        Primary blast waves induced brain dynamics influenced by head orientations

        There is controversy regarding the directionaldependence of head responses subjected to blast loading. The goal of this work is to characterize the role of headorientation in the mechanics of blast wave-head interactionsas well as the load transmitting to the brain. A three-dimensionalhuman head model with anatomical details wasreconstructed from computed tomography images. Threedifferent head orientations with respect to the oncomingblast wave, i.e., front-on with head facing blast, back-onwith head facing away from blast, and side-on with rightside exposed to blast, were considered. The reflected pressureat the blast wave-head interface positively correlatedwith the skull curvature. It is evidenced by the maximumreflected pressure occurring at the eye socket with the largestcurvature on the skull. The reflected pressure patternalong with the local skull areas could further influence theintracranial pressure distributions within the brain. We didfind out that the maximum coup pressure of 1.031 MPa inthe side-on case as well as the maximum contrecoup pressureof -0.124 MPa in the back-on case. Moreover, themaximum principal strain (MPS) was also monitored due toits indication to diffuse brain injury. It was observed that thepeak MPS located in the frontal cortex region regardless ofthe head orientation. However, the local peak MPS withineach individual function region of the brain depended on thehead orientation. The detailed interactions between blastwave and head orientations provided insights for evaluatingthe brain dynamics, as well as biomechanical factors leadingto traumatic brain injury.

        Early Chinese Diasporas and the Chinese Exclusion Act

        In China, the statements about early Chinese diasporas and the Chinese Exclusion Act in a variety of literature, including history textbooks and research papers, are based on a set of presumptions underlying political or racial implications. (which include the formation of the early Chinese communities in America, the reason for the emergence of Chinese Exclusion Act, and the abrogation thereafter. Generally the presumptions assume the following: early Chinese laborers are forced to America by violence; the later strong resistance among local community against Chinese diasporas was out of racial prejudice; the pass of the Chinese Exclusion Act is to exclude all Chinese nationals; the termination of the Act is the fruit of struggle of American minority groups, including the struggle of Chinese diasporas” omitted). The presumptions are often so widely referred to in all kinds of research in the relative fields that it seems to be considered as truth without question. However, after a close reading of the historical documents, I find that the difficulties the early Chinese diasporas encountered and the emergence of the Chinese Exclusion Act should be attributed to economic factors rather than political or racial persecution. The presumptions—although for the most part fallacies and far from the historical truth—are widely accepted as truth because they are part of the sources of nationalism ideology construction and, later, the touchstone of the narration of the nation-state.

        Ring Signature Scheme Based on Lattice and Its Application on Anonymous Electronic Voting

        With the development of quantum computers, ring signature schemes based on large integer prime factorization, discrete logarithm problem, and bilinear pairing are under threat. For this reason, we design a ring signature scheme based on lattice with a fixed verification key. Compared with the previous ring signature scheme based on lattice, our design has a fixed verification key and does not disclose the signer’s identity. Meanwhile, we propose an anonymous electronic voting scheme by using our ring signature scheme based on lattice and (t,m) threshold scheme, which makes up for the lack of current anonymous electronic voting that cannot resist attacks of the quantum computer. Finally, under standard model (SM), we prove that our ring signature scheme based on lattice is anonymous against the full-key exposure, and existentially non-forgeable against insider corruption. Furthermore, we also briefly analyze the security of our anonymous electronic voting scheme.

      • Study on Consumption, Investment, Import, Export and Economic Growth Evidence from Fujian Time Series Data from 1981 to 2013

        Based on economic growth theory of modern economic theory, with Fujian Province as object of study, panel data from 1981 to 2013 is selected in this paper. Besides, VAR model is established. Co-integration test, Granger causality and impulse response function are used for quantitative analysis on correlation between consumption, investment, import, export and economic growth in Fujian Province. With Eviews8 software as analytical tool, the empirical study conducts analysis from the perspective of econometrics and tests the stationarity of unit root data; determines optimal lag intervals through VAR model analysis on different lag intervals; determines the existence of co-integration relationship of data through Johansen co-integration test; tests the causality of data with Granger causality test; conducts stationarity test by establishing VAR model; studies the variation trend of influence of consumption, investment and import and export on economic growth in the next ten years through impulse response. The author reveals long-term stable balance among consumption, investment, import, export and economic growth in Fujian Province as well as bidirectional causal relationship between consumption and economic growth. For a short term, household consumption is of relatively strong positive impact effect on economic gain, which is served as major impetus of economic growth. Domestic investment is of relatively obvious promotion for economic growth in a short term and of certain negative effect on economic growth in a long term. Import and export have significant function for promoting economic growth and profound influence in Fujian as coastal city. On this basis, the author proposes some policies and recommendations for macroeconomic regulation and control in Fujian Province.

