<P>Containerless aerodynamic levitation processing is a unique technology for the fabrication of bulk non-crystalline materials. Using conventional aerodynamic levitation, a high reflective index (RI) material (BaTi2O5 and LaO3/2-TiO2-ZrO2 system) was developed with a RI greater than approximately 2.2, which is similar to that of diamond. However, the glass size was small, approximately 3 mm in diameter. Therefore, it is essential to produce large sized materials for future optical materials applications, such as camera lenses. In this study, a new aerodynamic levitator was designed to produce non-crystalline materials with diameters larger than 6 mm. The concept of this new levitator was to set up a reduced pressure at the top of the molten samples without generating turbulent flow. A numerical simulation was also performed to verify the concept.</P>

Masticatory muscle tendon-aponeurosis hyperplasia accompanied by limited mouth opening

Patients with masticatory muscle tendon-aponeurosis hyperplasia (MMTAH) experience limited mouth opening due to restricted muscle extension. Hyperplastic aponeurosis and tendons lead to the restriction of muscle extension. The criteria for the diagnosis of MMTAH are limited mouth opening that progresses very slowly from adolescence, intraoral palpation reveals a hard cord-like structure along the overhang of the anterior border of the masseter muscle on maximum mouth opening, and a square mandible. Conservative treatment, including pharmacotherapy, occlusal splint and physical therapy are ineffective. The standard therapy is surgical treatment, such as anterior partial aponeurectomy of the masseter muscle and coronoidectomy. The long-term results are very satisfying.

We designed a voltage-control spintronics memory unit-cell, VoCSM, with high write-efficiency to prove a potential to reduce writing energy per bit. By optimizing a self-aligned structure, the cell has the critical switching current (Icsw) smaller than 50 μA at 20 nsec. for designed MTJ size of about 50 × 150 ㎚². The value is much smaller than that for mature STT-MRAM with the similar dimension. VoCSM also was proved to have unlimited endurance. Finally, with an empirical equation of Icsw further reduction of Icsw is estimated to clarify that VoCSM has a potential to reduce Icsw down to several μA.

Pump efficiency correction equations for converting from water to viscous liquids have been established for the turbulent-flow and laminar-flow regions. However, the two equations are discontinuous in the transient-flow region. This paper proposes a new equation for the transient-flow region that is based on fluid-dynamical considerations. Moreover, an alternative equation is examined for the turbulent-flow region that avoids an underestimate caused by the current efficiency correction equation that was adopted in ISO/TR 17766.
