석탄에서 문화로 - 문화적 탈산업화 전략으로서 루르 산업 유산 -

이 글은 산업 유산 재활용 도시재생의 국제적 성공 모델로 주목받는 독일 서부의 옛 중공업 중심지 루르 지역을 다루며 특히 1960년대 이후 전개된 탈산업화의 문화적 전략으로서 폐산업시설이 산업 유산이 되는 과정을 탐구한다. 20세기 후반 동력원의 구조적 전환과 산업의 국제 분업으로 인한 서독의 석탄과 철강 공업의 몰락에 대해 루르 지역은 오염된 공업 지역으로부터 탈산업 자연을 갖춘 첨단 지식과 문화지역으로의 이행을 표방하는 장기적 ‘구조조정’으로 대응하였고 그 문화적 전략으로 ‘산업문화’ 실천을 수행하였다. 이 글은 이를 가능케 한 사회적 토대와 정치적 맥락으로 사민주의 정치문화에 주목하고 그 결과물인 루르 지역 산업 유산의 특징을 논한다. 이를 위해 우선 그 역사적 조건으로서 산업화 시기 루르 지역의 경제적 사회적 정치적 형성 과정을 통해 지역 정체성의 구성성을 논한다. 둘째, 1950년대 말부터 반세기 이상 진행된 루르 지역 탈산업화의 특성을 사민주의적 구조조정이라는 정치기획으로 논의한다. 마지막으로, 그 결과물인 산업문화의 과거 재현에서 드러나는 기억문화를 비판적으로 검토함으로써 탈산업사회의 과제인 사회적 양극화와 관련한 역사적 문화적 공간적 실천의 가능성을 모색한다. This is a study on the Ruhr area of western Germany, the deindustrialized district of international repute as a ‘success model’ for industrial heritage and urban regeneration since the 1990s. Regarding the collapse of its coal and steel industry as a result of the structural transformation of energy sources and the international division of industry in the second half of the twentieth century, the Ruhr responded with a long-term Strukturwandel, which means the restructuring of the economy and the transition of the Ruhr area from a polluted industrial belt to a high-tech knowledge and cultural region with post-industrial nature. This article focuses on social-democratic political culture as a social and political context that made this transition possible and discusses the characteristics and limitations of Industriekultur, i.e. German conception of industrial heritage, as its result. To this end, this study first examines the Ruhr area and its identity as historically constructed since the nineteenth century by tracing its economic, social, and political formation. Second, the deindustrialization here for more than half a century since the late 1950s is discussed as a result of a political project enforced by social democratic agents and compared with international counterparts of neoliberal deindustrialization without social policy. Finally, the memory culture in the representation of the industrial past by Industriekultur is critically examined and the possibility of historical, cultural, and spatial practice related to social polarization as the common task of a post-industrial society is explored.

청허 휴정(淸虛休靜) 선사상의 고유성과 독특성 ― 일물(一物)에 담긴 깨달음에의 실천적 위상(位相)을 중심으로 ―

본 논문은 청허 휴정 선사상의 고유성과 독특성을 일물에 담긴 깨달음에의 실천적 위상을 중심으로 논의하였다. 여기서 위상은 ‘어떤 사물이 다른 사물과의 관계 속에서 가지는 위치나 상태’를 의미한다. 청허 휴정은 일물을 통해 그의 선사상과 깨달음에의 실천적 위상을 드러내었는데 이를 크게 사교입선과 선정겸수의 관점에서 살펴보았다. 먼저 휴정의 사교입선과 일물의 관계를 통해 휴정의 일물이 갖는 특징을 파악하였다. 즉 휴정의 일물은 우리의 본원진심을 묘사하기 위한 추상적 용어 혹은 선과 교를 통합하기 위한 중도적 교의를 나타내는 것에 한정되지 아니하고 경절의 활구를 통해 직접적인 선의 체험 즉 견성성불의 중요성을 드러내는 위상을 갖는다. 다음으로 휴정의 선정겸수과 일물의 관계를 논술하였다. 기본적으로 휴정은 선과 염불이 다르지 않다고 보았다. 그러나 이는 선과 염불의 차이를 없애기 위해서라기보다 선의 입장에서 염불을 포용할 것을 강조한 것이다. 특히 이러한 관계속에서 휴정의 일물은 선의 입장에서 염불을 참선으로 승화시킨 염불공안으로 제시되었다. 즉 휴정의 염불은 선과 만나 참구의 염불이 되고, 다시 자심의 정토를 깨닫는 실상염불을 지향한다. This study discussed the Characteristic and Uniqueness of the Cheongheo Hyujeong’s Seon Thought, focusing on the practical status of enlightenment contained in One-Thing. Here, status means ‘the state that an object has in relation to another object’. Cheongheo Hyujeong revealed his Thought of Seon and practical status of enlightenment contained in One-Thing that I discussed from the perspective of Relinquishing Gyo(敎) and Entering Seon and the combined cultivation of Seon and Pure Land(淨土). First, I reviewed the relationship between Relinquishing Gyo and Entering Seon and One-Thing, and through this, I could examine the characteristics of Hujeong’s One-Thing. In other words, the works of Hujeong are not limited to abstract terms to describe our One’s original Buddha-nature or to express The Middle Way to integrate Seon and Gyo, but have a status of revealing the importance of direct experience of Seon, that is, to penetrate one’s mind is to become enlightened through the Living Phrase(活句) of shortcut expedient. Next, the relationship between the combined cultivation of Seon and Pure Land and the One-Thing of Hyujeong was discussed. Hyujeong thought of that Seon and to meditate on the Buddha were not different. However, this is not to eliminate the difference between Seon and to meditate on the Buddha, but rather emphasizes the embracing of to meditate on the Buddha from the point of view of Seon. In particular, the work of Hujeong presented in this relationship was presented as to meditate on the Buddha with kung-an(公案) that sublimated to meditate on the Buddha into Seon from the point of view of Seon. In other words, to meditate on the Buddha meets Seon and becomes to meditate on the Buddha of Penetration(參究), and aims to become the One’s own original nature that realizes the Pure Land of Buddha-nature again.

