Development of Knee Joint Robot for Students Becoming Therapists
Yoshie Maeda,Tatsuya Hirano,Noritaka Sato,Yoshifumi Morita,Hiroyuki Ukai,Kouji Sanaka,Keiko Takao,Ayako Satonaka 제어로봇시스템학회 2012 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2012 No.10
Students becoming physical therapists (PT) or occupational therapists (OT) cannot experience rehabilitation for actual patients’ troubles before clinical training. For this reason we have developed the knee joint robot imitating patients" troubles such as range of motion trouble, contracture, rigidity, spasticity and so on. Therefore students can experience rehabilitation for patients’ troubles virtually by using the robot. Moreover, from the standpoint of educational effect we have to develop a training program using the robot for the students to learn skilled manual therapy techniques for patients’ troubles. In this paper, we propose a training program consisting of the monitoring system, the force display system, the supervisory system and the evaluation system. Firstly, we develop monitoring function in which the graphs of robot’s angle, velocity and their appropriate values for training are displayed during training. Secondly, we develop simulation algorithms of clonus and hypertonia occurring in manual therapy. Lastly, we develop an evaluation method of manual therapy techniques for a patient with hypertonia.

This paper addresses the semantics of the present form (known as the -ru form) of activity verbs in Japanese and examines the effect of these verbs in contrast to that of the inflected form (the ta form). Garden-path sentences involving an ambiguity between a simple sentential reading and a relative clause reading generally show a preference for the former reading; when the preferred reading proves to be inconsistent with the correct reading of the sentence, the ensuing processing difficulty is known as the ‘garden-path effect.’ Interestingly, it has been observed that the effect is reduced in sentences that contain activity verbs in the present -ru form in the adnominal clause. One major problem that arises in the interpretation of the -ru form in subordinate clauses is that it is temporally ambiguous, and may be interpreted as belonging to the matrix clause instead. To date, no uniform analysis has been developed to characterize the semantic nature of the -ru form in subordinate clauses. This study will develop a semantics of the -ru form. The data revealed some interesting findings suggesting some logical characteristics of the -ru form. The results help to clarify how the semantic nature of the -ru form exerts an effect on the processing of garden path sentences, and to show that, contrary to what had been assumed in the absence of semantic research into the embedding verb, the activity verbs ending in the -ru form extend the worlds against which a given proposition is evaluated, which has the effect of reducing the GP effect.
Integration and Coordination of Early Childhood Care and Education in the Republic of Korea
Yoshie Kaga,Steven Barnett,John Bennett 육아정책연구소 2012 International Journal of Child Care and Education Vol.6 No.2
UNESCO conducted a cross-national study on the issue of integration of early childhood care and education services within education in 2008-2009. In order to have a more comprehensive understanding of the issue, UNESCO undertook a review on a parallel ECCE system in the Republic of Korea by the request of the Korean Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. In this article, an overview of the Korean ECCE system is provided with a brief appraisal of the quality of the Korean ECCE system by referring to selected quality, access and financing indicators. We highlighted positive developments of the country in recent years and discussed issues and challenges that are directly or indirectly related to integration. The challenges include demographic changes and their implications for the parallel system, and uneven qualifications, training and working conditions of childcare and kindergarten staff. Based on observations during the review visit, we analyzed several integration options and provided related policy recommendations.
The Acquisition of Functional Categories: Data from Japanese
( Yoshie Yamashita ) 한국언어정보학회 1998 국제 워크샵 Vol.1998 No.-
While demonstratives and other determiner-like words in English are part of the functional system, their Japanese counterparts are simple lexical categories. The semantic theory (e.g. Brown & Fraser 1963) predicts that these elements must emerge at a later stage in both languages since they denote relatively abstract and complex meanings; whereas Radford`s(1990) maturational theory makes no such predictions about Japanese. In replicating O`` Grady`s (1993) Korean study, I collected both production and comprehension data for Japanese. The data indicates that despite their categorial status (i.e. lexical categories), these determiner-like elements emerge quite late. Since the late emergence of these elements in both Japanese and English can be attributed to their relatively abstract semantics, there is no reason to attribute the late acquisition of English determiners to their categorial status (i.e. functional categories). Thus, just like O``Grady`s Korean data, the Japanese data seems to support the semantic theory.
