        Transitional Percentage of Minute Volume as a Novel Predictor of Weaning from Mechanical Ventilation in Patients with Chronic Respiratory Failure

        Purpose: Some patients with respiratory failure fail initial weaning attempts and need prolonged mechanical ventilation (MV). Prolonged MV is associated with many complications and consumption of heathcare resources. Objective weaning indices help staffs to identify high-potential patients for weaning from the MV. Traditional weaning indices are not reliable in clinical practice. Transitional percentage of minute volume (TMV%) is a new index of the work of breathing. This study aimed to investigate the utility of TMV% in the prediction of weaning potential. Methods: This study was prospectively performed including all patients with prolonged MV. Researchers recorded their demographics, TMV%, respiratory parameters, Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II score, and laboratory data upon arrival at the respiratory care center. The factors associated with successful weaning were analyzed. Results: Out of the 120 patients included, 84 (70.0%) were successfully weaned from MV. Traditional weaning indices such as rapid shallow breathing index could not predict the weaning outcome. TMV% was a valuable parameter as patients with a lower TMV%, higher tidal volume, higher hemoglobin, lower blood urea nitrogen, and lower Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II scores had a higher rate of successful weaning. TMV%, tidal volume, and HCO3- levels were independent predictors of successful weaning, and the area under the curve was .79 in the logistic regression model. Conclusion: TMV% is a novel and effective predictor of successful weaning. Patients with lower TMV% had a higher MV weaning outcome. Once patients with a high potential for successful weaning are identified, they should be aggressively weaned from MV as soon as possible.

        추출용매에 따른 흑양파의 항산화 활성 비교

        The antioxidant activities of the ethanol, methanol, and water extracts of black onion were investigated. The highest extraction yield (28.56%) and total polyphenol content (13.5 mg/g) were found in the water extract. The water extract also showed the highest protective effect on the RAW 264.7 cell anti-inflammatory activity, and the water and ethanol extracts showed the highest reducing power. The water extract showed higher DPPHand ABTS radical scavenging activities (65.98 and 89.69%, respectively) than the other solvent extracts (ethanol, 47.77%; methanol, 66.12%). Hence, black onion can be used as a potent natural antioxidative source.

        갈변반응을 이용한 흑양파의 제조 및 물 추출물의 항산화 효과

        The main objective of this study was to manufacture black onions using different methods, and to analyze the color and physiological and antioxidant activities of their water extracts. Black onions were produced via high-temperature aging (70, 80, and 90°C). At 90°C, onions with different weights (large, 90-L; medium, 90-M; and small, 90-S) and small onions with different appearances (whole, 90-S-W; cut, 90-S-C; and peeled, 90-S-P) were also produced. The colorimetry measurements showed that the extract from the 90-S-C black onion had the highest ΔE value among all the extracts from all the black onion groups. The extract from the 90-S-C black onion had a 3.3 times higher total phenol content than that from the 70°C black onion extract (11.62 and 3.51 mg/g, respectively). The DPPH radical scavenging activities of the extracts from 90-S-W, 90-S-C, and 90-S-P were higher than those of the other black onion extracts, and the 90-S-C black onion extract had the highest level of 48.3% (at the concentration of 10 mg/ml). The 90-S-C black onion extract also had the highest level of antioxidant activities (ABTS radical scavenging activity, 0.84 mg AA eq/100 g, and nitrite scavenging ability, 49.8%). These results clearly demonstrated that 90-S-C was the best among the conditions used and that the water extract of the 90-S-C black onions had a significantly higher level of antioxidant activities than the extracts from the other black onions.

