      • Typology Model of Managers : A New Framework

        본 연구의 주된 목적은 조직의 경영자들을 새로운 시각에서 재분류하는 데에 있다. 기존의 조직경영자들에 대한 분류모형(typolopy model)을 재조명하고 이를 통하여 새로운 분류모형을 합성, 조직경영자들을 이해함에 보다 나은 학문적 도구를 제공한다. 모형은 크게 두가지 차원에 의해 정의된다. 조직경영자가 갖는 경영상의 내부관점(internal perspective)과 외부관점(external perspective)이 그것이다. 이들 두 차원에 의거 4가지 경영자 유형이 산출되는 바, 본 연구에서는 OP, OT, IP, IT형으로 명명하였다. 각 형들에 대한 충분한 논의가 제시되었으며 아울러 당 모형의 학문적 응용에 관하여도 논하였다. 예시된 학문적 응용은 기업전략형태와 당 모형에 의한 경영자 유형과의 연결을 시도한 것이다. 이외의 학문 및 실용적인 측면에서의 응용은 결론 부위에서 언급되었다. Manager is one of the major variables which have received much attentions of researchers in the management literatures. No academic students of management disagree with phrases such as "Where organizations exist, managers are there" or "Managers have considerable influencies on organizational performance and ultimately futures of organizations". (Weiner & Mahoney, 1981). In the view of theoretical development, this concerns for managers have been deeply related with historical efforts of identifying effective managers. Describing certain traits of managers is the earliest typical study of these efforts. Recently, emphasizing importance of managers is largely unfolded through manager-situation viewpoint which says that there is no single competent manager favored by all situations (Szilagyi, Jr. & Schweiger, 1984). In relation with this manager-situation viewpoint, it is well known academic outcomes that literatures have various frameworks of delineating typology of managers or style of managers. Lots of researches have been engaged in this work in the various research fields, sometimes in the name of leader style, sometimes managerial style or sometimes in other name such as decision making style(Hollander, 1971; Misumi &. Seki, 1971; Bass & Valenzi, 1974; Kirton, 1976). In any schemes of typology, it might be true that they contribute to understand manager and finally contingent relationship between managers and situation. However, we have faith in that existing style-related literatures are only contributing to the partial understanding of managers and it makes difficult to have an integrative insight capable of depicting the whole features of managers. In our contentions, this is due to that existing literatures concerning manager-types are prepossessed with notions of their own academic disciplines: that is, so far developing typology of manager-styles is performed by focusing on merely its own research relevance for each discipline, which has a bent for emphasizing only one side of manager's role. Thus, what should be emphasized is that the existing literatures of manager types must be submitted to integration so that improved synthesis and thus comprehensive understanding of managers can be possible. With this in mind, the primary purpose of this study is in an attempt to develop a typology model which gives a new synthesized classificatory schemes of managers. In addition, this study suggests some potential research propositions related with model.

      • Top Executive's Types, Their Managerial Strengths and Weaknesses and Contingent Linkage between the Types and Firm's competitive Situations

        本 硏究의 主題는 最高經營者의 經營스타일이 企業經營에 매우 중요한 요소라는 점에서 출발한다. 왜냐하면 最高經營者란 企業의 가장 중요한 責任者이며 意思決定의 權力者로서 企業의 주요 目標, 戰略, 構造에 매우 큰 영향을 미치며 궁극적으로는 企業의 成果에 영향을 주기 때문이다. 따라서 本 硏究는 最高經營者의 스타일과 이와 관련한 사항(각 유형의 장 · 단점, 각 유형의 최적경영상황)을 논의하고자 한다. 2개의 經營行動次元을 통하여 4가지의 最高經營者 스타일을 導出하였으며 이들은 각기 OP, IT, OT, 및 IP型으로 명명되었다. 各變型별 長 · 短點과 이들 類型들이 最適的으로 적용될 수 있는 經營狀況이 부가적으로 제시되었다. "What are the major factors influencing firm's success?" Few top executives would disagree that such a question is at the core of ongoing management issues for running a firm. Thus they make a continuous managerial effort to find and analyze those factors influencing firm's success. But it is not well recognized among top executives that the most critical factor to firm's success, particularly in small buisiness, lies in top executives themselves. When a business fails, most top executives try to identify the reasons in their employees' misplaying or their bad luck. However, researchers maintain that top executives themselves are first responsible for such results in most cases.^1) The reason is simple:because, the results often come from the consequence of major strategic decisions or the way of managing the firm's, and such is the responsibility of the firm's top executives.^2) To be specific, top executives are the very people directly having major impacts on firm's objectives, strategies and even firm's structure. Their thoughts and their managerial values are reflected in the firm's behaviors, which ultimately determine firm's performance according to their goodness of fit with firm's external environments. Then, there could be one question among top executives, "What do we have to do?" This study suggests that first of all top executives have to know their managerial types and their managerial strenghts and weaknesses in running the firm. And second, they have to check if their managerial types are appropriately workable with firm's current competitive situations. With these in mind, this study raised. That is, the primary purpose of this study is to materialize the above perspective. For this, this study 1. develops a typology of classifying top executives into different types, 2. discusses each type's potential strengths and weaknesses in running the firm, and 3. investigates contingency linkages between top executive types and specific competitive situations.

