An integrated dendrite-free zinc metal electrode for corrosion inhibition in aqueous system
Yi-Fan Hu,Li-Feng Zhou,He Gong,He Jia,Peng Chen,Yi-Song Wang,Li-Ying Liu,Tao Du 한국화학공학회 2022 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.39 No.9
Zinc ion batteries have gotten increasing attention as a potential candidate for lithium-ion batteries, due totheir high specific capacity (820 mAh·g1), energy density, and safety. Inevitably, dendrite and corrosion create sometrouble for this system. Herein, an integrated Zn electrode coated by Zn-Al metal oxides prepared by a simple spincoatingmethod was utilized to increase the rechargeability for aqueous zinc ion batteries. By coating the Zn anodewith an artificial electrolyte interface, the wettability of Zn anodes was improved and impedance was reduced. Thecoating suppressed not only the appearance of dendrite but also the formation of corrosion products. The symmetricalcells with coating have a low overpotential (43mV) and an excellent life span. Meanwhile, the applied full batteriesexhibit an improved capacity retention rate (86.67% after 120 cycles), great rate performance and low apparent activationenergy (24.6 KJ·mol1). The simple production methods and superior corrosion suppression effects provide newideas for the anode protection of aqueous system batteries.
Two-dimensional Elastic Analysis of Doubly Periodic Circular Holes in Infinite Plane
Yi-Zhou Chen,Kang Yong Lee 대한기계학회 2002 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.16 No.5
Two-dimensional elastic analysis of doubly periodic circular holes in an infinite plane is given in this paper. Two cases of loading, remote tension and remote shear, are considered. A rectangular cell is cut from the infinite plane. In both cases, the boundary value problem can be reduced to a complex mixed one. It is found that the eigenfunction expansion variational method is efficient to solve the problem. Based on the deformation response under certain loading, the notched medium could be modeled by an orthotropic medium without holes. Elastic properties for the equivalent orthotropic medium are investigated, and the stress concentration along the hole contour is studied. Finally, numerical examples and results are given.

Background: Rho GDP dissociation inhibitor 2 (RhoGDI2) has been shown to contribute to the aggressive phenotypes of human cancers, such as tumor metastasis and chemoresistance. Objective: This study aimed to assess the effects of RhoGDI2 on tumor progression and chemoresistance in pancreatic cancer cells. Methods: The expression of RhoGDI2 in pancreatic cancer cells was detected by Western blot analysis. Gain-of-function and loss-of-function approaches were done to examine the malignant phenotypes of the RhoGDI2-expressing or RhoGDI2-depleting cells. The correlation between RhoGDI2 and Snail was also analyzed. Results: Differential expression of RhoGDI2 protein in pancreatic cancer cell lines was identified. Gain-of-function and loss-of-function experiments showed that RhoGDI2 induced the malignant phenotypes of pancreatic cancer cells, including proliferation, migration, invasion, and gemcitabine (GEM) chemoresistance. The upregulation of RhoGDI2 stimulated the expression of Snail, resulting in the altered expression of epithelial marker E-cadherin and mesenchymal marker Vimentin, which were characteristics of the tumorigenic activity of epithelial-mesenchymal transition. The expression of RhoGDI2 and Snail was upregulated in clinical tumor samples, and higher expression of RhoGDI2 or Snail was significantly associated with poor patient survival in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Conclusion: The findings indicated that RhoGDI2 promoted GEM resistance and tumor progression in pancreatic cancer and that RhoGDI2 might be a potential therapeutic target in patients with PDAC.
HOCl Oxidation-modified CT26 Cell Vaccine Inhibits Colon Tumor Growth in a Mouse Model
Zhou, Rui,Huang, Wen-Jun,Ma, Cong,Zhou, Yan,Yao, Yu-Qin,Wang, Yu-Xi,Gou, Lan-Tu,Yi, Chen,Yang, Jin-Liang Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.8
Despite progress in elucidating mechanisms associated with colorectal cancer and improvement of treatment methods, it remains a frequent cause of death worldwide. New and more effective therapies are therefore urgently needed. Recent studies have shown that immunogenicity of whole ovarian tumor cells and subsequent T cell response were potentiated by oxidation modification with hypochlorous acid (HOCl) in vitro and ex vivo. These results prompted us to investigate the protective antitumor response with an HOCl treated CT26 colorectal cancer cell vaccine in an in vivo mouse model. Administration of HOCl modified vaccine triggered robust antitumor immunity to autologous tumor cells in mice and prolonged survival period significantly. In addition, increased necrosis and apoptosis were found in tumor tissue from the oxidation group. Interestingly, ELISPOT assays showed that specific T cell responses were not elicited in response to the immunizing cellular antigen, in contrast to raising sera antibody titer and antibody binding activity shown by ELISA assay and flow cytometry. Further evaluation of the mechanisms underlying HOCl modified vaccine mediated humoral immunity highlighted the role of antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity. These results combined with previous studies suggest that HOCl oxidation modified whole cell vaccine has wide applicability as a cancer vaccine because it can target both T cell- and B cell-specific responses. It may thus represent a promising approach for the immunotherapy of colorectal cancer.
Roles of the complement system in alcohol-induced liver disease
Yi Zhou,Guandou Yuan,Fudi Zhong,Songqing He 대한간학회 2020 Clinical and Molecular Hepatology(대한간학회지) Vol.26 No.4
Alcohol-induced liver disease (ALD) is a complex disorder, with a disease spectrum ranging from steatosis to steatohepatitis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. Although the pathogenesis of ALD is incompletely understood and currently no effective drugs are available for ALD, several lines of evidence suggest that complement activation and oxidative stress play crucial roles in the pathogenesis of ALD. Complement activation can regulate the production of ROS and influence oxidative stress in ALD. Precise regulation of the complement system in ALD may be a rational and novel avenue to postpone and even reverse the progression of disease and simultaneously promote the repair of liver injury. In this mini-review, we briefly summarize the recent research progress, especially focusing on the role of complement and oxidative stress-induced transfer RNA-derived fragments, which might help us to better understand the pathogenesis of ALD and provide aid in the development of novel therapeutic strategies for ALD.

This paper reports a new method for calculating the active earth pressure acting on inclined rigid retaining wall with inclined backfill, considering wall-soil interface friction angle. Based on Mohr-Coulomb strength theory and Mohr stress circle, new formulae of the active earth pressure and the active rupture angle are derived. The effects of internal friction angle, backfill-surface inclination, wall-back inclination on the active earth pressure and the active rupture angle are investigated. In order to facilitate calculation, special solutions of presented formulae are discussed under various particular conditions. Finally, the calculated results from the presented formula and existing formulae are compared with existing small-scale test results. The comparison shows that the presented method satisfactorily predicts active earth pressure.
