        내부자, 중간자, 외부자: 스페인 내전의 트라우마와 치유를 재현하는 세 방향의 시선 - 『나다』, 『카탈로니아 찬가』, 『누구를 위하여 종은 울리나』를 중심으로 -

        In this study, I primarily aim to approach the symptoms of trauma caused by the Spanish Civil War experience depicted in three volumes of postwar literature; Nada by Carmen Laforet, Homage to Catalonia by George Orwell, and For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway. Thus three authors come from different nations ─one native Spanish, others English and American, and therefore foreigners in Spain─, with different gender, and hence their memories and perspectives on the war may differ in broad terms. Nevertheless, these writers did recreate psychological aftermath due to the war in their literary works in equal. Since thus works set trauma as one of their main themes, I also target to examine the possibility of recovery and how it occurs in each composition. Through the aforementioned comparative investigation concerning the literary works from writers of distant standings, I anticipate reconstructing the post-Spanish Civil War memory and trauma, and reach the bottom of the essence of violence, and at last, explore the possibility of recovery of the victims exposed to the extreme extent of violence.

        아이러니한 공존, 그리고 그 분열: 달리, 가르시아 로르카, 「성 세바스티안」

        본 연구는 살바도르 달리(Salvador Dalí)가 ‘초현실주의자’로 거듭나기 이전에 거친 단계를 추적하여, 그 예술 세계의 이론적, 사상적 기반이 형성된 과정을 탐구하는 데에 목표를 둔다. 이러한 목표를 달성하기 위해 본 연구가 중점적으로 조명할 시기적 범위는 달리가 마드리드 학생 기숙사에서 안달루시아 출신의 시인 페데리코 가르시아 로르카(Federico García Lorca)와 가장 활발하게 교류하였던 1926년부터 1929년까지로 한정하며, 이 시기를 달리의 ‘로르카 시기’로 정의하였다. ‘로르카 시기’라는 표현이 함의하듯 달리가 자신만의 세계를 구축함에 있어 가르시아 로르카는 지대한 영향을 미쳤다. 이 시기동안 두 예술가는 긴밀한 관계를 맺으며 각자의 방식대로 많은 작품을 남겼는데, 본고는 그 중에서도 가르시아 로르카가 달리를 위해 쓴 송가와 달리의 전기 초현실주의 회화 세 점, 그리고 에세이 「성 세바스티안」에 초점을 맞춘다. 논의의 대상이 되는 작품들은 상호간 긴밀한 관계를 맺고 있는데, 본 논문에서는 이로부터 화가와 시인의 관계를 읽어내는 동시에, 두 예술가의 작품 세계를 보다 심도 있게 이해할 수 있는 방안을 모색하였다. In this study, I aim to follow the phase that Salvador Dalí had passed before becoming a surrealist, in order to discover how the Catalonian painter constructed his fundamental bases, both theoretic and ideologic of his artworks. The period that I mainly focus is termed as ‘Lorcaen period’(Época lorquiana, 1926-1929). As we can see from the adjective ‘Lorcaen’(Lorquiano/a), the Andalusian poet Federico García Lorca influenced the painter immensely throughout their early years. Both artists frequently communicated in this period with their creations of art ―García Lorca by his poems and Dalí by his paintings―, but among them, I mainly focus on three pieces of works: an ode for Dalí written by García Lorca, three Dalinian artworks which I define as ‘proto-surrealist trilogy’ and “Sant Sebastià”, an essay written by Dalí. Through the investigation on the interaction between thus works of art, this paper not only interpret the personal relationship of the poet and the painter, but also approach in depth to both artists’ universe of creation.

