• Nonsurgical correction of a severe anterior deep overbite accompanied by a gummy smile and posterior scissor bite using a miniscrew-assisted straight-wire technique in an adult high-angle case

        Xue-Dong Wang,Jie-Ni Zhang,Da-Wei Liu,Fei-fei Lei,Yan-Heng Zhou 대한치과교정학회 2016 대한치과교정학회지 Vol.46 No.4

In the present report, we describe the successful use of miniscrews to achieve vertical control in combination with the conventional sliding MBTTM straightwire technique for the treatment of a 26-year-old Chinese woman with a very high mandibular plane angle, deep overbite, retrognathic mandible with backward rotation, prognathic maxilla, and gummy smile. The patient exhibited skeletal Class II malocclusion. Orthodontic miniscrews were placed in the maxillary anterior and posterior segments to provide rigid anchorage and vertical control through intrusion of the incisors and molars. Intrusion and torque control of the maxillary incisors relieved the deep overbite and corrected the gummy smile, while intrusion of the maxillary molars aided in counterclockwise rotation of the mandibular plane, which consequently resulted in an improved facial profile. After 3.5 years of retention, we observed a stable, well-aligned dentition with ideal intercuspation and more harmonious facial contours. Thus, we were able to achieve a satisfactory occlusion, a significantly improved facial profile, and an attractive smile for this patient. The findings from this case suggest that nonsurgical correction using miniscrew anchorage is an effective approach for camouflage treatment of high-angle cases with skeletal Class II malocclusion.

Temporal and spatial impact of Spartina alterniflora invasion on methanogens community in Chongming Island, China

        Xue Ping Chen,Jing Sun,Yi Wang,Heng Yang Zhang,Chi Quan He,Xiao Yan Liu,Nai Shun Bu,Xi-En Long 한국미생물학회 2018 The journal of microbiology Vol.56 No.7

Methane production by methanogens in wetland is recognized as a significant contributor to global warming. Spartina alterniflora (S. alterniflora), which is an invasion plant in China’s wetland, was reported to have enormous effects on methane production. But studies on shifts in the methanogen community in response to S. alterniflora invasion at temporal and spatial scales in the initial invasion years are rare. Sediments derived from the invasive species S. alterniflora and the native species Phragmites australis (P. australis) in pairwise sites and an invasion chronosequence patch (4 years) were analyzed to investigate the abundance and community structure of methanogens using quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) and Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) cloning of the methyl-coenzyme M reductase A (mcrA) gene. For the pairwise sites, the abundance of methanogens in S. alterniflora soils was lower than that of P. australis soils. For the chronosequence patch, the abundance and diversity of methanogens was highest in the soil subjected to two years invasion, in which we detected some rare groups including Methanocellales and Methanococcales. These results indicated a priming effect at the initial invasion stages of S. alterniflora for microorganisms in the soil, which was also supported by the diverse root exudates. The shifts of methanogen communities after S. alterniflora invasion were due to changes in pH, salinity and sulfate. The results indicate that root exudates from S. alterniflora have a priming effect on methanogens in the initial years after invasion, and the predominate methylotrophic groups (Methanosarcinales) may adapt to the availability of diverse substrates and reflects the potential for high methane production after invasion by S. alterniflora.

Analytical solution for natural frequency of monopile supported wind turbine towers

        Xue-Ning Rong,Ri-Qing Xu,Heng-Yu Wang,Su-Yang Feng 한국풍공학회 2017 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.25 No.5

In this study an analytical expression is derived for the natural frequency of the wind turbine towers supported on flexible foundation. The derivation is based on a Euler-Bernoulli beam model where the foundation is represented by a stiffness matrix. Previously the natural frequency of such a model is obtained from numerical or empirical method. The new expression is based on pure physical parameters and thus can be used for a quick assessment of the natural frequencies of both the real turbines and the small-scale models. Furthermore, a relationship between the diagonal and non-diagonal element in the stiffness matrix is introduced, so that the foundation stiffness can be obtained from either the p-y analysis or the loading test. The results of the proposed expression are compared with the measured frequencies of six real or model turbines reported in the literature. The comparison shows that the proposed analytical expression predicts the natural frequency with reasonable accuracy. For two of the model turbines, some errors were observed which might be attributed to the difference between the dynamic and static modulus of saturated soils. The proposed analytical solution is quite simple to use, and it is shown to be more reasonable than the analytical and the empirical formulas available in the literature.

      • 议员岁费保障与国会污名化后的毁弃

薛恒 동의대학교 인문과학연구소 2012 인간과 문화 연구 Vol.20 No.-

“Annuity” is the remuneration of Members of Congress for them full-time work in Republic of China and it is also their main source of livelihood. However, Annuity never released. The result led to embarrassment of lives to most ordinary Members and them “for handout”. Congress was destroyed because Cao Kun bribery, Members of income insecurity is indeed important reason. The moral decay brought about by the lack of economic base of the Members group, reflecting the “Republican” and “Constitutional” road tough distress in modern China after overthrow the monarchy.

