        First-Principles Study of the Elastic, Hardness and Electronic Properties of MoAlB under High Pressure

        The structure, elastic and electronic properties of MoAlB have been studied under high pressure by using first principles. The optimized lattice parameters, elastic constants, bulk moduli, and shear moduli agree well with experimental and other theoretical values. The relationships of the lattice constants with pressure indicated an anisotropic behavior. The calculated elastic constants satisfy the mechanical stability conditions. Our calculated Vickers hardness of MoAlB is 11.56~GPa, which agrees with the experimental data and confirms its having a relatively softer nature than the other borides. The Cauchy pressure, the Poisson's ratio and the $G/B$ value suggest that MoAlB is a brittle solid under ambient conditions, but the brittleness decreases with increasing pressure. The band structure and the density of states reveal the metallic feature of MoAlB, and the energy levels shift toward both sides of the Fermi level with increasing pressure. The Mulliken population and density of states suggest a mixture bonding nature of covalence and metallicity in MoAlB.

        Co3(PO4)2-Coated LiV3O8 as Positive Materials for Rechargeable Lithium Batteries

        Co3(PO4)2-coated LiV3O8 has been successfully synthesized and used as positive material for rechargeable lithium batteries by a facile liquid phase method. The as-prepared powders were characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), and the galvanostatic discharge/charge experiments. As-prepared Co3(PO4)2-coated LiV3O8 forms a good layered structure with a poor cyrstallinity. SEM reveals that Co3(PO4)2-coated LiV3O8 has uniform particle distribution and reduced particle size when compared with bare one. The Co3(PO4)2 coating layer is about 33 - 59 nm forming a continuous lumps attached to LiV3O8 particle surface. Co3(PO4)2-coated LiV3O8 electrode shows increased capacity and more stable cycling. The first and 35th discharge capacities of the Co3(PO4)2-coated LiV3O8electrode are 322.8 mAh g−1 and 235.7 mAh g−1 in the range of 4.0 - 1.8 V at a current rate of 30 mA g−1, respectively. The improved electrochemical performance is assigned to the greatly reduced LiV3O8 particle with uniform morphology. Co3(PO4)2-coating further benefits the phase transitions of LiV3O8 during discharge/charge while preventing parasite reactions between electrode surface and electrolyte.

        Rheological Phase Synthesis of Er-Doped LiV3O8 as Electroactive Material for a Cathode of Secondary Lithium Storage

        Er-doped LiV3O8 as cathode material for secondary lithium batteries was prepared through a rheological phase reaction method. The as-prepared materials were investigated by x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and galvanostatic discharge/charge measurements. The results indicate that Er doped phase preserves the layered structure of the pristine LiV3O8 and has an enlarged interlayer spacing. Compared to LiV3O8 sample, Er-doped LiV3O8 sample displays more uniform particles and large surface area. The electrochemical test shows that Er doping does not change the process of Li+ insertion/deinsertion. Er-doped LiV3O8 electrode exhibits an initial discharge capacity of 294.2 mAh g−1 and maintains a stable capacity of 220.7 mAh g−1 after 50 cycles, indicating a greatly improved good cycleability comparing with the undoped one.

        Construction and Differential Screening of a cDNA Library Specific to Osmotic Stress of Haloxylon ammodendron Seedlings

        A subtracted cDNA library specific to osmotic stress of Haloxylon ammodendron (Mey.) Bge seedlings was constructed by suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH) and T/A cloning. SSH was performed between two groups of H. ammodendron seedlings, one was cultivated in Hoagland (H) solution as a driver and the other group was treated with osmotic stress of the Hoagland solution by the addition of 400 mM mannitol (M), as a tester. The library consisted of about 400 recombinant clones, with the average size being of 500 bp, ranging from 300 bp to 1500 bp. Using a PCR-select differential screening kit, 100 recombinant clones were randomly chosen from the subtracted cDNA library and hybridized with forward,reverse subtracted and unsubtracted probes for two rounds. As a result, 21 positive clones specific to osmotic stress were obtained and some of them were verified by Northern blot analysis. The sequencing analysis of 6 positive clones and the following homology comparison to GenBank [blastx] non-redundant databases characterized that two sequences obtained in this experiment may contribute to novel drought-related genes.

        Humanized Murine Model for HBV and HCV Using Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells

        Infection of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) results in heterogeneous outcomes from acute asymptomatic infection to chronic infection leading to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In vitro models using animal hepatocytes, human HCC cell lines, or in vivo transgenic mouse models have contributed invaluably to understanding the pathogenesis of HBV and HCV. A humanized mouse model made by reconstitution of human primary hepatocytes in the liver of the immunodeficient mouse provides a novel experimental opportunity which mimics the in vivo growth of the human hepatocytes. The limited access to primary human hepatocytes necessitated the search for other cellular sources, such as pluripotent stem cells. Human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) have the features of self-renewal and pluripotency and differentiate into cells of all three germ layers, including hepatocytes. Humaninduced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) derived from the patient’s or individual’s own cells provide a novel opportunity to generate hepatocyte-like cells with the defined genetic composition. Here, we will review the current perspective of the models used for HBV and HCV study,and introduce the personalized mouse model using human iPSCs. This novel mouse model will facilitate the direct investigation of HBV and HCV in human hepatocytes as well as probing the genetic influence on the susceptibility of hepatocytes to HBV and HCV.