        Evaluation of maternal rhesus blood type as a risk factor in adverse pregnancy outcomes in Korea: a nationwide health insurance database study

        Objectives The current study aimed to investigate whether pregnancy outcomes are affected by maternal rhesus (Rh) status by comparing the primigravida pregnancy outcomes of Rh-negative women with those of Rh-positive women. Methods The study data were collected from the Korea National Health Insurance Claims Database and the National Health Screening Program for Infants and Children. In total, 1,664,882 primigravida women who gave birth between January 1, 2007 and December 31, 2014, were enrolled in this study. As the risk and severity of sensitization response increases with each subsequent pregnancy, only primigravida women were enrolled. The patients were divided into 2 groups according to Rh status, and the pregnancy outcomes were compared. Results In total, 1,661,320 women in the Rh-positive group and 3,290 in the Rh-negative group were assessed. With regard to adverse pregnancy outcomes, there was no statistically significant difference between the 2 groups in terms of the prevalence of preeclampsia, postpartum hemorrhage, abruptio placenta, placenta previa, and uterine artery embolization. A univariate analysis revealed that none of the adverse pregnancy outcomes were significantly correlated to Rh status (preeclampsia: odds ratio [OR], 1.00, 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.81-1.23; postpartum hemorrhage: OR, 1.10, 95% CI, 0.98-1.24; abruptio placenta: OR, 0.80, 95% CI, 0.46-1.37; and placenta previa: OR, 1.08, 95% CI, 0.78-1.42). The adjusted ORs of postpartum hemorrhage and preterm birth did not significantly differ. Conclusion Maternal Rh status is not associated with adverse outcomes in primigravida women.

        Low velocity impact resistance of ceramic/polyurea composite plates: experimental study

        Laminated and segmented ceramic/polyurea composite plates were fabricated by coating bulk ceramic plate and bonding ceramic tablets with polyurea, respectively. Also, nacre-like ceramic/polyurea composite plates, which mimic the “brick-mortar” structure of nacre, were fabricated by layering segmented ceramic/polyurea composite plates in a staggered way and bonding them with polyurea. Drop-weight impact tests were performed for the composite plates and corresponding bulk ceramic plates of similar size. The failure mode and low velocity impact resistance of the composite plates and the bulk ceramic plates were compared. The effects of polyurea on low velocity impact resistance of ceramic were analyzed. It is found that the laminated composite plate has much higher failure energy than the bulk ceramic plate due to the buffering effect of polyurea coating. The segmented composite plate has better multiple-impact resistance than the bulk ceramic plate, due to the crack arrest effect of polyurea filler between ceramic tablets. The nacre-like composite plate has better multipleimpact resistance compared with the bulk ceramic plate of similar thickness, since it can stop cracks propagating in plane and along thickness.

      • The Research on the Relationship of Financial Expenditure, Real Estate Development and Economic Growth—An Empirical Study of Fujian Province

        With Fujian Province as object of study, panel data from 1980 to 2013 is selected in this paper. Besides, VAR model is established. Co-integration test, Granger causality, impulse response function and variance decomposition are used for quantitative analysis on correlation between real estate development, financial expenditure and economic growth in Fujian Province. The research results show that long-term stable balance among real estate development, financial expenditure and economic growth in Fujian Province. Real estate development and financial expenditure are the Granger factors driving the growth of economic growth. Financial expenditure is the Granger reason for real estate development’s development. On this basis, the author proposes some policies and recommendations for macroeconomic regulation and control in Fujian Province.

        Risk Degree of Ship-bridge Collision based on Theory of Ship Collision Avoidance

        Bridges have played an integral role in the development of economy and progress of human society, which facilitate transportation and promote regional economic development. However, a large number of bridges for sea-crossing or river-crossing have impeded the water transportation to varying degrees, and then one part of bridges are confronted with higher risk of ship-bridge collision. There are many ship-bridge collision accidents in the world in recent decades, which caused huge casualties and property losses. This paper proposes the model of risk degree for ship-bridge collision based on the theory of ship collision avoidance, as one parts of the system of active warning of ship-bridge collision avoidance, which can show the index of dynamic risk degree for vessels passing through bridge area. The index of ship-bridge collision can make more efficiency for the system of active warning of ship-bridge collision avoidance, which can ensure safety for vessels and bridges. The verification results show the application possibility of the model in practice.
