      • 고등학교 통계수업에서 줄기그림 활용에 관한 연구

        줄기그림은 새로 개발된 탐색적 자료분석의 한 방법이다. 우리들은 본 연구에서 고등학교의 통계수업에서 자료분석과 모아진 통계자료의 요약을 위한 새로운 학습보조자료로서 줄기그림을 활용을 통한 교수학습방법을 제안하고 적용하여 보았다. 줄기그림을 보조학습자료로 사용한 결과 학생들은 관찰된 자료의 구조를 쉽게 파악할 수 있었고, 보다 창조적으로 자료분석에 대한 사고의 폭을 넓힐 수 있었다. 그리고 고등학교 통계단원에서의 자료분석방법을 다루는 보조학습자료로서의 줄기그림의 활용 가능성에 대한 확인을 할 수 있었다. The stem plot is a new method of exploratory data analysis. This method is very simple and easy. In this paper we proposed the usuful method of stem plot in mathematics education at highschool and applicated to highschool students at school mathematics as a method of the statistical data analysis. According to the result of experiment for data analysis learning of observed data with the stem plot as learning aided tools, students could understand easily the structure of the observed data with the stem plot. The students could extend the width of thinking with the creative motivation. And we could confirm the possibility of application about the stem plot in highschool statistics classes.

        양로원 노인에서 인지기능 평가에 대한 연구

        The aged population is growing rapidly in Korea. In 1989, the people aged 65 and older marked 4.7% of the population and is expected to exceed 5% in 1993. It has been considered that as the elderly grow older, their cognitive function decline. As the proportion they take in the society is becoming larger, the use of more stable and reliable examination tools become more important to deal with and prevent their cognitive dysfunction. This study looked into the characteristics of cognitive functions of the elderly living in nursing homes. Mini-mental status examination and Brief cognitive rating scale were administered to 530 eldery(mean age 76±7.5) residing in 8 nursing homes located in Kyun-Gi province, vicinity of Seoul, in 1989 and in 1991. Cognitive function correlated with educational level, but not with age. The correlation of MMSE with BCRS was high. According to the results, it was not evident that aging deteriorates cognitive function. The deterioration of cognitive function was related to educational level. MMSE and BCRS were considered appropriate instruments in brief assessment of cognitive function and its prognosis in the elderly. Lengthened follow up interval and the cognitive evaluation of more various groups are desired in the future studies.

        B5-hydroxytryptamine _3수용체(5-HT_3) 길항제와 dexamethasone의 동시투여가 cis-platin에 의한 급성 구토를 막는데 가장 효과적이다. 그러나 현재까지 가장 적절한 정주dexamethasone의 용량이 알려져 있지 않았다. 이에 dexamethasone의 4가지 다른 용량을 투여하여 그 효과를 비교하였다. 환자는 임의 추출되어 cis-platin 투여 45분전에 15분 동안 정주로 각각 dexamethasone 5, 10, 15, 20 mg을 투여 받았다. cis-platin 투여 30분전에는 ondansetron 8 mg이 부가하여 정주 되었다. 1999년 3월부터 2000년 2월까지 54명의 환자가 연구에 등록되어졌고 53명의 환자가 연구 대상으로 실험에 4군 (dexamethasone 5 mg 13명, 10 mg 14명, 15 mg 13명, 20 mg 13명)으로 나뉘어 평가 되어졌다. 급성구토와 구역질의 완전한 예방은 dexamethasone 5 mg을 투여 받은 환자에서 각각 69.2%, 60.9%, dexamethasone 10 mg을 투여 환자에서 69.1%, 61%, dexamethasone 15 mg 투여 환자에서 78.5%, 66.9%, dexamethasone 20 mg을 투여 환자에서 83.2%, 71.0%로 나타났다. 구토로부터 완전한 예방은 dexamethasone 20 mg을 투여 환자에서 5, 10 mg을 투여 환자와 비교하여 높았고, dexamethasone 15 mg을 투여 군에 비교하여서는 약간 우수한 효과만 있었다. 구역질으로부터의 완전한 예방도 월등한 것은 아닐지라도 20 mg을 받은 환자에서 높았다. 항 구토 치료는 특별한 불편 없이 조절되었고, 부작용의 발생에서 4가지그룹간에는 커다란 차이가 발견되지 않았다. Dexamethasone의 20 mg 정주양이 cis-platin으로 인한 급성구토를 예방하는데 가장 효과적인 예방량으로 사료되어진다. Background and objective: A 5-hydroxytryptamine _3(5-HT_3) receptor antagonist plus dexamethasone is the most efficacious antiemetic prophylactic treatment for the prevention of cis-platin induced acute emesis, but the optimal intraveous (Ⅳ) dose of dexamethasone is unknown. This prompted us to perform a randomized, double-blind, dose-finding study that compared four different doses of dexamethasone. Materials and Methods: Patients were randomized to receive dexamethasone, either 5, 10, 15, 20 mg, administered by 15-minute Ⅳ infusion 45 minutes before cis-platin. Ondansetron 8 mg was added to dexamethasone and was administered Ⅳ 30 minutes before cis-platin. From March 1999 to February 2000, 54 patients were enrolled onto the study and 53 were assessable according to the intention-to-treat principle (13 patients received 5 mg; 14 patients, 10 mg; 13 patients, 15 mg and 13 patients, 20 mg of dexamethasone). Results: Complete protection from acute vomiting and nausea was achieved by 69.2% and 60.9% of patients, respectively, who received 5 mg of dexamethasone, by 69.1% and 61.0% of those who received 10 mg, by 78.5% and 66.9% of those who received 15 mg, and by 83.2% and 71.0% of those who received 20 mg of dexamethasone. Complete protection from vomiting was significantly superior in patients who received 20 mg compared with those who received 5 and 10 mg of dexamethasone (P<05) and was superior, but not significantly, compared with those who received 15mg. Complete protection from nausea was superior, but not significantly, in patients who received 20 mg of dekamethasone. Multifactorial analysis confirmed these results. Antiemetic treatment was well tolerated, and no significant difference was found among the four groups in the incidence of adverse events. Conclusion: A 20mg single Ⅳ dose of dexamethasone should be considered the most efficacious prophylactic dose for the prevention of ois-platin induced acute amesis in treatment of cancer.

