        Wavelet-transform-based damping identification of a super-tall building under strong wind loads

        A new method is proposed in this study for estimating the damping ratio of a super tall building under strong wind loads with short-time measured acceleration signals. This method incorporates two main steps. Firstly, the power spectral density of wind-induced acceleration response is obtained by the wavelet transform, then the dynamic characteristics including the natural frequency and damping ratio for the first vibration mode are estimated by a nonlinear regression analysis on the power spectral density. A numerical simulation illustrated that the damping ratios identified by the wavelet spectrum are superior in precision and stability to those values obtained from Welch's periodogram spectrum. To verify the efficiency of the proposed method, wind-induced acceleration responses of the Guangzhou West Tower (GZWT) measured in the field during Typhoon Usagi, which affected this building on September 22, 2013, were used. The damping ratios identified varied from 0.38% to 0.61% in direction 1 and from 0.22% to 0.59% in direction 2. This information is expected to be of considerable interest and practical use for engineers and researchers involved in the wind-resistant design of super-tall buildings.

        Amplitude dependency of damping of tall structures by the random decrement technique

        This study focuses on the amplitude dependency of damping of tall structures by the random decrement technique (RDT). Many researchers have adopted RDT to establish the amplitude dependency of damping ratios in super-tall buildings under strong wind loads. In this study, a series of simulated examples were analyzed to examine the reliability of this method. Results show that damping ratios increase as vibration amplitudes increase in several cases; however, the damping ratios in the simulated signals were preset as constants. This finding reveals that this method and the derived amplitude-dependent damping ratio characteristics are unreliable. Moreover, this method would obviously yield misleading results if the simulated signals contain Gaussian white noise. Full-scale measurements on a super-tall building were conducted during four typhoons, and the recorded data were analyzed to observe the amplitude dependency of damping ratio. Relatively wide scatter is observed in the resulting damping ratios, and the damping ratios do not appear to have an obvious nonlinear relationship with vibration amplitude. Numerical simulation and field measurement results indicate that the widely-used method for establishing the amplitude-dependent damping characteristics of super-tall buildings and the conclusions derived from it might be questionable at the least. More field-measured data must be collected under strong wind loads, and the damping characteristics of super-tall buildings should be investigated further.

        《文选》及李善注所涉神话的数据统计与分析

        In the present study of anthology, even few scholars have been studying the myth involved in Wen Xuan and its annotated version. The results of the studies are still rare, There are over 140 workers poetries with mythological images in over 700 works which included in Wen Xuan, it was 20% of the total. And the above-mentioned 140 poetries, most of which are annotated by Li Shan, richly embellished with quotations and allusions to classical mythology in poems. The Cbu Ci that has been most frequently quoted it, secondarily Shan Hai Jing, thirdly Huai Nan Zi. Zhuang Zi has come in the fourth. A "Book of Myth" in Wen Xuan, which annotated by Li Shan, mentioned case of myth, and The Chu Ci, Shan Hai Jing and Huai Nan Zi from which over 10 types of myth were quoted, just Shan Hai Jing instead of The Chu Ci had held the first position. Of the 48 kinds of myths in the Wen Xuan by Li Shan annotated, "natural myth was the most, followed by the social myth", then "goddess myth", "creation myth" at least, with only three kinds. Most work s of Wen Xuan were recorded in Two Han Wei Jin Southern and Northern Dynasties, most poems with mythological images were also recorded in the same period. According to the above analysis. Two Han Wei Jin Southern and Northern Dynasties, was not only an important period that Chinese ancient myth was developed evolved, but also an important period that mythology and ancient literature linked by a close relationship.

      • Comorbidity Relationship to Outcome of Radical Cystectomy in Chinese: a Single Institution Study with the ACE-27 Comorbidity Index

        To determine the relationship between comorbidity and outcome after radical cystectomy in Chinese patients by using the Adult Comorbidity Evaluation (ACE)-27 index. Two-hundred-and-forty-six patients treated with radical cystectomy at the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, Hunan Province, China between 2000 and 2010 were retrospectively analyzed. Medical records were reviewed for age, gender, delayed time of radical cystectomy, urinary diversion type, pelvic lymphadenectomy status, TNM stage, and pathological grade. Comorbidity information was assessed by the ACE-27 index. The outcome measurement was overall survival. Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression analyses were used to determine the association between comorbidity and outcome. The study population consisted of 215 (87.40%) males and 31 (12.60%) females with a mean age of $62{\pm}11$ years. Median duration of follow-up was $47{\pm}31$ months. A total of 151 (61.38%) patents died during follow-up. Of those, 118 (47.97%) had at least one comorbidity. According to the ACE-27 scores, 128 (52.03%) patients had no comorbidity, 79 (32.11%) had mild, 33 (13.41%) had moderate, and 6 (2.45%) had severe comorbidities. Multivariate analysis indicated that moderate (p=0.002) and severe (p<0.001) comorbidity was significantly associated with decreased overall survival. In addition, age ${\geq}70$ years (p=0.002), delayed time of radical cystectomy >12 weeks (p=0.044), pelvic lymphadenectomy status (p=0.014), and TNM stage >T3 (p<0.001) were determined to be independent risk factors of overall survival. Increasing severity of comorbidity statistically correlated with decreased overall survival after radical cystectomy.

