Discussions on Smooth Modifications of Integral Sliding Mode Control

Yongping Pan,주영훈,Haoyong Yu 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2018 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.16 No.2

Sliding mode control (SMC) contains two phases, namely reaching and sliding phases, where the invariance of SMC is not guaranteed during the reaching phase. Integral SMC (ISMC) eliminates the reaching phase such that the invariance is guaranteed from the initial time instant. Several smoothing techniques have been applied to reduce chattering in the ISMC, including boundary layer, high-order SMC, low-pass filtering, etc. In this study, we discuss pros and cons of these techniques and suggest a simple and effective solution to attenuate chattering in the ISMC. In the suggested solution, the discontinuous part of the ISMC law is smoothed by a low-pass filter based on the equivalent control method. The resultant ISMC can not only avoid the trade-off among chattering, tracking accuracy, and robustness, but also act as a disturbance observer to exactly estimate and reject uncertainties. Numerical results have been provided to verify the arguments of this study.

Convergence properties for the partial sums of widely orthant dependent random variables under some integrable assumptions and their applications

        Yongping He,Xuejun Wang,Chi Yao 대한수학회 2020 대한수학회보 Vol.57 No.6

Widely orthant dependence (WOD, in short) is a special dependence structure. In this paper, by using the probability inequalities and moment inequalities for WOD random variables, we study the $L_p$ convergence and complete convergence for the partial sums respectively under the conditions of RCI$(\alpha)$, SRCI$(\alpha)$ and $R$-$h$-integrability. We also give an application to nonparametric regression models based on WOD errors by using the $L_p$ convergence that we obtained. Finally we carry out some simulations to verify the validity of our theoretical results.

Synthesis of a new polystyrene@Fe3O4 magnetic microspheres

        Yongping Xue,Feng Jian,Xuewen Zhong,Lu Tang,Xiaojun Yang 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2021 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.22 No.4

In this article, the synthesis process of magnetic polystyrene@Fe3O4 was investigated, which are suitable for the applicationin magnetically stabilized fluidized-bed reactors. The magnetic polystyrene@Fe3O4 coated with Fe3O4 were prepared bysuspension polymerization. In the reaction, triethoxy(vinyl)silane, styrene, divinylbenzene, liquid paraffin, gelatin, benzoylperoxides (BPO) were used as the surfactant, monomers, the crosslinking agent, a porogenic agent, a dispersant, an initiator, respectively. Simultaneously, the chemical composition, morphologies, particle sizes, the amount of Fe3O4 coated were analyzed. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) analysis and thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA). The results showed that thenew type of magnetic polystyrene@Fe3O4 microspheres were porous, spherical in shape with a narrow particle size distributionin the range of 150~200 μm. The amount of Fe3O4 coating reached to 12.39%, and the maximum saturation magnetizationwas 51.71 A·m2·kg-1 at room temperature. In addition, the results also showed that polystyrene@Fe3O4 magnetic microsphereshave good acid resistance and good suspendability.

Analytical approximate solutions for large post-buckling response of a hygrothermal beam

Yongping Yu,Youhong Sun 국제구조공학회 2012 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.43 No.2

This paper deals with large deformation post-buckling of a linear-elastic and hygrothermal beam with axially nonmovable pinned-pinned ends and subjected to a significant increase in swelling by an alternative method. Analytical approximate solutions for the geometrically nonlinear problem are presented. The solution for the limiting case of a string is also obtained. By coupling of the well-known Maclaurin series expansion and orthogonal Chebyshev polynomials, the governing differential equation with sinusoidal nonlinearity can be reduced to form a cubic-nonlinear equation, and supplementary condition with cosinoidal nonlinearity can also be simplified to be a polynomial integral equation. Analytical approximations to the resulting boundary condition problem are established by combining the Newton’s method with the method of harmonic balance. Two approximate formulae for load along axis, potential strain for free hygrothermal expansion and periodic solution are established for small as well as large angle of rotation at the end of the beam. Illustrative examples are selected and compared to “reference” solution obtained by the shooting method to substantiate the accuracy and correctness of the approximate analytical approach.

      • Rational design of common transition metal-nitrogen-carbon catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction in fuel cells

        Zheng, Yongping,Yang, Dae-Soo,Kweun, Joshua M.,Li, Chenzhe,Tan, Kui,Kong, Fantai,Liang, Chaoping,Chabal, Yves J.,Kim, Yoon Young,Cho, Maenghyo,Yu, Jong-Sung,Cho, Kyeongjae Elsevier 2016 Nano energy Vol.30 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Bio-inspired non-precious-metal catalysts based on iron and cobalt porphyrins are promising alternatives to replace costly platinum-based catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in fuel cells. However, the exact nature of the active sites is still not clearly understood, and further optimization design is needed for practical applications. Here, we report a rational catalyst design process by combining density functional theory (DFT) calculations and experimental validations. Two sets of square-planar (MNxC4−x) and square-pyramid (MNxC5−x) active centers (M=Mn, Fe, Co, Ni) incorporated in graphene were examined using DFT. Fe-N5 and Co-N4 sites were identified theoretically to have the best performance in fuel cells, while Ni-NxC4−x sites catalyze the most H2O2 byproduct. Graphene samples with well-dispersed incorporations of metals were synthesized, and the following electrochemical measurements show an excellent agreement with the theoretical predictions, indicating that a successful design framework and systematic understanding toward the catalytic nature of these materials are established.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Graphene based catalysts design for ORR is demonstrated by combining experiments and modellings. </LI> <LI> Iron porphyrin like active site is unraveled to be five nitrogen coordinated as FeN5. </LI> <LI> Cobalt porphyrin like active site is shown to be four nitrogen coordinated as CoN4. </LI> <LI> Nickel porphyrin like catalyst is potentially used for catalytic synthesis of H2O2. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

      • Analytical approximate solution for Initial post-buckling behavior of pipes in oil and gas wells

        Yu, Yongping,Sun, Youhong,Han, Yucen Techno-Press 2012 Coupled systems mechanics Vol.1 No.2

This paper presents analytical approximate solutions for the initial post-buckling deformation of the pipes in oil and gas wells. The governing differential equation with sinusoidal nonlinearity can be reduced to form a third-order-polynomial nonlinear equation, by coupling of the well-known Maclaurin series expansion and orthogonal Chebyshev polynomials. Analytical approximations to the resulting boundary condition problem are established by combining the Newton's method with the method of harmonic balance. The linearization is performed prior to proceeding with harmonic balancing thus resulting in a set of linear algebraic equations instead of one of non-linear algebraic equations, unlike the classical method of harmonic balance. We are hence able to establish analytical approximate solutions. The approximate formulae for load along axis, and periodic solution are established for derivative of the helix angle at the end of the pipe. Illustrative examples are selected and compared to "reference" solution obtained by the shooting method to substantiate the accuracy and correctness of the approximate analytical approach.