        Acute Tubular Necrosis associated with the Ketogenic Diet in a Child with Intractable Epilepsy

        The ketogenic diet (KD) has been used as an effective antiepileptic therapy for intractable childhood epilepsy. However, various adverse effects have been reported with use of the KD. We report a case of a child who developed acute tubular necrosis subsequent to therapy with KD. A 5-year-old girl had myoclonic epilepsy with developmental delay. She was under the treatment with antiepileptic drugs since the age of 3 months and on the KD during the past 18 months. Proteinuria persisted intermittently with the initiation of the KD and subsequently increased in the past 2 months. She was admitted with intermittent mild fever, vomiting, and lethargy for the past 3-4 weeks. At the time of admission, she presented with hypertriglyceridemia, heavy proteinuria, renal Fanconi syndrome, and acute kidney injury. Renal sonography showed a marked increase in the size and parenchymal echogenicity of both kidneys. A renal biopsy revealed acute tubular necrosis accompanied by early interstitial fibrosis. After the withdrawal of the KD and supportive therapy, without changing other anticonvulsants and their dosages, improvement of renal function was observed. Proteinuria had disappeared after 1 month and kidney size returned to normal after 8 months. It is hypothesized that the KD can induce and/or aggravate the renal tubulointerstitial injury in some patients who are under the treatment with anticonvulsants.

        COF-Net on CNT-Net as a Molecularly Designed, Hierarchical Porous Chemical Trap for Polysulfides in Lithium–Sulfur Batteries

        <P>The hierarchical porous structure has garnered considerable attention as a multiscale engineering strategy to bring unforeseen synergistic effects in a vast variety of functional materials. Here, we demonstrate a 'microporous covalent organic framework (COF) net on mesoporous carbon nanotube (CNT) net' hybrid architecture as a new class of molecularly designed, hierarchical porous chemical trap for lithium polysulfides (Li2Sx) in Li-S batteries. As a proof of concept for the hybrid architecture, self-standing COF-net on CNT-net interlayers (called 'NN interlayers') are fabricated through CNT-templated in situ COF synthesis and then inserted between sulfur cathodes and separators. Two COFs with different micropore sizes (COF-1 (0.7 nm) and COF-5 (2.7 nm)) are chosen as model systems. The effects of the pore size and (boron-mediated) chemical affinity of microporous COF nets on Li2Sx adsorption phenomena are theoretically investigated through density functional theory calculations. Benefiting from the chemical/structural uniqueness, the NN interlayers effectively capture Li2Sx without impairing their ion/electron conduction. Notably, the COF-1 NN interlayer, driven by the well-designed microporous structure, allows for the selective deposition/dissolution (i.e., facile solid liquid conversion) of electrically inert Li2Sx. As a consequence, the COF-1 NN interlayer provides a significant improvement in the electrochemical performance of Li-S cells (capacity retention after 300 cycles (at charge/discharge rate = 2.0 C/2.0 C) = 84% versus 15% for a control cell with no interlayer) that lies far beyond those accessible with conventional Li-S technologies.</P>

        Quantitative Measurements of Size-Dependent Magnetoelectric Coupling in Fe<sub>3</sub>O<sub>4</sub> Nanoparticles

        <P>Bulk magnetite (Fe3O4), the loadstone used in magnetic compasses, has been known to exhibit magnetoelectric (ME) properties below similar to 10 K; however, corresponding ME effects in Fe3O4 nanoparticles have been enigmatic. We investigate quantitatively the ME coupling of spherical Fe3O4 nanoparticles with uniform diameters (d) from 3 to 15 nm embedded in an insulating host, using a sensitive ME susceptometer. The intrinsic ME susceptibility (MES) of the Fe3O4 nanoparticles is measured, exhibiting a maximum value of similar to 0.6 ps/m at 5 K for d = 15 nm. We found that the MES is reduced with reduced d but remains finite until d = nm, which is close to the critical thickness for observing the Verwey transition. Moreover, with reduced diameter the critical temperature below which the MES becomes conspicuous increased systematically from 9.8 K in the bulk to 19.7 K in the nanoparticles with d = 7 nm, reflecting the core-shell effect on the ME properties. These results point to a new pathway for investigating ME effect in various nanomaterials.</P>
