It was attempted to elucidate the selective associational properties of nucleic acid bases with peptides by use of spectroscopic tools. Monopeptide and dipeptide models interact with uracil through two hydrogen bond bridges. The addition of peptidyl group produces the binding with guanosine derivative, while monopeptide cannot interact. Adenine and uracil derivatives associate with glutamic acid much more strongly than any other amino acids. In the case of guanosine, it is conspicuous that glutamine can uniquely interact with it. These results might give the information on the interaction between peptide and nucleic acid.

The biofilm system in Rotating Biological Contactors (RBCs) consists of thebiofilm, an attached-water film, and the air phase during the rotation through the air. It consists of the biofilm, a diffusion layer, and bulk water during the rotation through the water. This paper deals with experimental investiqations to determine the diffusion layer thickness and measure the biofilm properties, such as the biofilm thickness, biofilm density, and intrinsic reaction rates within the biofilm. The biofilm. The following results were obtained: Diffusion layer thickness was inversely proportional to the root of the disk rotating speed, but was not a function of disk size, if the flow near the disk surface was laminar. It was also influenced by the subumerged ratio of the disk and protrusions of the disk surface. The measurement of biofilm properties snowed that a biofilm treating domestics sewage was divided into three parts depending on its density. Hower, intrinsic organic oxidation, nitrification, and denitrification rates per unit of the biomass were almost the same through the biofilm.
Torque Display Method for Free-Form Deformation with Haptic Device

Haptic devices provide a powerful interface that allows users to use their sense of touch to interact with 3D shapes. Even though much research has been done on haptics-based design and sculpting, less effort has been spent on applications related to torque computing and to rque-based modeling. We have constructed a 3D shape modeling and modification system based on a haptic device, with acceptable interactivity to improve intuition. Bending and twisting formulations are widely used in physical modeling and sculpting. The use of to rque-based haptic interaction for deforming and editing 3D shapes has the potential to magnify artistic intuition and creativity of designers. In this paper, we propose a torque display method for free-form deformation(FFD) with haptic device. The combination of bending and twisting extends the editing capabilities of constructed shape deformation system by means of screw-motions.
Design of a PID Flight Control System for an MAV having a Side-force Fin

This paper describes dynamic properties and a night control system of an MAY (mini aerial vehicle) hal ing a side-force fin. We are developing a nonlinear model of the MAY through flight/wind tunnel experiments and CFD anal) sis. A linear model is obtained from the current nonlinear model. Using the linear model, we have designed a !light control system (FCS) that controls the altitude, forward speed, roll angle. and heading angle with thrust. elevator. aileron. and the sideforce fin. respectively. The side-force fin produces direct side-force that achieves skid-to-turn without bank in cooperation with the aileron. The FCS is designed as a PID control system, whose gains are determined based on the integral-type optimal servo, Although the design method has theoretically not been established, it provides PID gains via a simple design procedure and its usefulness and effectiveness have been proved through various design examples, Also in this study, computer simulation and analysis demonstrate how the FCS works.