        수어연극의 미학적 윤리적 딜레마 -미국 국립농인극단(National Theatre of the Deaf)을 중심으로-

        본고는 미국의 ‘국립농인극단(National Theatre of the Deaf)’을 중심으로 장애학의 맥락에서 수어연극을 고찰한다. 국립농인극단은 1967년 창단된 이래 청력의 차이와 무관하게 가능한 많은 사람들이 향유할 수 있는 대중적인 공연을 창작하는 전문적인 직업극단을 지향하며, 수어와 음성언어를 혼용하는 이중언어극의 형식을 발전시켰다. 그러나 이 과정은 미학적 윤리적 딜레마를 노출했는데, 국립농인극단이 발전시킨 이중언어극의 형식이 수어의 예술적 잠재성을 발현하며 ‘수어사용자’로서 농인의 사회적 위상을 향상시키는데 크게 이바지했으나, 다수의 청인관객을 위한다는 명목으로 수어의 고유성을 희생하는 결과 또한 초래했기 때문이다. 다시 말해, 문화권력이 상이한 언어권 사이의 통 번역 과정에서 원문 보다 수용자를 배려하며 선택되는 번역방식, 즉 ‘자국화 번역’의 방식으로 수어의 미학화와 통역이 진행되면서 출발언어/출발문화인 수어와 농문화의 특이성은 일정 부분 망실된 것이다. 본고는 국립농인극단의 초기 공연사에서 이와 같은 역설이 발생했던 지점들을 톺아봄으로써 장애학의 관점을 바탕으로 장애를 소수자 정체성으로 접근하여 이를 무대화하고자 할 때 살펴야 하는 구체적인 지점들에 대해 질문코자 한다. This paper examines sign language theatre in the context of disability studies with a focus on the National Theatre of the Deaf in the United States. Since its foundation in 1967, the National Theatre of the Deaf(hereinafter NTD) has developed a form of bilingual language play that simultaneously uses American sign language(ASL) and English speech, aiming to create performances as accessible as possible to all people regardless of differences in hearing ability. However, this process has exposed an aesthetical and ethical dilemma; the form of bilingual theatre developed by NTD has demonstrated the artistic potential of sign language and in so doing contributed greatly to improving the social status of the deaf as ‘sign language users’, but at the same time resulted in sacrificing the uniqueness of ASL to some degree. In other words, the peculiarities of sign language and deaf culture are lost to some extent as aestheticization and translation of sign language put focus more on ‘domestication’, a translation strategy, where audience/readers with cultural power are considered more than original texts written in minority languages. This paper investigates specific moments in the NTD’s early performance history when such an irony occurred, and sought to provide specific factors which need to be considered when attempting to stage disability as a minority identity, as suggested by recent disability studies.

        아브젝트에 내포된 양가성 : 마샤 노만의 Getting Out을 중심으로

        I intend to analyze a work by a feminist playwright, Marsha Norman’s Getting Out through the concept of ‘abject’. According to Kristeva, an abject object poses a threat to the existence of a subject and it is to be detested and denied. The female heroine, Arlene who has been captured by abjection, views herself as insignificant as a result of bleak memories from the past. Also, she is unable to express her sufferings as a result of her mother's parenting. For that reason, Arlie transforms into a more threatening woman in order to protect herself from the terrorizing authority of the patriarchal system. After that, Arlie’s subject only has the meaning of absolute evil. Upon realizing that she has existed as a social abject, Arlie chooses to self-destruct by passing on the place of subject to Arlene. However, fluid characteristics of the abject that hover between the boundaries help her to acknowledge herself as changeable subject. What Arlene desperately wanted to escape from was the semiotics that the patriarchal system has created, ‘abject women’. Thus, if she tries to find meaning in her own existence from the process, the abject created in the process of the subjects splitting will become a drive toward a better life and guidelines for the future.

      • Examination of Two Decades in Used Clothing Trade: The Case of the United States and Selected Developed Economies

        This research examined two decades of the U.S. used clothing exports to the world. All countries (209) were classified into four groups based on the level of economic development. Between 1996 and 2012, U.S. used clothing exports shifted away from low-income economies to high-income economies. For the first time, our research demonstrated that the majority of used clothing discarded by American consumers is exported to high-income economies instead of poorest nations of the world. Next, used clothing exports and imports by volume and value in seven high-income countries were analyzed. The high-income countries not only exported but also imported significant amount of used clothing, which indicates a growing demand for worn apparel in developed nations. The demand might be at least partially attributed to the popular vintage clothing trend and increasing consumer environmentalism. Implications regarding development and implementation of a new classification system of worn clothing and recommendations for future research are presented.

        Effect of different immediate dentin sealing techniques on the microtensile bond strength

        This study aimed to compare the effects of different immediate dentin sealing techniques on the bond strength using Optibond FL® (Kerr, USA) as a dentin sealing agent and to analyze their influences on the bonding performance. Twelve caries-free extracted human molars were used. The experimental groups were categorized according to the dentin sealing methods as follows: Immediate Dentin Sealing with Optibond FL® (IDS with OF), Immediate Dentin Sealing with Optibond FL® and Tetric Flow® (IDS with OF + TF), and Delayed Dentin Sealing (DDS). Direct composite restoration was carried out in the control group. After preparing each group with use of different processes, all specimens were subjected to microtensile bond strength testing, and the data were statistically analyzed. A combination of Optibond FL® and Tetric Flow® showed significantly higher bond strength compared with single use of Optibond FL® in the IDS groups. The DDS group showed statistically lowest mean microtensile bond strength. The direct composite group showed statistically higher bond strength than the IDS group using Optibond FL® alone, but there was no significant difference between the direct composite group and the IDS group using Optibond FL® and Tetric Flow®. Compared to the immediate dentin sealing technique using a dentin sealing agent alone, the technique consisting of a dentin sealing agent and a flowable resin composite may improve dentin bond strength, minimize patient discomfort, and consequently have a positive influence on the long-term survival of indirect bonded restorations.
