      • Possible involvement of temperature-entrainable timing system in arrhythmic mutant flies in Drosophila melanogaster

Yoshii, Taishi,Tomioka, Kenji Korean Society of Photoscience 2002 Journal of Photosciences Vol.9 No.2

In Drosophila melanogaster, it is known that the circadian clock consists of an autoregulatory feedback loop, which includes so-called clock genes, such as per, tim, dClk and cyc and produces periodical expression of per. It is recently suggested, however, that the circadian oscillation without the rhythmical expression of per is involved in the regulation of circadian locomotor rhythms. In the present study, we examined the existence and the property of the possible per-less oscillation using arrhythmic clock mutant flies carrying per$^{01}$, tim$^{01}$, dClk$^{Jrk}$ or cyc$^{01}$. When temperature cycles consisting of 25$^{\circ}$C and 30$^{\circ}$C with varying periods (T = 8~32 hr) were given, they showed rhythms synchronizing with the given cycle under constant darkness (DD). per$^{01}$ and tim$^{01}$ flies always showed a peak around 7 hr after the onset of thermophase irrespective of Ts of temperature cycles, while dClk$^{Jrk}$ and cyc$^{01}$ flies did not. In addition, several days were necessary to establish a clear temperature entrainment in per$^{01}$ and tim$^{01}$ flies, when they were transferred from a constant temperature to a temperature cycle under DD. These results suggest that per$^{01}$ and tim$^{01}$ flies have a temperature-entrainable weak oscillatory mechanism. The fact that dClk$^{Jrk}$ and cyc$^{01}$ flies did not show any sign of the endogenous oscillation suggests that the per-less oscillatory mechanism may require CLK and CYC.

Rheumatoid arthritis in tight disease control is no longer risk of bone mineral density loss

        Ichiro Yoshii,Tatsumi Chijiwa,Naoya Sawada 대한골다공증학회 2020 Osteoporosis and Sarcopenia Vol.6 No.2

Objectives: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an independent risk factor of osteoporosis. However, if disease activity is successfully controlled using the treat-to-target (T2T) strategy, the risk of bone mineral density (BMD) loss can be diminished. We evaluated if RA is a risk factor even when the T2T is applied in clinical cases. Methods: From September 2017 to August 2019, 741 patients were examined using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry; of these, 279 were diagnosed with RA who attained clinical remission within 6 months (RA-rem) and 53 could not attain clinical remission (RA-nonrem), while 409 were not diagnosed with RA (non-RA). The following characteristics between RA-rem and non-RA were matched using the propensity score matching (PSM) technique: age, sex, past bone fragility fracture experience, osteoporosis drug intervention ratio, glucocorticoid administration ratio, mean dose, Barthel Index score, body mass index, serum-creatinine-to-cystatin C ratio, and the number of comorbidities. The BMDs and changes of the lumbar spine, femoral neck, total hip, and greater trochanter were statistically compared between the RA-rem and the non-RA after PSM, and between RA-nonrem and RA-rem after PSM using the MannWhitney U test. Results: In total, 107 patients of RA-rem and 108 of non-RA were recruited. BMDs and changes of every part demonstrated no significant differences between the 2 groups. BMDs in every part of RA-rem after PSM were significantly greater than those in every part of RA-nonrem, while no significant difference in change during follow-up. Conclusions: If disease activity is controlled in clinical remission, RA will not contribute to BMD reduction.

Pain score as a predictor of subsequent fragility fracture in postmenopausal patients with rheumatoid arthritis: A retrospective case-control study

        Ichiro Yoshii,Naoya Sawada,Tatsumi Chijiwa 대한골다공증학회 2023 Osteoporosis and Sarcopenia Vol.9 No.4

Objectives: Bone fragility fracture (BFF) is a serious incident in treating rheumatoid arthritis (RA). We hypothesized that pain degree during treatment RA correlated with incident BFF and validated how pain affects incident BFF (inc-BFF). Methods: Postmenopausal RA patients treated for at least 3 years were recruited. The primary endpoint was the development of inc-BFF. Follow-up began with the first bone mineral density measurement (baseline) and continued until the development of the first BFF or termination of the study. Clinical indicators at baseline, including pain score using a visual analog scale (PS-VAS), were analyzed statistically using Cox regression analysis, receiver operation characteristics (ROC), Kaplan-Meier survival curve analysis (K-M), and chi-square test. Results: A total of 239 patients were recruited. Using a multivariate Cox regression analysis, the baseline’s PS-VAS and prevalent BFF (pr-BFF) demonstrated significantly higher risk ratios. For ROC, pr-BFF and PS-VAS had significant cutoff index (COI) (positive, 21.0) and an area under-curve of 0.692 (P < 0.001) and 0.616 (P < 0.01), respectively. PS-VAS > COI had a 2.24-fold higher hazard ratio than PS-VAS ≤ COI using K-M. When these 2 conditions were combined, patients with pr-BFF-positive and PS-VAS-positive had a sensitivity of 42.3% and a specificity of 88.8% for the inc-BFF. PS-VAS > COI had no statistical significance in the subgroup without pr-BFF, whereas the existence of pr-BFF had a significantly higher risk ratio in the PS-VAS ≤ COI. Conclusions: The PS-VAS during RA treatment is a good indicator for predicting the inc-BFF in postmenopausal RA patients with pr-BFF.

