        ROOM-TEMPERATURE SOLID-STATE REACTION TO TREE-LIKE FRACTAL NANO-CdS AND THIRD-ORDER NONLINEAR OPTICAL PROPERTIES

        TAO-YU ZHOU,HUI WANG,XIAO-PING KANG,XIN-QUAN XIN 성균관대학교(자연과학캠퍼스) 성균나노과학기술원 2013 NANO Vol.8 No.4

A novel tree-like nano-cadmium sulfide (CdS) with the fractal feature is synthesized by solid-state reaction at room temperature from complex precursor with aminotrimethylenephosphonic acid (ATMP) as ligand. The obtained sample is the crystalline cubic beta cadmium sulfide. The tree is composed of nanorods with an average diameter of ca. 95 nm and a length of up to 100–650 nm. The nanorods grow in the asymmetrical "Y" shape. The amount of ATMP plays an important role in the formation of fractal structure. Nonlinear optical (NLO) measurements by the Z-scan technique exhibit that the tree-like fractal nano-CdS has the third-order nonlinear optical properties of both NLO absorption and NLO refraction with self-focusing effect and the optical limiting performance.

      • Extraskeletal Ewing Sarcomas in Late Adolescence and Adults: A Study of 37 Patients

        Tao, Hai-Tao,Hu, Yi,Wang, Jin-Liang,Cheng, Yao,Zhang, Xin,Wang, Huan,Zhang, Su-Jie Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.5

Background: Extraskeletal Ewing sarcoma (EES)/primitive neuroectodermal tumours (PNET) are rare soft tissue sarcomas. Prognostic factors and optimal therapy are still unconfirmed. Materials and Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis on patients to explore the clinic characteristics and prognostic factors of this rare disease. A total of 37 patients older than 15 years referred to our institute from Jan., 2002 to Jan., 2012 were reviewed. The characteristics, treatment and outcome were collected and analyzed. Results: The median age was 28 years (range 15-65); the median size of primary tumours was 8.2 cm (range 2-19). Sixteen patients (43%) had metastatic disease at the initial presentation. Wide surgical margins were achieved in 14 cases (38%). Anthracycline or platinum-based chemotherapy was performed on 29 patients (74%). Radiotherapy was delivered in 13 (35%). At a median follow-up visit of 24 months (range 2-81), the media event-free survival (EFS) and overall survival (OS) were 15.8 and 30.2 months, respectively. The 3-year EFS and OS rates were 24% and 43%, respectively. Metastases at presentation and wide surgical margins were significantly associated with OS and EFS. Tumour size was significantly associated with OS but not EFS. There were no significant differences between anthracycline and platinum based chemotherapy regarding EFS and OS. Conclusions: EES/PNET is a malignant tumour with high recurrence and frequent distant metastasis. Multimodality therapy featuring wide surgical margins, aggressive chemotherapy and adjuvant local radiotherapy is necessary for this rare disease. Platinum-based chemotherapy can be used as an adjuvant therapy.

      • Blind Separation of Permuted Alias Image with Motion Blurred Using Image Enhancement in NSCT Domain

        DUAN Xin-tao,WANG Jing-juan,PENG Tao,LI Fei-fei,LIU Shang-Wang,LIU Tuan-ning 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Signal Processing, Image Vol.9 No.3

Focused on the issue that motion blurred permuted alias image blind separation, an algorithm using image enhancement based on nonsubsampled contourlet transform (NSCT) domain was proposed. Firstly, permuted alias image was decomposed into low-frequency sub-band and high-frequency sub-bands, which were obtained by spare decomposition based on NSCT domain. Coefficients of high-frequency sub-bands were enhanced according to Bayesian shrinkage threshold and nonlinear gain function, and the enhanced version was got by this method. Then the permuted alias image and the enhanced version were blocked, the correlation coefficients were estimated by each corresponding sub-block, because the permuting image was changed larger, the permuting image could be separated by using threshold method. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can separate the permuting image effectively from the permuted alias image in spite of the motion blurred direction, blur degree, size, location and the number of permuting image.

Characterization of Two Metagenome-Derived Esterases That Reactivate Chloramphenicol by Counteracting Chloramphenicol Acetyltransferase

( Wei Xin Tao ),( Myung Hwan Lee ),( Mi Young Yoon ),( Jin Cheol Kim ),( Shweta Malhotra ),( Jing Wu ),( Eul Chul Hwang ),( Seon Woo Lee ) 한국미생물 · 생명공학회 2011 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.21 No.12

Function-driven metagenomic analysis is a powerful approach to screening for novel biocatalysts. In this study, we investigated lipolytic enzymes selected from an alluvial soil metagenomic library, and identified two novel esterases, EstDL26 and EstDL136. EstDL26 and EstDL136 reactivated chloramphenicol from its acetyl derivates by counteracting the chloramphenicol acetyltransferase (CAT) activity in Escherichia coli. These two enzymes showed only 27% identity in amino acid sequence to each other; however both preferentially hydrolyzed short-chain p-nitrophenyl esters (≤C5) and showed mesophilic properties. In vitro, EstDL136 catalyzed the deacetylation of 1- and 3- acetyl and 1,3-diacetyl derivates; in contrast, EstDL26 was not capable of the deacetylation at C1, indicating a potential regioselectivity. EstDL26 and EstDL136 were similar to microbial hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL), and since chloramphenicol acetate esterase (CAE) activity was detected from two other soil esterases in the HSL family, this suggests a distribution of CAE among the soil microorganisms. The isolation and characterization of EstDL26 and EstDL136 in this study may be helpful in understanding the diversity of CAE enzymes and their potential role in releasing active chloramphenicol in the producing bacteria.