        양파김치 추출물 투여가 Streptozotocin 유발 당뇨병 흰쥐의 혈당강하 및 혈중지질 함량에 미치는 영향

        양파김치를 이용한 가공식품의 개발을 위해 streptozotocin(STZ)으로 유도한 당뇨병 흰쥐를 이용하여 양파김치 추출물 투여에 대한 혈당강하 및 지질성분의 함량 변화를 조사하였다. 체중변화는 정상군은 4주 사육기간 동안 지속적으로 증가하였으나, STZ 유도 당뇨대조군은 유의하게 감소되었다. 양파김치 추출물과 quercetin 투여군에서도 유의한 체중감소가 있었으나 투여군 간에 유의한 차이는 없었다. 혈당농도는 정상군에 비해 STZ로 유도한 당뇨흰쥐에서 유의하게 증가되었으며, 투여 2주에서부터 대조군에 비해 양파김치 추출물 투여군과 quercetin 투여군에서 유의하게 감소되었다. 그러나 식이농도 증가 및 투여군 간에 유의한 차이는 없었다. 소변량은 정상군에 비해 STZ로 유도한 당뇨흰쥐에서 유의하게 증가되었으나 양파김치 추출물 및 quercetin 투여군의 식이농도 증가에 유의한 차이는 없었다. 신장무게는 정상쥐에 비해 당뇨쥐에서 증대되었으며, 양파김치 추출물 및 quercetin 투여군에서 유의하게 낮은 수준을 나타내어 정상군과 차이가 없었다. 혈청 총콜레스테롤 및 중성지질은 정상쥐에 비해 STZ 유도 당뇨대조군에서 증가되었으나 양파김치 추출물 및 quercetin 투여군에서 낮은 수준을 나타내었다. 이러한 결과는 양파김치 추출물 섭취가 당뇨쥐에서 증가된 혈당 및 혈청 콜레스테롤 수준을 감소시킬 수 있음을 의미하는 것이다. The purpose of this study was carried out to examine the effects of onion kimchi extract supplementation on blood glucose level and serum lipid components in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats for 4 weeks. STZ was administered as a single dose (50 ㎎/㎏ BW) to induce diabetes, and the diabetic rats were divided into eight groups (normal, diabetic control, and six treatment groups). The dose of onion kimchi extract 100 (OK-100), 200 (OK-200), and 400 (OK-400) ㎎/㎏/day or quercetin as a main compound of onion 5 (Q-5), 10 (Q-10), and 20 (Q-20) ㎎/㎏/day were orally administered daily to STZ-induced diabetic rats for 4 weeks after STZ injection. The diabetic control rats (465.6 ㎎/dL) showed significantly higher blood glucose level than the normal rats (76.3 ㎎/dL) after 4 weeks, but was significantly reduced with onion kimchi extract and quercetin supplementation (p<0.001). Changes in body weight, kidney weight and urine volume were not significantly different in diabetic control rats, and in onion kimchi extract and quercetin treated rats. The serum total cholesterol levels of control were significantly decreased in onion kimchi extract and quercetin supplementation groups, respectively (p<0.001). The blood urea nitrogen level and urinary protein excretion in diabetic rats were not significant different among the groups. These results suggest that onion kimchi extract supplementation in STZ-induced diabetic rats may be a very important factor for the reduction of blood glucose and serum cholesterol profiles.

