Effects of temperature on the expression of elytral colour polymorphism in the ladybird beetle, Menochilus sexmaculatus (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae)

        Yasuko Kawakami,Kazuo Yamazaki,Kazunori Ohashi 한국응용곤충학회 2018 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.21 No.2

The ladybird beetle, Menochilus sexmaculatus (Fabricius), has a remarkable elytral colour polymorphism composed of black and red. In the present study, we investigated the effect of temperature on growth from the first instar larva to the pupal stage, as well as maternal morph types on the phenotypic expression of the elytral colour morph in a polymorphic population from Osaka, Japan. Female individuals of three different elytral colour morphs were collected from a wild population, and hatchlings from each female were divided into three groups, which were reared at three constant temperatures: 20 °C, 25 °C, and 30 °C. The phenotypic frequency of F1 adults indicated that the elytral morph type was determined by genetic factors, but not by growth temperatures. Namely, type A (almost black morph) was the most abundant in F1 from type A mothers (Male: 52.6%; Female: 32.3%); and types B (four small-dotted morph) and F (four medium-dotted morph) were the most abundant from type B (Male: 56.7%; Female: 53.3%) and type G (four larger-dotted morph) mothers (Male: 33.3%; Female: 31.3%), respectively. Therefore, the expression of elytral colour polymorphism in the Osaka, Japan population is likely to have a genetic basis contingent on parental morphs, rather than a phenotypic plasticity associated with growth temperatures

Dance Documentation, Preservation, and Digital Recording

        ( Yasuko Endo ) 대한무용학회 2014 대한무용학회논문집 Vol.72 No.5

Dance is rhythmical movement with social and cultural roots, and distinct from the economic or productive sides of society, and is important area of human study. Dance can be separated into two general categories, folk dance and artistic dance. Folk dance is passed on from parents and elders to the younger generation orally within local community. Today this tradition is in decline in Africa, partly because of the influence of Western culture. The purpose of the research is to explore how folk dances have been documented and preserved from old time to today as follows: Drawings and Paintings, Written testimony (books and monographs), Video documentation, Performance (Revival of folk dance), Digital recording (motion capture). The basic thing about motion capture is the fact that an object is established in 3D space no matter how it is viewed from the 2D fields of the cameras. The research is significant in gaining overview of history of dance and deeper understanding of dance in today. As a result, further developments in digital technology will likely see improvements. Such development will surely contribute to a greater understanding of African dance, dance in general, and should be taken advantage of on a more consistent basis. It has not been published and simultaneously submitted for publication elsewhere.

      • Abstracts : Session 3 ; Crucial Roles of Lipids in Skin Barrier : Synchrotron X-ray Diffraction Study of Lipid Lamellar Structure in Stratum Corneum

        ( Yasuko Obata ) 한국피부장벽학회 2013 한국피부장벽학회지 Vol.15 No.2

Lipid lamellar structure in intercellular space of stratum corneum is recognized as main physical barriers against dehydration and invasion of foreign substances. For development of effective transdermal drug delivery, it is necessary to decreasethosebarrierstemporally and reversibly. Co-administration of components which has drug absorption enhancing effect is one of the essential methodologies to increase absorption of drugs via skin. We have determined the change in lipid lamellar structure by synchrotron X-ray diffraction. Lipids in stratum corneum are only 10% in weight and possibleamount of stratum corneum utilize in experiments is very small. Thus, long exposure is necessary and obtained data might be noisy in X-ray diffraction equipment in laboratory. When the stratum corneum was pretreated by l-menthol, lipid lateral packing became liquid crystal. It was considered that disorder of lamellar structure brought about increasing in drug permeation. It means that the lipid lamellar structure is one of the key parameters to evaluate physical barrier function of the skin. Lamellar structure in lipid model prepared by typical lipids in stratum corneum was also determined using synchrotron X-ray diffraction. In case of skin disease model, lateral packing was looser than that of normal skin model. It was agreed well with known data which showed greater TEWL value in disease skin. The structure analysis of lipid lamellar structure employing synchrotron X-ray diffraction is thought to be ameaningful technique possibly applied for promoting mechanism study of transdermal absorption enhancer and evaluation of barrier function of the skin.

