Effect of Externality in Multiplex Networks on One-layer Synchronization

        Xin Jiang,Meng Li,Zhiming Zheng,Yifang Ma,Lili Ma 한국물리학회 2015 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.66 No.11

Synchronization phenomenon plays an important role in the dynamic process on complex networks. In this letter, we consider synchronization under multiplex structures and explore the effect of external parts on the multilayered Kuramoto model with positive correlation between frequencies and degree. We show that large and strong mixing parts of the external layer may put off synchronization while the coupling strength of external layers has an accelerating, but limited, influence on synchronization. In particular, an explosive synchronization can be obtained by weakening the co-evolution coupling strength. The transition tends to be smooth when the co-evolution coupling strength increases. Our findings indicate that externality from multiplex networks, especially the mixing parts, and the co-evolution coupling strength should be of importance for synchronization on one certain layer.

A Novel Mutation p.L461P in KRT5 Causing Localized Epidermolysis Bullosa Simplex

( Xin Jiang ),( Yingyu Zhu ),( Huihui Sun ),( Feng Gu ) 대한피부과학회 2021 Annals of Dermatology Vol.33 No.1

Background: Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a rare genetic disease with widely different clinical manifestations, but the relationship between genotype and phenotype is not fully understood. In the present study, we recruited a Chinese family in which two members had been diagnosed with localized EB simplex (EBS), with clinical manifestation, including blisters and erosions on the soles of the feet since infancy. Objective: To identify and confirm the genetic variation in a Chinese family diagnosed as localized EBS. Methods: Our study included two patients, other healthy members of the family, and 100 normal controls. Genomic DNA samples were isolated from each participant, and then polymerase chain reaction (PCR) direct sequencing was performed. Results: The results of PCR direct sequencing revealed a novel heterozygous missense mutation in codon 461 of exon 7 of KRT5 (c.1382T>C), which led to an amino acid change (p.L461P) in the patients with EBS but was absent in unaffected family members and 100 unrelated control samples. Conclusion: The present study broadens the mutational spectrum of EBS, and this knowledge could be harnessed for prenatal screening, gene diagnosis, and gene therapy for localized EBS. Saturating Composite Disturbance-Observer-Based Control and H∞ Control for Discrete Time-delay Systems with Nonlinearity

        Xinjiang Wei,Huifeng Zhang,Lei Guo 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2009 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.7 No.5

This note is concerned with a saturating composite disturbance-observer-based control (DOBC) and H∞ control for a class of discrete time-delay systems with nonlinearity and disturbances. The disturbances are supposed to include two parts. One in the input channel is generated by an exogenous system with uncertainty, which can represent the harmonic signals with modeling perturbations. The other is supposed to have the bounded H₂norm, which can represent parametric uncertainties and external disturbance existing in the controlled object. The design approaches of reduced-order disturbance observer are presented for the estimation of the disturbance. By composite control law with saturation, the disturbances can be rejected and attenuated, simultaneously, the desired dynamic performances can be guaranteed for discrete time-delay systems with known and unknown nonlinear dynamics, respectively. Simulation for a flight control system is provided to show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme compared with the previous schemes.

      • Anisotropic Lattice Thermal Conductivity and Suppressed Acoustic Phonons in MOF-74 from First Principles

        Wang, Xinjiang,Guo, Ruiqiang,Xu, Dongyan,Chung, JaeDong,Kaviany, Massoud,Huang, Baoling American Chemical Society 2015 The Journal of Physical Chemistry Part C Vol.119 No.46

<P>The thermal transport properties of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) developed for molecular storage and catalytic separations play an important role in adsorption or catalysis processes but are rarely reported. We calculate the anisotropic thermal conductivities (κ) of water-stable Zn-MOF-74 with the Boltzmann transport equation and the density-functional-based tight-binding (DFTB) method, which allows for a sufficiently large number of atoms in the simulations without much compromise on accuracy. We find an anisotropic κ of 0.44 and 0.68 W/m·K at 300 K, across and along the pore directions, with acoustic contributions of 8% and 30%, respectively. These unusually low acoustic contributions are explained by the rattling-like behavior of phonons with large vibrational amplitude, low group velocity, and large scattering rate, which are caused by the unique 1-D tubing bundle structure. On the other hand, the cylindrical pores enable larger phonon speed and higher directional structural rigidity along the pore direction, leading to a higher κ. The frequency-accumulated, directional κ is explained using the spectral analysis and correlated to the structure characteristics.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/jpccck/2015/jpccck.2015.119.issue-46/acs.jpcc.5b08675/production/images/medium/jp-2015-08675m_0009.gif'></P>

Efficient Compression Algorithm with Limited Resource for Continuous Surveillance

( Ling Yin ),( Chuanren Liu ),( Xinjiang Lu ),( Jiafeng Chen ),( Caixing Liu ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2016 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.10 No.11