        新加坡小學華文字頻硏究

        新加坡因爲社會語言環境的改變進行了2004年和2011年兩次大規模的華文敎改, 由"少敎多學"到"樂學善用". 作者認爲, 這只是敎學策略上的突破, 其核心問題卽新加坡小學華文識字敎學"識什마"(字種)、"識多少"(字量)、"즘마識"(字序)三個最基本的問題병沒有解決. 本論文對新加坡2007年出版的『小學華文』12冊敎材中的核心單元部分、課外閱讀輔助讀物『記憶像一個箱子』、輔助刊物『新朋友』、『新天地』、『新列車』的封面閱讀篇章和華文報刊『聯合早報』中的頭版國際、國內和敎育新聞進行字頻調査, 建立了由這四種材料構成的數據庫, 分別從字種、字量、字序、覆蓋率、復現率等方面對閱讀篇章進行統計、分析與硏究, 報告目前新加坡小學識字敎材幷不符合新加坡本地的華文字頻規律的現狀, 探討如何使新加坡小學生識字敎材設計更具新加坡特色, 更加科學化、合理化、系統化, 幷提出建立新加坡『兒童高頻字表』, 把字表中的字融入敎材編寫過程中, 科學建序;再建立『兒童常用字表』, 把타融入敎案設計過程中, 結合"滾動式"識字敎學法, 使學習者更加有趣地學習, 從而體現新加坡敎育部大力提倡和推廣的"樂學"的敎學理念和"善用"的敎學主張. Singapore changing social language environment has brought about two major reforms to the Chinese language education namely "teach less and learn more" and "making learning interesting and more relevant". The objective is to motivate pupils to learn more and encourage the capable pupils to help the weaker pupils in the learning process. However, the author believes that this reform is just a breakthrough in teaching strategies, but the core problem is not resolved. The primary school Chinese literacy teaching in Singapore has not been resolved which include 3 basic aspects like word types, word content and word order. In this thesis, the author focuses on word frequency survey taken from the following: (1) 12 core units in the primary school Chinese text books from the Singapore Ministry of Education. (2) Reading books which are widely used by Singapore primary school "Memory is like a box". (3) The front page of the auxiliary publications including "New Friends", "New World ", "New Train". (4) The front page of the Singapore Chinese newspaper "Lianhe Zaobao" which includes international, domestic and educational information. Based on the word species, the amount of words, word order and coverage of the four databases, statistics are compiled, analyzed and researched. It`s noted that the current Chinese language literacy teaching in Singapore primary schools is not so adequate. The literacy teaching materials in Singapore can be made more adequate by making them more featured, more scientific, reasonable and systematic. The author proposes the creation of two unique charts relevant to the Singapore children. Firstly "children`s high-frequency words" chart to be used for literacy teaching materials and secondly" children`s common usage words" chart to integrate with literacy teaching using`` rolling strategy`` and put it into the lesson plan design process, so that learning is made more interesting. This goes hand in hand with the Ministry of Education promotion "making learning interesting and more relevant".

      • Investigation on alkalinity of pore solution and microstructure of hardened cement-slag pastes in purified water

        To evaluate the influence of slag on the alkalinity of pore solution and microstructure of concrete, this paper performs a leaching experiment on hardened cement-slag pastes (HCSP) slice specimens with different slag content in purified water. The pH value of pore solution, average porosity, morphology, phase composition and Ca/Si of HCSP specimens in the leaching process are measured by solid-liquid extraction, saturated-dried weighing, scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectrometry (SEM-EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Results shows that the addition of slag can mitigate an increase in porosity and a decrease in Ca/Si of HCSP in the leaching process. Besides, an appropriate slag content can improve the microstructure so as to obtain the optimum leaching resistance of HCSP, which can guarantee the suitable alkalinity of pore solution to prevent a premature corrosion of reinforced bar. The optimum slag content is 40% in HCSP with a water-binder ratio of 0.45, and an excessive slag causes a significant decrease in the alkalinity of pore solution, resulting in a loss of protection on reinforced bar in HCSP.

        흑양파로부터 항산화 활성 물질인 3,4-Dihydroxybenzoic acid의 분리 및 동정

        The antioxidant substance in black onion was identified. The assays that used 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2`-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzthiazo line-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS+) radicals showed that the ethyl acetate fraction of black onion methanol extract had a higher level of radical-scavenning activity than the other fractions. Two antioxidative compounds were purified and isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction via column chromatographies of silica gel and Sephadex LH-20 using the guided DPPH radical-scavenging assay. The isolated compounds were identified as 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid (1) and quercetin (2) based on mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance. The isolated compounds showed a high level of DPPH and ABTS+ radical-scavenging activity. Compound 2 had a higher level of radical-scavenging activity than 1.

        In view of the labor-intensive characteristics of the construction industry and the persistent negative image, the problems of continuous aging and manpower shortage in the domestic construction industry are becoming more and more serious, which must be solved for the survival of the domestic construction industry. China has made certain achievements in prefabricated buildings. Through this research, we describe the development process of China’s prefabricated buildings in different stages, and analyze the necessary policy promotion and standard support in the development of prefabricated buildings. Analyze and examine the necessary conditions for China’s prefabricated building achievements and success factors, and make better proposals for the development of the construction industry in South Korea.