        Aitken-based Acceleration Estimation Algorithms for a Nonlinear Model with Exponential Terms by Using the Decomposition

        This paper studies some parameter estimation algorithms for a class of nonlinear models with exponential terms, i.e., the radial basis function-based state-dependent autoregressive (RBF-AR) models. An Aitken-based multi-innovation stochastic gradient algorithm is presented for the RBF-AR models based on the Aitken method. Inspired by the decomposition-coordination principle of large systems, an Aitken-based hierarchical multi-innovation stochastic gradient algorithm is proposed by combining the decomposition technique with the Aitken method. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithms are validated through two simulation examples.

        An Efficient Anti-collision Algorithm for the EPCglobal Class-1 Generation-2 System under the Dynamic Environment

        Radio frequency identification (RFID) is an emerging wireless communication technology which allows objects to be identified automatically. The tag anti-collision is a significant issue for fast identifying tags due to the shared wireless channel between tags and the reader during communication. The EPCglobal Class-1 Generation-2 which uses Q algorithm for the anti-collision is widely used in many applications such as consumer electronic device and supply chain. However, the increasing application of EPCglobal Class-1 Generation-2 which requires the dynamic environment makes the efficiency decrease critically. Furthermore, its frame length (size) determination and frame termination lead to the suboptimal efficiency. A new anti-collision algorithm is proposed to deal with the two problems for large-scale RFID systems. The algorithm has higher performance than the Q algorithm in the dynamic environment. Some simulations are given to illustrate the performance.

        Mining Highly Reliable Dense Subgraphs from Uncertain Graphs

        The uncertainties of the uncertain graph make the traditional definition and algorithms on mining dense graph for certain graph not applicable. The subgraph obtained by maximizing expected density from an uncertain graph always has many low edge-probability data, which makes it low reliable and low expected edge density. Based on the concept of β-subgraph, to overcome the low reliability of the densest subgraph, the concept of optimal β-subgraph is proposed. An efficient greedy algorithm is also developed to find the optimal β-subgraph. Simulation experiments of multiple sets of datasets show that the average edge-possibility of optimal β-subgraph is improved by nearly 40%, and the expected edge density reaches 0.9 on average. The parameter β is scalable and applicable to multiple scenarios.

        Measurement of undesirable neutron spectrum in a 120 MeV linac

        Photoneutron background spectroscopy observations at linac are essential for directing accelerator shielding and subtracting background signals. Therefore, we constructed a Bonner Sphere Spectrometer (BSS) system based on an array of BF3 gas proportional counter tubes. Initially, the response of the BSS system was simulated using the MCNP5 code. Next, the response of the system was calibrated by using neutrons with energies of 2.86 MeV and 14.84 MeV. Then, the system was employed to measure the spectrum of the 241AmeBe neutron source, and the results were unfolded by using the Gravel and EM algorithms. Using the validated system, the undesirable neutron spectrum of the 120 MeV electron linac was finally measured and acquired. In addition, it is demonstrated that the equivalent undesirable neutron dose at a distance of 3.2 m from the linac is 19.7 mSv/h. The results measured by the above methods could provide guidance for linac-related research.

        A Comparative Analysis of Government Responses to COVID-19 in the United States, China, and South Korea: Lessons from the Early Stage of the Pandemic

        COVID-19 has spread quickly worldwide, presenting unprecedented challenges to countries all over the globe. To understand how different countries have responded to COVID-19 during the early stage of the outbreak, we develop a comprehensive research framework drawing on the literature on wicked problems. Specifically, we comparatively investigate the government responses of the United States, China, and South Korea and examine why and how these countries have adopted and implemented various strategies authoritative, collaborative, and competitive — —depending on their policy environment. Although scholars have argued that collaborative strategies are the preferred approach to dealing with wicked problems, it is found that the most applicable, implementable, and effective strategies vary according to the country's cultural, economic, and political contexts. In addition, the urgency and timing of the crisis may affect the choice of appropriate strategies. Our findings can provide lessons for public administration and policy to cope with other wicked problems.

        Studies on Electrical Double Layer Capacitor Based on Mesoporous Activated Carbon

        Mesoporous activated carbon (AC) was prepared from aged petroleum coke through chemical activation. The AC has a specific surface area of 1733 $m^2/g$ and a mean pore diameter of 2.37 nm. The volume fraction of 2 to 4nm pores is 56.74%. At a current density of 10 mA/$cm^2$, a specific capacitance of 240 F/g is achieved representing the use factor of the surface area of 69.2%. And the electrical double layer capacitor (EDLC) based on the AC shows an excellent power performance. This result suggests that the presence of high fraction of mesopores can effectively increase the adsorption efficiency of the specific surface area of the AC and enhance the power performance of EDLC based on the efficient surface area of the AC.
