        Design for a Dual-Frequency Antenna-in-Package

        For an antenna-in-package (AiP), via holes are used to connect the antenna ground and system ground. In this letter, a dual-frequency AiP with a U-slot embedded in the patch is proposed. By properly arranging three via holes under the non-radiating edge, an AiP with two resonant frequencies is realized. Then a U-slot is embedded in the patch to further improve the bandwidth of the AiP. To validate the proposed design, an AiP with the bandwidth of 4.49% at 2.45 GHz and 6.02% at 5.32 GHz is achieved and fabricated. The measured results agree with the simulated results.

        Experimental Study on Microstructure and Hydraulic Performance of Bentonite Modified Loess

        The impact of natural sodium bentonite on the microstructure, permeability and strengthcharacteristics of bentonite-modified loess (BML) were evaluated by scanning electron microscope(SEM) test, triaxial flexible wall permeability test, uniaxial compression test and direct sheartests. The experimental results indicate that bentonite can be used for loess solidificationattributed to its effective particle filling, water absorption and expansion characteristics. Thequantitative parameters of SEM images such as the average pore area, width, length andsurface porosity of BML declined first and then increased with bentonite content, and thelowest was observed at a bentonite content of 15%. The hydraulic conductivity of BMLdeclined with increasing bentonite content and was lower than the maximum allowable limitof 1.0 × 10−9 m/s. The uniaxial compressive strength and shear strength parameters of BMLincreased initially and subsequently declined as bentonite content increased. A normalizedprediction model was established for modified loess based on the correlation betweenmechanical characteristics and the microscopic pore parameters, which was verified to berational in estimating the macro- and micro-scale properties of BML. Therefore, when theanti-seepage landfill layers are constructed in the Loess Plateau area, 15% of bentonite isrecommended in modified loess, which has optimal impermeability and mechanical properties.

        Biosorption Behaviors of Biosorbents Based on Microorganisms Immobilized by Ca-alginate for Removing Lead (II) from Aqueous Solution

        Multiple microorganisms directly or treated with NaOH were immobilized by using Ca-alginate embedding to form biosorbents I and II, successively. The biosorption behaviors of biosorbents I and II for Pb(II)from aqueous solution were investigated in a batch system. Effects of solution pH, initial metal concentration, biosorbent dosage, contact time, temperature, and ionic strength on the adsorption process were considered to study the biosorption equilibrium, kinetics, thermodynamics, and mechanism of Pb(II) ion adsorption on the 2 types of biosorbents. The results showed that the adsorption capacity of biosorbent II for Pb(II) was higher than that of biosorbent I, and biosorbent II had a faster adsorption rate for Pb(II) ions. According to FTIR spectra, the carboxyl,amine, and hydroxyl groups on the biomass surface were involved in the biosorption of Pb(II). EDX analysis showed that ion exchange may be involved in the biosorption process, and the morphology observed by SEM micrograph of biosorbent I was completely different from that of biosorbent II. Desorption and regeneration experiments showed that the 2 types of biosorbents could be reused for 3 biosorption-desorption cycles without significant loss of their initial biosorption capacities.

        Elevated TRAF4 expression impaired LPS-induced autophagy in mesenchymal stem cells from ankylosing spondylitis patients

        Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a type of autoimmune disease that predominantly affects the spine and sacroiliac joints. However, the pathogenesis of AS remains unclear. Some evidence indicates that infection with bacteria, especially Gram-negative bacteria, may have an important role in the onset and progression of AS. Recently, many studies have demonstrated that mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) dysfunction may contribute to the pathogenesis of many rheumatic diseases. We previously demonstrated that MSCs from AS patients exhibited markedly enhanced osteogenic differentiation capacity in vitro under non-inflammatory conditions. However, the properties of MSCs from AS patients in an inflammatory environment have never been explored. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS), a proinflammatory substance derived from the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria, can alter the status and function of MSCs. However, whether MSCs from AS patients exhibit abnormal responses to LPS stimulation has not been reported. Autophagy is a lysosome-mediated catabolic process that participates in many physiological and pathological processes. The link between autophagy and AS remains largely unknown. The level of autophagy in ASMSCs after LPS stimulation remains to be addressed. In this study, we demonstrated that although the basal level of autophagy did not differ between MSCs from healthy donors (HDMSCs) and ASMSCs, LPS-induced autophagy was weaker in ASMSCs than in HDMSCs. Specifically, increased TRAF4 expression in ASMSCs impaired LPS-induced autophagy, potentially by inhibiting the phosphorylation of Beclin-1. These data may provide further insight into ASMSC dysfunction and the precise mechanism underlying the pathogenesis of AS.

        Five Inputs Code Lock Circuit Design Based on DNA Strand Displacement Mechanism

        In recent years, the development of biological computers is becoming faster and faster, in order to make the logical operation algorithms of biological computers more mature and stable, a new idea for the code lock logic circuit is proposed based on DNA strand displacement by using the dual-rail method. The code lock is designed by four input signals and one conversion input signal. Only when the four input codes are correct and the conversion signal code is turned on, the password lock will be in open state, otherwise the password lock will produce an alarm signal, stopping outside invasion timely. The information of key is processed to obtain the correct password; finally, the experimental simulation results are obtained by Visual DSD software. The results analysis show that the designed code lock circuit is effective, which may provide a good technical support and a good theoretical basis in biological computers development.