Musculoskeletal ambulation disability symptom complex as a risk factor of incident bone fragility fracture

        Ichiro Yoshii,Tatsumi Chijiwa,Naoya Sawada,Shohei Kokei 대한골다공증학회 2021 Osteoporosis and Sarcopenia Vol.7 No.3

Objectives: Influence of presenting musculoskeletal ambulation disability symptom complex (MADS) on occurrence of bone fragility fracture (BFF) is investigated with retrospective cohort study. Methods: A total of 931 subjects joined in the study. Subjects were selected as bone fragility risk positive in the fracture assessment tool questionnaire. Their assumed risk factors were harvested from the medical records and X-ray pictures. They were followed up at least 8 years consecutively, and occurrence of incident BFF was set as primary endpoint. Each assumed risk factor including MADS was evaluated using Cox regression analysis. Subjects were divided into 2 groups according to presence of MADS (GMADS and G-noMADS). Adjusted hazard ratios between the 2 groups was evaluated using Cox regression analysis. The statistical procedures were performed before and after propensity score matching (PSM) procedures in order to make parallel with assumed risk factors. Results: Statistically significant risk factors within 5% were prevalent vertebral body fracture, disuse, MADS, cognitive disorder, hypertension, contracture, Parkinsonism, being female sex, hyperlipidemia, insomnia, T-score in the femoral neck ≤ -2.3, chronic kidney disease ≥ stage 2, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, glucocorticoid steroid administrated, and osteoarthritis in order of the adjusted hazard ratios (from highest to lowest). Adjusted hazard ratios between G-MADS and G-noMADS were 2.70 and 1.83 for before and after PSM, respectively. Conclusions: MADS demonstrated as a significant risk factor of BFF occurrence. In treating osteoporosis, fall risk should be aware of as well as bone fragility risk.

      • 일본인 연구자가 바라본 일제강점기 자료 공개사업

요시이히데오 ( Yoshii Hideo ) 국립중앙박물관 2022 고고학지 Vol.28 No.-

During the Japanese occupation period, researchers from Tokyo Imperial University and Kyoto Imperial University conducted archaeological research as part of the Joseon Historical Remains Survey Project. After the investigations, they submitted the excavated artifacts and glass plates to the Joseon Government-General Museum along with written statements. The field records, drawings, and printed photos of the investigations, on the other hand, were taken to Japan for the purpose of writing up excavation reports. After liberation, materials related to the Joseon Historical Remains Survey Project were separately housed at various institutions in Korea and Japan, acting as great obstacle to researching the results of the investigations that had taken place at the time. As part of the National Museum of Korea’s initiative to enhance public access to data obtained during the Period of Japanese Occupation, materials relating to the Joseon Historical Remains Survey Project in Japan, including Kyoto University, were introduced. As a result of reviewing the Korean and Japanese data together, new facts were revealed about the investigations of Geumgwanchong Tomb (Gŭmgwanch’ong Tomb) (Gyeongju), Hoehyeon-ri Shell Midden(Hoehyŏn-ri Shell Midden) (Gimhae), Dalseong(Dalsŏng) (Daegu), and Wolseong(Wŏlsŏng) (Gyeongju). In addition, it was pointed out that in order to reveal the overall nature of the photographs that had been taken at the time of investigation, it is necessary to compile together the dry glass plate data released by the National Museum of Korea and the printed photographs remaining in the Japanese institutions. In order to shed light on the reality of the Joseon Historical Remains Survey Project, it will be necessary to continue introducing related materials remaining in Japan and compile them with the data remaining in Korea. It is hoped that the data from both countries can be brought together online. In addition, in order to promote such a project, it will be necessary to introduce to the Japanese audience the results of the initiative to enhance public access to materials obtained during the Period of Japanese Occupation.

Background/Aims: A multifunctional snare SOUTEN has a sharp tip at the top of the snare loop that enables incision of the mucosa, dissection of the submucosal layer, and snaring of lesion. This study assessed the effcacy and safety of complete endoscopic resection ofcolorectal neoplasia using SOUTEN. Methods: We analyzed the rates of gross en bloc resection and complete resections of 108 consecutive tumors from 69 patientsresected by precutting endoscopic mucosal resection (precutting), hybrid endoscopic submucosal dissection (hybrid), or conventionalendoscopic submucosal dissection (conventional) using SOUTEN. Results: Out of the 108 tumors, 50 were resected by precutting, 27 were resected by hybrid after attempting precutting, and theremaining 31 were resected by conventional after attempting precutting and hybrid resections. The median tumor sizes were 14.5 mmfor precutting, 16.4 mm for hybrid, and 21.1 mm for conventional. The success rate of gross en bloc resection and histological completeresection were 100% and 94.0% for precutting, 96.4% and 96.4% for hybrid, and 100% and 100% for conventional method, respectively. No procedure-related complication occurred. Conclusions: By using SOUTEN, precutting and hybrid were successfully performed on 10–30 mm tumors with a shorter proceduretime than conventional without major complications.

Octave-spanning Comb with a Wide Frequency Interval of Molecular Rotational Raman Transition

        Kazumichi Yoshii,Kentaro Shiraga,Masaki Arakawa,Hiroshi Aoki,Masayuki Katsuragawa,Feng-Lei Hong 한국물리학회 2011 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.59 No.41

We present a method to generate an octave-spanning Raman comb with absolute-frequency control by locking two laser frequencies for driving the Raman comb to an optical-frequency-comb stabilized to the optical frequency standard. The carrier-envelope-offset frequencies of this Raman comb are measured by the f-2f self-referencing method. The shift of the carrier-envelope-phase of the produced pulse train is stabilized to a zero-condition by manipulating the relative frequency of driving-laser frequencies.