Adaptive Dynamic Surface Control for Finite-time Tracking of Uncertain Nonlinear Systems with Dead-zone Inputs and Actuator Faults

        Guangming Xue,Funing Lin,Shenggang Li,Heng Liu 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2021 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.19 No.8

In this paper, a finite-time tracking control scheme for perturbed undetermined nonlinear systems governed by dead-zone inputs and actuator faults is investigated. By means of dynamic surface control technique, a suitable adaptive neural network controller is introduced, which guarantees that all signals in the closed-loop system are bounded, and that all state trajectories of the error dynamics converge to a small region in the sense of semi-globally practically finite-time stabilization. Finally, a numerical simulation is taken into consideration for the reliability of the proposed methodology.

Evolutionary Game Model of Private Capital Investment in Urban Public Transportation

        Yunqiang Xue,Hongzhi Guan,Jonathan Corey,Heng Wei 대한토목학회 2018 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.22 No.9

To address the previous researches’ shortcomings on private capital investment in public transportation, a new private capital investment method in public transportation considering passenger value is proposed. An Evolutionary Game Model (EGM) is constructed to quantify the impacts of private capital investment. Evolutionary Game Theory (EGT) supposes players are bounded rational; therefore EGM is more in accordance with the real situation. Jinan city is detailed as a case study to show how public and private sectors change their strategies. Model results show that the proposed investment strategy is superior to the traditional one and is evolutionary stable, thus the strategy should be encouraged. The EGM established in this paper provides a quantitative analysis tool for administrators and researchers to guide investment strategies of private capital in public transportation and lays the foundation for further research.

      • Increased Serotonin Signaling Contributes to the Warburg Effect in Pancreatic Tumor Cells Under Metabolic Stress and Promotes Growth of Pancreatic Tumors in Mice

        Jiang, Shu-Heng,Li, Jun,Dong, Fang-Yuan,Yang, Jian-Yu,Liu, De-Jun,Yang, Xiao-Mei,Wang, Ya-Hui,Yang, Min-Wei,Fu, Xue-Liang,Zhang, Xiao-Xin,Li, Qing,Pang, Xiu-Feng,Huo, Yan-Miao,Li, Jiao,Zhang, Jun-Feng Elsevier 2017 Gastroenterology Vol.153 No.1

Background & Aims

Desmoplasia and poor vascularity cause severe metabolic stress in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas (PDACs). Serotonin (5-HT) is a neuromodulator with neurotransmitter and neuroendocrine functions that contributes to tumorigenesis. We investigated the role of 5-HT signaling in the growth of pancreatic tumors.

Methods

We measured the levels of proteins that regulate 5-HT synthesis, packaging, and degradation in pancreata from KrasG12D/+/Trp53R172H/+/Pdx1-Cre (KPC) mice, which develop pancreatic tumors, as well as in PDAC cell lines and a tissue microarray containing 81 human PDAC samples. We also analyzed expression levels of proteins involved in 5-HT synthesis and degradation by immunohistochemical analysis of a tissue microarray containing 311 PDAC specimens, and associated expression levels with patient survival times. 5-HT level in 14 matched PDAC tumor and non-tumor tissues were analyzed by ELISA. PDAC cell lines were incubated with 5-HT and cell survival and apoptosis were measured. We analyzed expression of the 5-HT receptor HTR2B in PDAC cells and effects of receptor agonists and antagonists, as well as HTR2B knockdown with small hairpin RNAs. We determined the effects of 5-HT stimulation on gene expression profiles of BxPC-3 cells. Regulation of glycolysis by 5-HT signaling via HTR2B was assessed by immunofluorescence and immunoprecipitation analyses, as well as by determination of the extracellular acid ratio, glucose consumption, and lactate production. Primary PDACs, with or without exposure to SB204741 (a selective antagonist of HTR2B), were grown as xenograft tumors in mice, and SB204741 was administered to tumor-bearing KPC mice; tumor growth and metabolism were measured by imaging analyses.

Results

In immunohistochemical analysis of a tissue microarray of PDAC specimens, increased levels of TPH1 and decreased level of MAOA, which regulate 5-HT synthesis and degradation, correlated with stage and size of PDACs and shorter patient survival time. We found levels of 5-HT to be increased in human PDAC tissues compared with non-tumor pancreatic tissues, and PDAC cell lines compared with non-transformed pancreatic cells. Incubation of PDAC cell lines with 5-HT increased proliferation and prevented apoptosis. Agonists of HTR2B, but not other 5-HT receptors, promoted proliferation and prevented apoptosis of PDAC cells. Knockdown of HTR2B in PDAC cells, or incubation of cells with HTR2B inhibitors, reduced their growth as xenograft tumors in mice. We observed a correlation between 5-HT and glycolytic flux in PDAC cells; levels of metabolic enzymes involved in glycolysis, the phosphate pentose pathway, and hexosamine biosynthesis pathway increased significantly in PDAC cells following 5-HT stimulation. 5-HT stimulation led to formation of the HTR2B–LYN–p85 complex, which increased PI3K–Akt–mTOR signaling and the Warburg effect by increasing protein levels of MYC and HIF1A. Administration of SB204741 to KPC mice slowed growth and metabolism of established pancreatic tumors and prolonged survival of the mice.

Conclusions

Human PDACs have increased levels of 5-HT, and PDAC cells increase expression of its receptor, HTR2B. These increases allow for tumor glycolysis under metabolic stress and promote growth of pancreatic tumors and PDAC xenograft tumors in mice.