        Under the pressure of business competition and effectiveness, more and more organizations in the world are likely to apply modern software such as enterprise resource planning (ERP) which can help them to create better organizing practice, better managing capabilities of administrators, and better operations of personnel. In Vietnam, many firms are afraid to install it and the number of firms adopting this software is limited mainly due to the insufficient scientific evidence of the successful implementation of ERP. This study aims to identify and measure the factors influencing the successful implementation of ERP of firms in Vietnam. Qualitative research methodology combined with quantitative research methodology is used. The data are surveyed with 343 administrators of 45 organizations that have successfully deployed ERP in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh cities. Of these 19 were excluded from analyses due to unsatisfactory responses, and only 324 were used for statistical processing. The collected data were processed by using the SPSS software. The result of the study shows that there are six factors affecting the successful implementation of ERP of firms in Vietnam, (ranked in descending order of importance), they are top management commitment and support, business process re-engineering, user involvement, project management board, vendor support, and suitability of software and hardware.

        Inhibitory Activity of Plantago major L. on Angiotensin I-converting Enzyme

        Eight compounds were isolated from methanol extract of Plantago major L. leaves and investigated for their ability to inhibit angiotensin I-converting enzyme activity. Among them, compound 1 showed the most potent inhibition with rate of 28.06 ± 0.21% at a concentration of 100 μM. Compounds 2 and 8 exhibited weak activities. These results suggest that compound 1 might contribute to the ability of P. major to inhibit the activity of angiotensin I- converting enzyme.

        Cytotoxic Oleane-type Triterpene Saponins from Glochidion eriocarpum

        The anticancer activity of ten compounds from the aerial parts of Glochidion eriocarpum were evaluated on two human cancer cell lines, HL-60 and HCT-116. Compounds 1-4 displayed highly potent cytotoxic activity on the HCT-116 cancer cell line with IC50 values ranging of 0.41~1.16 μM. Compounds 1-4 significantly inhibited the HL-60 cell line with IC50 values ranging of 4.51~6.33 μM. These results suggested that the benzoyl group at the C-22 position in oleane-type triterpene saponins was essential for cytotoxicity towards tumor cells. Moreover, compounds 2 and 3 showed more potent cytotoxicity than compounds 1 and 4 against HL-60 and HCT-116 cells. With respect to the mechanism underlying cytotoxicity, compounds 1-4 increased chromatin condensation, a typical apoptotic characteristic in HL-60 and HCT-116 cells. In the mechanism of apoptosis induction, compounds 1-4 reduced Bcl-2expression, whereas the expression of Bax was increased compared to controls in HCT-116 cells. In addition, compounds 1-4 decreased the level of procaspase-3. The cleavage of poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP), a vital substrate of effector caspase, was observed in HCT-116 cells. Furthermore, the induction of apoptosis was also accompanied by an activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) and p38 kinase in HCT-116 cells. These findings provide evidence demonstrating that the pro-apoptotic effects of compounds 1-4 are mediated through the activation of ERK and p38 in HCT-116 cells.         Phenylpropanoid Glycosides from Heterosmilax erythrantha and Their Antioxidant Activity

        By various chromatographic methods, one new phenylpropanoid glycoside, heterosmilaside(1), two known phenylpropanoid glycosides, helonioside B (2), and 2',6'-diacetyl-3,6-diferuloyl sucrose (3), and three known flavonoids, isoquercetin (4), quercetin-3-O-β-D-glucuronopyranoside (5), and quercetin-3-O-(2''-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl)-β-D-glucuronopyranoside (6) were isolated from the methanolic extract of the aerial part of Heterosmilax erythrantha Baill. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic analyses. All the isolated compounds were tested for antioxidant activity in the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging assay. Among them, compounds 5 and 6 showed significant antioxidant activity with SC50 values of 3.7 and 6.5 μg/mL, respectively.

        Inhibition of Nuclear Transcription Factor-jB and Activation of Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptors in HepG2 Cells by Cucurbitane-Type Triterpene Glycosides from Momordica charantia

        Momordica charantia is used to treat various diseases, including inflammatory conditions. Previous reports indicated that the extract of this plant inhibits activation of nuclear transcription factor-jB (NF-jB) but activates peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR). Additionally, cucurbitane-type triterpene glycosides are the main bioactive components of the fruit of M. charantia. Therefore, we investigated the anti-inflammatory activity of 17 cucurbitane-type triterpene glycosides (1–17) isolated from this plant. Their inhibition of NF-jB and activation of PPAR activities in HepG2 cells were measured using luciferase reporter and PPAR subtype transactivation assays. Compounds 6 and 8 were found to inhibit NF-jB activation stimulated by tumor necrosis factor-a (TNFa) in a dose-dependent manner. With 50% inhibition concentration (IC50) values of 0.4 lM, compounds 6 and 8 were more potent inhibitors than the positive control, sulfasalazine (IC50 = 0.9lM). Compounds 4, 6, and 8 also inhibited TNFa-induced expressions of inducible nitric oxide synthase and cyclooxygenase-2mRNA. However, only compound 13 significantly increased PPARc transactivation.

      • A New Monoterpenoid Glycoside from <i>Myrica esculenta</i> and the Inhibition of Angiotensin I-Converting Enzyme

        <P>One new monoterpenoid glycoside, myresculoside (<B>1</B>), and eleven known compounds, were isolated from methanol extract of <I>Myrica esculenta</I> leaves by repeated column chromatography. The effects of these compounds on angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibition were investigated. Compounds <B>3</B> and <B>4</B> showed the most potent ACE inhibition with rates of 29.97% and 25.63% at concentration of 100 μ<SMALL>M</SMALL>, respectively. Compounds <B>5</B>, <B>6</B>, and <B>11</B> showed weak activity with inhibitory rates of 0.07—1.41% at concentration of 100 μ<SMALL>M</SMALL>.</P>