      • Shear resistance of steel–concrete–steel deep beams with bidirectional webs

        Yu-Tao Guo,Xin Nie,Jiansheng Fan,Mu-Xuan Tao 국제구조공학회 2022 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.42 No.3

Steel–concrete–steel composite structures with bidirectional webs (SCSBWs) are used in large-scale projects and exhibit good mechanical performances and constructional efficiency. The shear behaviors of SCSBW deep beam members in key joints or in locations subjected to concentrated forces are of concern in design. To address this issue, experimental program is investigated to examine the deep-beam shear behaviors of SCSBWs, in which the cracking process and force transfer mechanism are revealed. Compared with the previously proposed truss model, it is found that a strut-and-tie model is more suitable for describing the shear mechanism of SCSBW deep beams with a short span and sparse transverse webs. According to the experimental analyses, a new model is proposed to predict the shear capacities of SCSBW deep beams. This model uses strut-and-tie concept and introduces web shear and dowel action to consider the coupled multi mechanisms. A stress decomposition method is used to distinguish the contributions of different shear-transferring paths. Based on case studies, a simplified model is further developed, and the explicit solution is derived for design efficiency. The proposed models are verified using experimental data, which are proven to have good accuracy and efficiency and to be suitable for practical application.

      • A PSTN Terminal for FSK Decoding and DTMF Dialing Applications

        Liang Xin-Tao,Fan Qing-Yu,Lin Wen-Chang 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Signal Processing, Image Vol.8 No.5

To realize Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) decoding and Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency (DTMF) dialing, a novel hardware and software solution is presented. These two signals are used to receive or send messages respectively in this solution which can meet different requirements of many Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) applications. The hardware used CPC5622 as the phone line interface Data access arrangement (DAA), HT9032D as the FSK decoder, and C8051f120 as the DTMF generator and system controller. The software, mainly composed of DTMF dialing and FSK decoding subprograms, was written and debugged with the hardware and finally succeeded to realize the terminal. The results performed under Huawei C&C08 switch show that the terminal can realize dialing by encoding standard DTMF signals and extracting the caller's information from the standard FSK signals in the PSTN. The CPC5622 as well as C8051f120 has some free Inputs, outputs, and other hardware resources, which make the PSTN terminal scalable and available to a variety of PSTN devices and applications.

      • Differential Protein Expression in EC304 Gastric Cancer Cells Induced by Alphastatin

Wang, Xin-Xin,Sun, Rong-Ju,Wu, Meng,Li, Tao,Zhang, Yong,Chen, Lin Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.4

Objective: To explore the differential protein expression profile in EC304 gastric cancer cells induced by alphastatin. Methods: Cultured EC304 cells in the exponential phase of growth were randomly divided into alphastatin and control groups. Total proteins were extracted and the two dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE) technique was applied to analyze differences in expression with ImageMaster 2D Platinum 5.0 software. Proteins were identified using the MASCOT database and selected differently expressed proteins were characterised by western blotting and immunofluorescence. Results: $1350{\pm}90$ protein spots were detected by the ImageMaster software in the 2-DE gel images from the control and alphastatin groups. The match rate was about 72-80% for the spectrum profiles, with 29 significantly different protein spots being identified, 10 upregulated, 16 downregulated, two new and one lost. The MASCOT search scores were 64-666 and the peptide matching numbers were 3-27 with sequence coverage of 8-62%. Twenty-three proteins were checked by mass spectrometry, including decrease in Nm23 and profilin-2 isoform b associated with the regulation of actin multimerisation induced by extracellular signals. Conclusion: The proteome in EC304 cells is dramatically altered by alphastatin, which appears to play an important role in modulating cellular activity and anti-angiogenesis by regulating protein expression and signal transduction pathways through Nm23 and profilin-2 isoform b, providing new research directions for anti-angiogenic therapy of gastric cancer.

      • Comparison of Primary Breast Cancer Size by Mammography and Sonography

        Wang, Jian-Tao,Chang, Li-Ming,Song, Xin,Zhao, Li-Xin,Li, Jun-Tao,Zhang, Wei-Guo,Ji, Ying-Bin,Cai, Li-Na,Di, Wei,Yang, Xin-Yu Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.22

Purpose: To compare tumor size by mammography and sonography and align with pathological results in primary breast cancer cases. Materials and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 95 primary breast cancer patients who underwent mammography and sonography from January 2011 to June 2012. The largest tumor diameter was chosen as sizing reference for each imaging modality. The measurements of mammography and sonography were considered concordant if they were within the measurement of pathological results ${\pm}0.5cm$. Pearson's correlation coefficient was calculated for imaging results. Results: The range of the maximum diameter was 0.6cm-10.5cm and mean value was $3.81{\pm}2.04cm$ by pathological results, 0.7cm-12.4 cm and $3.99{\pm}2.19cm$ by mammography, and 0.9cm-11.0cm and $3.63{\pm}2.01cm$ by sonography, respectively. Sonography (R: 0.754), underestimated tumor size, but had a better correlation with pathological tumor size compared to mammography (R: 0.676), which overestimated tumor size. Conclusions: Sonography is superior to mammography in assessment of primary breast cancer.