        연줄과 "꽌시(關係)"의 차이 : 한국과 중국의 사회연결망 비교

        이 글은 사회연결망 분석의 시각에서 한국의 '연줄'과 중국의 '꽌시'에 나타나는 특징에 대해서 비교연구를 실기했으며 다음과 같은 연구 결과를 발견했다: '연줄'과 '꽌시'는 모두 친족 비중이 매우 높은 폐쇄적인 연결망이다. 그러나 두 연결망 사이에 많은 차이점이 존재하다 산업화의 과정 중에서 한국인은 자신을 소외시키는 완전한 개인주의를 피하면서 혈연, 지연, 학연 등 소집단을 찾아 '집단화된 개인적 연줄'을 선택했다. 이에 비해서 중국인은 개인주의를 선택했다. 한국인의 '연줄'은 혈연, 학연처럼 귀속적인 특성을 가지고 있으나 중국인의 '꽌시'는 오랜 시간의 교제를 통해서 만들어진 친구의 비율과 중요성이 훨씬 높다. 통계분석을 한 결과 한국의 경우에 일상생활 중에서 흔히 말하는 '연줄'의 3가지 구성 요소 혈연, 지연과 학연 중의 지연의 영향력이 뚜렷하지 않다. 학연은 한국인의 연결망 크기와 연결망 구조에 가장 큰 영향을 미친다. 중국의 경우에 경제 개혁의 진전도가 중요한 요소로 작용한다. 발전된 도시일수록 '꽌시'연결망이 작아지며 사람들은 가족만 의지하게 된다. The article compares the 'yeongzul' in Korea and the 'guanxi' in China from the perspective of social networks. It concludes that although both are the closed social networks based on consanguinity, there are significant differences. First, during industrialization the Korean people choose the 'collectivized individualistic networks' which are based on consanguinity, regionalism, and graduation schools, while the Chinese choose the 'completely individualistic networks'. Second, the 'yeongzul' networks are generally predetermined by the sameness of consanguinity, regionalism, and graduation school, while the 'guanxi' networks are shaped through long-term acquaintance of people who have a relatively higher proportion within the networks. Third, in the daily life, education, instead of regionalism whose influence is not remarkable, plays a dominant role in forming the scale and structure of the 'yeongzul' networks, while in China, the deeper the economic reform, the smaller the 'guanxi' networks and the more based on family members.

        Analysis on Color Shaping the Space of Animated Film Coco

        중요한 시각적 요소로서 애니메이션영화의 색은 현실을 묘사할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라, 영화 공간을 형성하는 데 중요한 역할을 하는 감정과 의미를 전달할 수 있다. 가장 성공적인 애니메이션영화 중 하나로 〈코코〉는 영화 공간을 형성하기 위해 대담하고 독특한 색 언어를 사용한다. 민족 색상은 이야기 공간을 만들어 이야기 배경을 멕시코 지역 및 문화 풍습으로 가득 채우며, 색상 대조로 물리적 공간을 만들고 공간 모델링 및 차원 감을 뚜렷이 표현하며, 색상 연상 형식으로 심리적 공간을 만들어 관중들은 영화 정신세계에 인도하게 한다. 〈코코〉의 공간 색상 분석을 통해, 애니메이션영화 공간 모델링은 색상의 특성 및 기능을 충분히 활용하고, 공간의 특성에 따라, 다른 색상 언어를 사용해야 하며 영화 공간의 표현 형식을 확장하고 영화 공간의 의미를 깊게 한다. As an important visual element, color in animated films can not only depicts the reality, but also conveys emotion and meanings, which play an important role in shaping the space of animated films. As one of the most outstanding animated films, Coco uses bold and unique color language to shape the film space. It uses the national color to blend the Mexican culture into the story space making it full of Mexican regional and cultural connotation, uses color contrast to shape the physical space, highlighting the three-dimensional and deep sense of the physical space. And also uses color association to create the psychological space, leading audience into the spiritual world of the film. Based on the analysis of the Coco, we an see that when shape the film space of animation, the film maker should give full play to the characteristics and function of color, and apply different color language to shape different space according to the role of the film space, so as to expand and deepen the connotation and expressiveness of film space.

        Di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate induced oxidative damage involving FasL-associated apoptotic pathway in mouse spermatogenic GC-2spd cells

        Di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) which belongs to phthalatic-acid esters, is a kind of harmful, global environmental pollutants. It is a known endocrine disrupting chemical and male reproductive toxicant. However, the mechanism by which DEHP exposure result in male reproductive toxicity is still unclear. To elucidate the productive toxicity mechanism of DEHP, we attemptted to investigate oxidative stress, apoptotic effects, mRNA and protein expression of apoptosis-associated genes including FasL, caspase-3, and caspase-8 in GC-2spd (mouse spermatogenic cells). The results showed that, with the increase of DEHP concentration, cell apoptosis rate increased; the activities of relation index of oxidative stress such as malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutatione peroxidase (GSH-PX) changed significantly; the mRNA and protein expression levels of FasL, caspase-3, -8, altered obviously. These results suggested that DEHP could induce apoptosis of GC-2spd cells through oxidative stress and FasL-dependent pathway.