ECM and Scrambling at the Edges of CP in Korean

This paper investigates various extraction patterns out of phases with multiple edges in Korean, and provides additional evidence for Bošković’s (2016) proposal that the edge status of an element has to be determined contextually. The case studies I conduct concern Exceptional Case Marking and Scrambling from the embedded CP in Korean. The aim of this paper is to show that the various word order patterns that are created by interactions of these operations can be accounted for in a uniform manner once the contextuality of phasal edges is taken into consideration.

Effects of Active- and Passive-hyperthermia on Isometric Handgrip Strength and Endurance

The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of hyperthermia on isometric handgrip strength and endurance. Twelve healthy men completed two experimental trials: active hyperthermia (AH) involving treadmill exercise at 60% VO2max or passive hyperthermia (PH) via water garment until their rectal temperature (Tre) increased 1.5°C in ambient heat (35°C, 50%). Isometric handgrip strength and endurance were assessed on the dominant arm using a handheld dynamometer for maximal voluntary contraction (MVC), dynamic endurance (MVC10), and static endurance (MVC75%) immediately before and after hyperthermia. Exposure time to PH was significantly longer than AH, leading to a higher level of dehydration (AH: 0.9±0.1, PH: 1.4±0.3 kg) and forearm muscle temperature in PH (AH: 35.7±0.8, PH: 38.3±0.5°C) (p < 0.001). MVC did not change within or between the conditions. MVC10 was significantly impaired only in PH compared to AH (p=0.001) whereas MVC75% was significantly impaired at a similar degree in AH and PH (p<0.001). The study findings suggest that sustained force production ability is impaired following either mode of hyperthermia, whereas MVC remained unaffected. Together with hyperthermia-induced central fatigue, dehydration and high muscle temperature also appeared to influence handgrip strength and endurance.

Crisis Management Strategy for the Korean MICE Industry Using SWOT-AHP-TOWS Analysis

Purpose – This study presents strategies to overcome the COVID-19-induced crisis in Korea’s meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) industry. It aims to quantitatively identify the environmental factors affecting the industry and their degree of influence, and derive optimal countermeasures. Design/methodology – The study applied the SWOT-AHP-TOWS framework. An AHP analysis was first performed within the SWOT frame, and then a TOWS analysis was conducted using the results of the SWOT-AHP analysis. In the AHP analysis, the number of pairwise comparison questions was limited to four for each SWOT factor to increase the consistency of responses by reducing the burden on respondents. Findings – The plunge in demand (threats factor) has had an overwhelming impact on the MICE industry, more than any other environmental factor. To overcome the crisis, the ST alternative that takes advantage of dynamic pop culture to minimize the business damage caused by the plunge in demand was the top priority measure. Based on the results, this study presents suggestions for overcoming the crisis in the MICE industry. First, the industry should develop profitable business models to supplement scarce financial resources by exploiting Korea’s success with quarantine management. Second, the government must provide emergency relief funds or bailout support to protect MICE facilities and employees. Originality/value – Unlike previous work on the MICE industry, this study utilized the SWOT-AHP￾TOWS framework to derive quick research results in an abnormal situation. This approach can be expanded to other countries with different industrial environments and situations. Additionally, when applying this method to MICE sub-sectors, countermeasures should be tailored to each field.

The Influence of Power Posing of College Students on Career Search Self-Efficacy and Affect: An Exploring Study

Purpose: This study aimed to compare the effects of adopting an expansive (vs. contractive) posture on college students’ perceptions of career search self-efficacy and affect Methods: Participants were 31 Koomin university students (20 males and 11 females). Participants were randomly assigned into two groups involving either an expansive or contractive posture and completed measures of Career Search Self-Efficacy Scale(CSES), the Korean Positive and Negative Affect Schedule(K-PANAS) and Korean-Profile of Mood States (K-POMS). Results: There was a significant difference between the two groups for the positive affect factor of the K-PANAS, and the vigor-activity and fatigue-inertia factors of the K-POMS and job exploration efficacy, interviewing efficacy, networking efficacy factor of CSES. Conclusion: This study confirms that adopting an expansive (vs. contractive) posture can affect career search self-efficacy, positive affect, vigor-activity, and fatigue-inertia ratings in Korean college students despite the known cultural differences to Western culture. It is now necessary to study how to adopting an expansive posture impacts upon performance in other contexts such as daily life and sports.

Is Smartphone Addiction Comparable between Adolescents and Adults? Examination of the Degree of Smartphone Use, Type of Smartphone Activities, and Addiction Levels among Adolescents and Adults

To identify the patterns of smartphone use in relation to addiction, this study classifies survey respondents into non-addicts, potential addicts, and addicts groups, and analyzes differences in the use of smartphones by the three groups. Adolescents are found to spend more time using smartphones than adults, and the rates of smartphone addiction are higher among adolescents than among adults. Multinominal regression models show that weekend use and average time per use are significant predictors of smartphone addiction. On the other hand, among the addicts groups, adolescents and adults are found to engage in different sets of activities. The adolescent addicts are more likely to use social networking sites (SNS) and mobile games, while the adult addicts engage in a more diverse set of activities such as SNS, gambling, mobile games, videos and pornography.
