential publication bias. Summary hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confi dence intervals (CIs) for the relationship between adherence to cancer prevention guidelines score was assigned to participants by summarizing individual scores for each lifestyle-related factor. The scores ranged from least healthy (0) to most healthy (20) and the EC risk was calculated using a random-effects model. Results Five prospective studies (four cohort studies and one case‑cohort study) consisted of 4,470 EC cases, where 597,047 participants were included. Four studies had a low bias risk and one study had a high bias risk. Summary EC HR for the highest vs. lowest score of adherence to cancer prevention guidelines was 0.54 (95% CI, 0.40 to 0.73) and had a high heterogeneity (I2=86.1%). For the dose-response analysis, an increment of 1 significantly reduced the risk of EC by 6%. No signifi cant publication bias was detected. Conclusion This study suggested that adherence to cancer prevention guidelines was negatively related to EC risk.

        This paper examines some syntactic and semantic properties of the negative construction V+bo NP (VbN) in Taiwanese Southern Min (TSM). It finds out that there are ambiguities between an episode reading and a generic reading in VbN construction which require further investigations and explanations. Therefore, the goal of this paper is to account for the ambiguities lying in the negative VbN construction.

        Effects of Benzoic Acid and Thymol on Growth Performance and Gut Characteristics of Weaned Piglets

        A total of 144 weaned crossed pigs were used in a 42-d trial to explore the effects of different concentrations/ combinations of benzoic acid and thymol on growth performance and gut characteristics in weaned pigs. Pigs were randomly allotted to 4 dietary treatments: i) control (C), basal diet, ii) C+1,000 mg/kg benzoic acid+100 mg/kg thymol (BT1), iii) C+1,000 mg/kg benzoic acid+200 mg/kg thymol (BT2) and, iv) C+2,000 mg/kg benzoic acid+100 mg/kg thymol (BT3). Relative to the control, pigs fed diet BT3 had lower diarrhoea score during the overall period (p<0.10) and improved feed to gain ratio between days 1 to 14 (p<0.05), which was accompanied by improved apparent total tract digestibility of ether extract, Ca and crude ash (p<0.05), and larger lipase, lactase and sucrose activities in the jejunum (p<0.05) at d 14 and d 42. Similarly, relative to the control, pigs fed diet BT3 had higher counts for Lactobacillus spp in digesta of ileum at d 14 (p<0.05), and pigs fed diets BT1, BT2, or BT3 also had higher counts of Bacillus spp in digesta of caecum at d 14 (p<0.05), and lower concentration of ammonia nitrogen in digesta of caecum at d 14 and d 42 (p<0.05). Finally, pigs fed diet BT3 had higher concentration of butyric acid in digesta of caecum at d 42 (p<0.05), and a larger villus height:crypt depth ratio in jejunum and ileum at d 14 (p<0.05) than pigs fed the control diet. In conclusion, piglets fed diet supplementation with different concentrations/combinations of benzoic acid and thymol could improve feed efficiency and diarrhoea, and improve gut microfloral composition. The combination of 2,000 mg/kg benzoic acid+100 mg/kg thymol produced better effects than other treatments in most measurements.

        Recombinant Human Thioredoxin-1 Protects Macrophages from Oxidized Low-Density Lipoprotein-Induced Foam Cell Formation and Cell Apoptosis

        Oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL)-induced macrophage foam cell formation and apoptosis play critical roles in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. Thioredoxin-1 (Trx) is an antioxidant that potently protects various cells from oxidative stress-induced cell death. However, the protective effect of Trx on ox-LDL-induced macrophage foam cell formation and apoptosis has not been studied. This study aims to investigate the effect of recombinant human Trx (rhTrx) on ox-LDL-stimulated RAW264.7 macrophages and elucidate the possible mechanisms. RhTrx significantly inhibited ox-LDL-induced cholesterol accumulation and apoptosis in RAW264.7 macrophages. RhTrx also suppressed the ox-LDL-induced overproduction of lectin-like oxidized LDL receptor (LOX- 1), Bax and activated caspase-3, but it increased the expression of Bcl-2. In addition, rhTrx markedly inhibited the ox-LDL-induced production of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) and phosphorylation of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK). Furthermore, anisomycin (a p38 MAPK activator) abolished the protective effect of rhTrx on ox-LDL-stimulated RAW264.7 cells, and SB203580 (a p38 MAPK inhibitor) exerted a similar effect as rhTrx. Collectively, these findings indicate that rhTrx suppresses ox-LDL-stimulated foam cell formation and macrophage apoptosis by inhibiting ROS generation, p38 MAPK activation and LOX-1 expression. Therefore, we propose that rhTrx has therapeutic potential in the prevention and treatment of atherosclerosis.

        Vibrio vulnificus Metalloprotease VvpE has no Direct Effect on Iron-uptake from Human Hemoglobin

        This study was designed to determine whether or not Vibrio vulnificus metalloprotease VvpE can promote iron uptake via the proteolytic cleavage of human hemoglobin. We found that V. vulnificus utilized hemoglobin as an iron source more efficiently via the vulnibactin-mediated iron-uptake system than via the HupA-mediated iron-uptake system and, of the proteases produced by V. vulnificus, VvpE was found to be the only protease capable of destroying hemoglobin. However, VvpE expression, on both the transcriptional and protein levels, was suppressed in iron-limited media. However, vvpE transcription, but not extracellular VvpE production, was reactivated by the addition of hemoglobin or inorganic iron into iron-limited media. Moreover, vvpE transcription began only in the late growth phase when V. vulnificus had already consumed most of the iron for growth. In addition, neither vvpE mutation nor in trans vvpE complementation affected the ability of V. vulnificus to acquire iron or to grow in iron-limited media or in cirrhotic ascites containing hemoglobin. Hemoglobin added into iron-limited media was not destroyed, but gradually formed an insoluble aggregate during culture; this aggregation of hemoglobin occurred regardless of vvpE mutation or complementation. These results indicate that VvpE is not required for efficient iron uptake from hemoglobin. On the contrary, hemoglobin or iron is required for efficient vvpE transcription. In addition, a discrepancy exists between vvpE transcription and extracellular VvpE production in iron-limited media containing inorganic iron or hemoglobin, which suggests that additional unknown posttranscriptional events may be involved in the extracellular production of VvpE.