        Effects of Marbling on Meat Quality Characteristics and Intramuscular Connective Tissue of Beef Longissimus Muscle

        This study was designed to explore the effects of marbling on meat quality characteristics and intramuscular connective tissue of beef longissimus muscle. Chemical determinations, histological and mechanical measurements were performed on the raw and cooked meat at d 4 postmortem. The results showed that crude fat, collagen, fiber diameter and maximum transition temperature of intramuscular connective tissue increased (p<0.05) with the increase of marbling score. The cooking losses, collagen solubility, WBSF and perimysial thickness decreased (p<0.05) with the increasing marbling. WBSF correlated (p<0.05) with moisture, crude fat, collagen, cooking losses, sarcomere length and perimysial thickness. The development of marbling results in the decline in cooking losses, the avoidance of sarcomere shortening, and the disorganization of the perimysia, which accounts for the improvement of beef tenderness.

        A SEPIC Flyback DC-DC Converter with GaN Switching Device

        A high-efficiency interleaved DC–DC converter based on SEPIC topology is developed in the paper, which can be used for micro photovoltaic inverter. Two flyback transformers in parallel connection can be controlled with single gallium nitride (GaN) switching power device. This is especially useful for the cost-down solution for high power situation with multiple flyback transformers in parallel connection. Using the single GaN switching device for double flyback transformers can suppress the output voltage ripple, while reduce the cost. In the paper, the detailed theoretical derivation on the novel topology is conducted. The simulation on the converter is carried out to verify the theoretical analysis. Finally, the topology is implemented on PCB board, experimentally showing the feasibility of the proposed converter.

        Preparation of corn straw based spongy aerogel for spillage oil capture

        This work mainly focused on the preparation of a low-cost, ultralight absorbent from renewable corn straw and filter paper via a facile and environmental-friendly approach containing high-shear blending and freeze-drying operation. The physicochemical properties of aerogel were thoroughly examined by several characterization techniques. The satisfactory hydrophobicity of the spongy aerogel was attributed to the formation of polysiloxane on the surface of methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) by the silanization reaction. Owing to its superior features, such as ultralow density, high porosity, desirable hydrophobicity, the corn straw based spongy aerogel exhibited a remarkable absorption capacity for both crude oil (36 g/g) and common organic solvents including carbon tetrachloride (CCl4, 45 g/g), dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO, 24 g/g), N, N-dumethylformamide (DMF, 45 g/g). This might shed light on the design of efficient adsorbent for oil spills and organic pollutants to meet with the sustainable development.

        Experimental Investigation of the Deformation and Failure Behavior of a Tunnel Excavated in Mixed Strata Using Transparent Soft Rock

        To investigate the deformation and failure behavior of a tunnel excavated in mixed strata, transparent soft rock test and numerical simulations were performed. The distribution features of displacement and failure and the evolution laws were analyzed. In this study, a transparent material for simulating mixed strata was developed. The visualization of the spatial deformation inside rock masses will improve the understanding of this process. The tests suggest that the mechanical properties of transparent soft rock are similar to those of natural rock. Experiments on the isotropic and mixed strata conditions were carried out to study the deformation rules during tunnel boring machine (TBM) excavation. The test results show that the dominant deformation position and direction exist in isotropic and mixed strata. A shear slip band occurs in both mixed and isotropic strata but with different distributions. Finally, numerical simulations were conducted to study the failure process, and the damage pattern of the transparent soft rock experiment was similar to that of the numerical simulation. The interface of the softness and hardness layers controls the extension of rock damage.

        Effect of FTO Expression and Polymorphism on Fat Deposition in Suzhong Pigs

        Fat mass and obesity associated gene (FTO) plays an important role in appetite control and energy consumption in human and mice. In order to examine FTO expression influence on fat deposition in Suzhong pigs, FTO mRNA expression was detected in 16 tissues by RT-PCR, FTO protein expression was detected in 5 tissues by western blot, and association of FTO polymorphism with meat quality traits was analyzed in Suzhong populations with 714 records. RT-PCR results revealed that FTO mRNA was expressed in all sixteen tissues with significant differences (p<0.05), expression in backfat was significantly higher than that of any other tissue (p<0.05), and expression in longissimus dorsi muscle had the second highest significance level (p<0.05). Western blot results demonstrated that FTO protein was highly expressed in backfat and longissimus dorsi muscle. Furthermore, FTO mRNA and protein expression in tissues of high-fat pigs was significantly higher than that of low-fat pigs (p<0.05), suggesting FTO expression had advantageous effects on fat deposition. FTO polymorphism results evidenced that at A227G locus, G allele seemed to have advantageous effects on fat deposition, indicating it could be a significant candidate gene for improving pork quality in Suzhong pigs.