Review : Nitric oxide in liver fibrosis: The role of inducible nitric oxide synthase

        ( Yasuko Iwakiri ) 대한간학회 2015 Clinical and Molecular Hepatology(대한간학회지) Vol.21 No.4

The inducible form of nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) is expressed in hepatic cells in pathological conditions. Its induction is involved in the development of liver fibrosis, and thus iNOS could be a therapeutic target for liver fibrosis. This review summarizes the role of iNOS in liver fibrosis, focusing on 1) iNOS biology, 2) iNOS-expressing liver cells, 3) iNOS-related therapeutic strategies, and 4) future directions. • Relation between Lumbar Twist Angle and Surface Electromyogram (EMG)

        Yasuko Maekawa,Akira Shiozaki,Yukie Majima 대한전자공학회 2009 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2009 No.7

This study measured the twist angle of the lumbar region and the surface electromyogram (EMG) and examined their correlation to elucidate the influence of “twist” on lower back pain (LBP). Using a goniometer (two-way angle and twist sensors) and an EMG (SX230;DKH Co., Ltd.), we conducted measurement by affixing the goniometer on the lumbar vertebral column and the EMG sensor on the right and left sides of L4 (of the erector muscle of the spine). The results show that EMG has higher correlation with twist angle in a standing posture keeping feet closed and has higher correlation with the twist angular velocity in a standing posture keeping feet open in breadth of shoulders. And twist with anteversion has an influence on the lumbar region more.

      • Effect of Components in Transdermal/Cosmetic Formulation on Lipid Lamellar Structure in Stratum Corneum

        ( Yasuko Obata ) 한국피부장벽학회 2018 한국피부장벽학회지 Vol.20 No.2

Lamellar structure of intercellular lipids in stratum corneum is considered to be the essential physical barrier to protect living body from dehydration, invasion of hazards and permeation of compounds. The intercellular lipid of the human stratum corneum form a long period lamellar of about 13 nm and a short period lamellar of about 6 nm, and hexagonal and orthorhombic are known as a packing structure. To observe those structure, synchrotron X-ray diffraction is considered to be powerful tool. There observed phase transition of liquidation of orthorhombic packing (~40 ℃), solubilization of long lamellar and high-temperature hexagonal (~50 ℃), liquidation of short lamellar (~70 ℃) and solubilization of high-temperature hexagonal (~80 ℃). These structural changes are thought to be closely related to the barrier function of the skin. When menthol was administered to skin surface, the nanostructure of the intercellular lipids became liquid crystal. That is, the permeability of the substance was related to the rigidness of the lamellar structure. Furthermore, in experiments with lipid models using typical intercellular lipids, the mode of action could be different depending on the stereo activity of menthol. Liquid crystallization of the lamellar structure is one way to alleviate the barrier function of the skin. Therefore, by devising the components and mixing ratio of the transdermal/cosmetic formulation, it becomes possible for development of effective formulation.

Inhibitory Effect of Honeybee-Collected Pollen on Mast Cell Degranulation In Vivo and In Vitro

        Yasuko Ishikawa,Tomoko Tokura,Nobuhiro Nakano,Mutsuko Hara,Fran?is Niyonsaba,Hiroko Ushio,Yuji Yamamoto,Tadahiro Tadokoro,Ko Okumura,Hideoki Ogawa 한국식품영양과학회 2008 Journal of medicinal food Vol.11 No.1

Bee-collected pollen (bee pollen [BP]) has been used as a folk medicine for centuries against various diseases, including allergy. There is no study elucidating how BP exerts such an anti-allergic effect. Since mast cells play a central rolein the pathogenesis of various allergic diseases, we investigated the effect of BP on mast cell activation elicited by the Fc im-munoglobulin E (IgE) receptor (Fc.RI)-mediated pathways. The in vivo effect of orally administered BP on cutaneous mastcell activation was examined by passive cutaneous anaphylaxis reaction. In vitromast cell degranulation and IgE binding tomast cells and the status of protein tyrosine phosphorylation were examined using bone marrow-derived mast cells. Daily oraladministration of BP to mice significantly reduced the cutaneous mast cell activation elicited by IgE and specific antigens.BP also reduced in vitromast cell degranulation and tumor necrosis factor-. production by inhibiting IgE binding to Fc.RIon mast cells. The inhibitory effect of BP on mast cell degranulation by preventing IgE binding was confirmed by the re-duced levels of protein tyrosine phosphorylation, which occurred as downstream events in activated mast cells via Fc.RI.These results first revealed that the anti-allergic action of BP was exerted by inhibiting the Fc.RI-mediated activation of mastcells, which plays important roles, not only in the early phase, but also in the late phase of allergic reactions.
