      • Surgical Outcomes for Hepatocellular Adenomas, the Experience of Ajou University

        Aims: Hepatocellular adenomas (HCAs) are rare benign tumors, tumor rupture and malignant transformation into hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs) are two major complications. The incidence of malignant transformation of HCAs into HCCs is 4%, male/female ratio is 10:1. Numerous researchers have focused on clarifying the mechanism of malignant transformation, β-catenin has been regarded as a major factor. In our institution, 8 cases of HCAs were performed surgical resection in our department. Postoperative pathologic findings revealed malignant transformation into HCCs in 6 cases, 75% (6/8) of malignant transformation is much more higher than 4% in previous study. Methods: 8 cases were divided into two groups, 6 cases of malignant transformation group (group A), and 2 cases of non-malignant transformation group (group B). We analyzed the differences between two groups including age, sex, creatine, albumin, total bilirubin, AST, ALT, AFP, PT, INR, ICG R15, recurrence, liver biopsy, tumor size. Results: By comparing the characteristics, there is no significant differences between malignant group and non-malignant group. However, the mean tumor size in group A and group B is 10.68 cm and 4.85 cm, respectively. Conclusions: Given that, we have only 8 cases of HCAs in this study, therefore, we did not observed the significant differences between two groups in tumor size. We still consider that tumor size could be a risk factor in malignant transformation. The purpose of this study is to find the major gene mutations by Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), to further understand the mechanism of malignant transformation.

      • A CAD-CAM technique for conversion of interim-to-definitive restoration in patients with complete edentulism

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>An interim restoration is a prototype for the definitive prosthesis and preserves the occlusal information and the original vertical dimension of the occlusion. Several techniques have been developed to transfer the information from implant-supported fixed interim to definitive restoration. However, these conventional techniques have limitations, and they are time-consuming, require making impressions and stone casts, and mounting in an articulator. The purpose of this article was to describe a digital technique to accurately transfer the information from complete-arch implant interim restoration to definitive restorations without using definitive casts.</P>

      • Analysis of Integrating the Yan'an Spirit into University Education in China's New Era

        The Yan'an Spirit is a unique ideological and cultural phenomenon that emerged during the period of China's War of Resistance against Japan. It represents the experience summary and theoretical innovation of the Chinese nation in the Yan'an area. The Yan'an Spirit is an important part of China's spiritual heritage with rich connotations. It not only enabled the Chinese nation to defeat the Japanese invaders in conjunction with the international community during World War II, but also helped to establish a more confident national identity, providing great impetus for China's modernization. Today, university education in China has the mission of cultivating students. Integrating the Yan'an Spirit into university education can help college students strengthen their ideals and beliefs, and persist in seeking truth from facts. Therefore, in the new era, it is necessary to combine the characteristics of China's university education with the actual situation of universities' own development, and continually explore innovative paths to integrate the Yan'an Spirit into university education in China.

        Acupuncture combined with speech rehabilitation training for post-stroke dysarthria: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

        Background: The evidence of Acupuncture combined with speech rehabilitation training for post-stroke dysarthria is insufficient and there is no consensus on its efficacy. Methods: We searched seven Chinese and English medicine databases for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) from their inception to November 2019. The primary outcome measure was the clinical response rate, assessed with the Frenchay Dysarthria Assessment (FDA) tool. We assessed risk of bias using the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool. We used GRADE to assess the certainty of evidence (CoE). Results: Thirty studies were included in this systematic review, 23 of which were pooled in meta-analysis. Acupuncture combined with speech rehabilitation training is likely beneficial for was response rate (n = 1685; RR = 1.37; 95% CI [1.29, 1.46], P < 0.01, I2 = 34%; 17 studies, low CoE) compared to speech rehabilitation treatment alone. Conclusion: The combination of acupuncture and speech rehabilitation training may improve total response rate of stroke patients with dysarthria. However, more RCTs with rigorous study design and validated outcome measures are needed to confirm the evidence.