Energy efficiency of resource-constrained wireless sensor networks is critical in applications such as real-time monitoring/surveillance. To improve the energy efficiency and reduce the energy consumption, the time series data can be compressed before transmission. However, most of the compression algorithms for time series data were developed only for single variate scenarios, while in practice there are often multiple sensor nodes in one application and the collected data is actually multivariate time series. In this paper, we propose to compress the time series data by the Lasso (least absolute shrinkage and selection operator) approximation. We show that, our approach can be naturally extended for compressing the multivariate time series data. Our extension is novel since it constructs an optimal projection of the original multivariates where the best energy efficiency can be realized. The two algorithms are named by ULasso (Univariate Lasso) and MLasso (Multivariate Lasso), for which we also provide practical guidance for parameter selection. Finally, empirically evaluation is implemented with several publicly available real-world data sets from different application domains. We quantify the algorithm performance by measuring the approximation error, compression ratio, and computation complexity. The results show that ULasso and MLasso are superior to or at least equivalent to compression performance of LTC and PLAMlis. Particularly, MLasso can significantly reduce the smooth multivariate time series data, without breaking the major trends and important changes of the sensor network system.

      • H2O Adsorption/Desorption in MOF-74: <i>Ab Initio</i> Molecular Dynamics and Experiments

        Li, Yunsong,Wang, Xinjiang,Xu, Dongyan,Chung, Jae Dong,Kaviany, Massoud,Huang, Baoling American Chemical Society 2015 The Journal of Physical Chemistry Part C Vol.119 No.23

<P>Using density functional theory based molecular dynamics with the tight-binding approximation and experimental characterization, the H2O vapor adsorption/desorption processes in Zn-MOF-74 and the corresponding influence on the lattice dynamics were investigated. It was found that the Zn sites are preferred for H2O adsorption, and they even allow for the adsorption of multiple H2O molecules on the same site, making it possible to form stable H2O cluster at low temperatures. The adsorption heats of different adsorption processes were predicted, and the possibility of H2O cluster formation under vapor exposure at low and room temperatures was explored. The first adsorbed H2O can only be dissociated at elevated temperatures, therefore reducing the cyclic uptake near the room temperature. The vibrational spectra of the lattice and adsorbed H2O were also calculated using molecular dynamics simulation to illuminate the variation of lattice dynamics during the adsorption. The framework was found to be stable after water vapor exposure near room temperature but may start to collapse at around 570 K. X-ray diffraction and H2O adsorption isotherm measurements have been conducted to verify the theoretical predictions, and good agreements are found.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/jpccck/2015/jpccck.2015.119.issue-23/acs.jpcc.5b02069/production/images/medium/jp-2015-02069m_0008.gif'></P>

      • Value of Information Sharing in Inventory Management of Maintenance Spare Parts

Haiju Hu,Yongjian Li,Xinjiang Cai 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Database Theory and Appli Vol.9 No.7

This study uses the system dynamics tool Vensim to conduct simulation on two different types of maintenance spare parts information sharing models (i.e. the inter-user joint maintenance spare parts management model and the supplier-involved joint maintenance spare parts management model) as well as the spare parts management model without the implementation of information sharing. By comparing the change of revenues of both the supply and the demand sides before and after the implementation of information sharing, as well as under different information sharing models, we propose the optimal way of information sharing, and also contribute managerial implications for the implementation of information sharing in maintenance spare parts inventory management.

Robust Fault Detection Filter Design for Uncertain LTI Systems Based on New Bounded Real Lemma

        Tao Li,Lingyao Wu,Xinjiang Wei 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2009 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.7 No.4

This paper concerns the problem of robust fault detection filter design for uncertain linear time-invariant (LTI) systems with both model uncertainty and disturbances. Firstly, the fault detection filter design is formulated to H∞ model-matching problem. Secondly, based on a new bounded real lemma, a sufficient condition for the existence of the robust fault detection filter is constructed in term of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Owing on the introduction of the tuning parameter and slack variables in obtained LMI condition, the proposed design method can provide higher fault detection sensitivity performance than the existing one. Finally, an illustrative example is employed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Rock mechanics and wellbore stability in Dongfang 1-1 Gas Field in South China Sea

        Yan, Chuanliang,Deng, Jingen,Cheng, Yuanfang,Yan, Xinjiang,Yuan, Junliang,Deng, Fucheng Techno-Press 2017 Geomechanics & engineering Vol.12 No.3

Thermal effect has great influence on wellbore stability in Dongfang 1-1 (DF 1-1) gas field, a reservoir with high-temperature and high-pressure. In order to analyze the wellbore stability in DF1-1 gas field, the variation of temperature field after drilling was analyzed. In addition, the effect of temperature changing on formation strength and the thermal expansion coefficients of formation were tested. On this basis, a wellbore stability model considering thermal effect was developed and the thermal effect on fracture pressure and collapse pressure was analyzed. One of the main challenges in this gas field is the decreasing temperature of the wellbore will reduce fracture pressure substantially, resulting in the drilling fluid leakage. If the drilling fluid density was reduced, kick or blowout may happen. Therefore, the key of safe drilling in DF1-1 gas field is to predict the fracture pressure accurately.