        Knockdown of Pyruvate Kinase M Inhibits Cell Growth and Migration by Reducing NF-kB Activity in Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Cells

        Altered genetic features in cancer cells lead to a high rate of aerobic glycolysis and metabolic reprogramming that is essential for increased cancer cell viability and rapid proliferation. Pyruvate kinase muscle (PKM) is a rate-limiting enzyme in the final step of glycolysis. Herein, we report that PKM is a potential therapeutic target in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) cells. We found that PKM1 or PKM2 is highly expressed in TNBC tissues or cells. Knockdown of PKM significantly suppressed cell proliferation and migration, and strongly reduced S phase and induced G2 phase cell cycle arrest by reducing phosphorylation of the CDC2 protein in TNBC cells. Additionally, knockdown of PKM significantly suppressed NF-kB (nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells) activity by reducing the phosphorylation of p65 at serine 536, and also decreased the expression of NF-kB target genes. Taken together, PKM is a potential target that may have therapeutic implications for TNBC cells.

        Deep blue organic light emitting diode based on anthracene derivative as a dopant

        This letter presents a deep blue organic light emitting diode which was fabricated by using 9,10-di(2-naphthyl)anthracene as a dopant and 4,4'-N,N'-dicarbazole-biphenyl as a host. The Commission Internationale de l’Eclairage coordinates of (0.1516, 0.0836) were achieved in the cell, which is very close to the National Television Standards Committee standard of (0.14, 0.08). Meanwhile, maximum luminance over 6500 cd/cm2 and maximum current efficiency of 3.5 cd/A were also obtained.       • Digital immediate denture: A clinical report

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Fabricating an immediate complete denture in the conventional manner may be complicated and difficult. The purpose of this article was to describe a fully digital workflow used to fabricate an immediate complete denture before removing the teeth and without the use of conventional impressions or stone casts. The digital data for the workflow were acquired using an intraoral scanner and were then used to design the denture base and teeth after deleting any remaining tooth images from the virtual 3-dimensional image of the jaw. The resulting data were exported to a milling machine for denture fabrication.</P>

      • Digital Workflow for Computer-Guided Implant Surgery in Edentulous Patients: A Case Report

        <P><B>Purpose</B></P> <P>The purpose of this article was to describe a fully digital workflow used to perform computer-guided flapless implant placement in an edentulous patient without the use of conventional impressions, models, or a radiographic guide.</P> <P><B>Materials and Methods</B></P> <P>Digital data for the workflow were acquired using an intraoral scanner and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). The image fusion of the intraoral scan data and CBCT data was performed by matching resin markers placed in the patient's mouth.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>The definitive digital data were used to design a prosthetically driven implant position, surgical template, and computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing fabricated fixed dental prosthesis.</P> <P><B>Conclusion</B></P> <P>The authors believe this is the first published case describing such a technique in computer-guided flapless implant surgery for edentulous patients.</P>

      • Accuracy of computer-guided implant placement in anterior regions

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Statement of problem</B></P> <P>Implant placement in the anterior regions is often challenging because of limited space and bone volume availability.</P> <P><B>Purpose</B></P> <P>The purpose of this clinical study was to investigate the accuracy of computer-guided surgery with a long drill key to place implants in the anterior regions.</P> <P><B>Material and methods</B></P> <P>Computer-guided implant surgery was performed for 32 participants requiring implants in anterior regions. The procedure involved using a 12-mm-long drill key to guide the 2.0-mm-diameter drill. Deviations between the planned and actual implant positions were evaluated by using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans obtained before and after surgery. A <I>t</I> test was used for comparisons between the planned and placed implants and to determine the influence of the arch (maxilla/mandible) and time (immediate/delayed) on accuracy.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>A total of 40 implants (20 implants in the maxilla and 20 implants in the mandible) were placed. The mean linear deviation was 0.46 mm (range, 0 to 1.15 mm) for the implant shoulder and 0.67 mm (range, 0.14 to 1.19 mm) for the implant apex. The mean angular deviation was 1.40 degrees (range, 0.30 to 2.57 degrees). The mean depth deviation was 0.15 mm (range, 0.10 to 0.82 mm).</P> <P><B>Conclusions</B></P> <P>This clinical study showed that the accuracy of computer-guided implant placement may be enhanced by using a long drill key and may thus enable more accurate implant placement in anterior regions.</P>
