The aim of the study was to clarify the role of gastrokine 1 in the process of formation and development of gastric cancer. The expression of gastrokine 1 in gastric cancer and corresponding non-cancerous gastric tissues of 52 gastric cancer patients was assessed with the real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and immunohistochemistry. We also analyzed the relationship between the expression level and clinicopathological characteristics. Gastrokine 1 gene and protein expression in gastric cancer tissues was in both cases significantly lower than in corresponding non-cancerous gastric tissues (both P<0.01), but no significant relationship was found with clinicopathological parameters including tumor location, depth of invasion, differentiation, lymph node metastasis, stage, gender, age and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), and carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) level in peripheral blood preoperation of patients (P>0.05, respectively). Furthermore, gastrokine 1 gene expression was markedly lower in gastric cancer tissues of Helicobacter pylori (HP)-positive patients than negative ones (P<0.05). The result of the study showed that gastrokine 1 might play a significant role in the process of formation and development of gastric cancer as an anti-oncogene. Its effect might be weakened by HP infection.
EVALUATION OF THE ANTITUMOR ACTIVITY BY CdTe QDs WITH VERBASCOSIDE

Cadmium telluride quantum dots (QDs) have received significant attention in biomedical research because of their potential in drug delivery. In this study, the chemotherapeutic agent Verbascoside (VB) was immobilized successfully onto CdTe QDs by covalent bonding between the –OH group of VB and the –COOH group of CdTe QDs. The amount of VB that could be immobilized depended on the concentration of –COOH groups (succinic acid) on the surface of the CdTe QDs. Apoptotic staining, DNA fragmentation and flow cytometry analysis further demonstrated that compared with CdTe QDs or VB treatment alone, the apoptosis rate increased after the treatment of CdTe QDs together with VB (VB–QDs) in HepG2/ADM cells. We observed that VB–QDs treatment could clearly activate apoptosis-related Caspase 3 expression in HepG2/ADM cells. Moreover, our in vivo study indicated that the treatment of VB–QDs effectively inhibited the human hepatoma HepG2/ADM nude mice tumor growth. The increased cell apoptosis rate was closely correlated with the enhanced inhibition of tumor growth in the studied animals. Thus, VB–QDs may serve as a possible alternative for therapeutic approaches for some cancer treatments. In summary, studies have shown that cancer cells are treated by the presence of VB–QDs nanoparticles based on analysis of cell apoptosis.

Although radiation therapy is a cornerstone of modern management of malignancies, various side effects are inevitably linked to abdominal and pelvic cancer after radiotherapy. Radiation-mediated gastrointestinal (GI) toxicity impairs the life quality of cancer survivors and even shortens their lifespan. Hydrogen has been shown to protect against tissue injuries caused by oxidative stress and excessive inflammation, but its effect on radiation-induced intestinal injury was previously unknown. In the present study, we found that oral gavage with hydrogen-water increased the survival rate and body weight of mice exposed to total abdominal irradiation (TAI); oral gavage with hydrogen-water was also associated with an improvement in GI tract function and the epithelial integrity of the small intestine. Mechanistically, microarray analysis revealed that hydrogen-water administration upregulated miR-1968-5p levels, thus resulting in parallel downregulation of MyD88 expression in the small intestine after TAI exposure. Additionally, high-throughput sequencing showed that hydrogen-water oral gavage resulted in retention of the TAI-shifted intestinal bacterial composition in mice. Collectively, our findings suggested that hydrogen-water might be used as a potential therapeutic to alleviate intestinal injury induced by radiotherapy for abdominal and pelvic cancer in preclinical settings.
Predicting the flexural capacity of RC beam with partially unbonded steel reinforcement

Due to the reduction of bond strength resulting from the high corrosion level of reinforcing bars, influence of this reduction on flexural capacity of reinforced concrete (RC) beam should be considered. An extreme case is considered, where bond strength is complete lost and/or the tensile steel are exposed due to heavy corrosion over a fraction of the beam length. A compatibility condition of deformations of the RC beam with partially unbonded length is proposed. Flexural capacity of this kind of RC beam is predicted by combining the proposed compatibility condition of deformations with equilibrium condition of forces. Comparison between the model’s predictions with the experimental results published in the literature shows the practicability of the proposed model. Finally, influence of some parameters on the flexural capacity of RC beam with partially unbonded length is discussed. It is concluded that the flexural capacity of the beam may not be influenced by the completely loss of bond of the whole beam span as long as the tensile steel can yield; whether or not the reduction of the flexural capacity of the beam resulting from the loss of bond over certain length may occur depends on the detailed parameters of the given beam.

Although the effect of corrosion of reinforcing bar on the shear behavior of the reinforced concrete (RC) beam had been simulated by tests of the beam with unbonded, half-exposed or wholeexposed tensile steel reinforcements as well as defective stirrup anchorages, theoretical methods to accurately predict remaining capacity of this kind of RC beams, especially shear capacity, are still lacking. Considering the possible position of the critical inclined crack, the actual pattern of strains in the concrete body within the partial length and the proposed compatibility condition of deformations of the RC beam, shear strength of the RC beam with unbonded or exposed tensile steel reinforcements and/or defective stirrup anchorages is predicted. Comparison between the model’s predictions with the experimental results published in the literature shows the practicability of the proposed model. Influence of the length of unbonded or exposed tensile steel reinforcements and the percentage of stirrups lacked end anchorages on the shear strength of the RC beam is discussed. It is concluded that, the shear strength of the RC beam with unbonded or exposed tensile steel reinforcements and/or defective stirrup anchorages is greatly influenced by the length of unbonded or exposed tensile steel reinforcements and the percentage of stirrups lacked end anchorages, this influence can be adverse, insignificant or even favourable, dependent on the given parameters of the corresponding normal bonded RC beam.

Considering the influence of the visible load-induced transverse cracks on chloride ion diffusion in cracked concrete of the in-service reinforced concrete (RC) elements under marine environment, a typical concrete volume with one transverse crack was taken to establish the governing equation. Assuming the crack widths at the outer lateral and bottom surfaces were equal, a model to predict the equivalent chloride diffusion coefficient in cracked concrete was put forward to consider the influence of the average transverse crack width, crack spacing and crack extending lengths in beam height and width directions on chloride diffusion. Results show that the proposed model can better reflect the variation trend of the equivalent chloride diffusion coefficient with different crack widths in in-service RC elements under marine environment.

Plagiarism is the process of bestowing one’s creative ideas as our individual conception. It is does not meant that anybody cannot use other’s considerations or workings, anybody can use their data by giving the actual credit the original users by stating their names in literature or in references and also by giving special note on acknowledgements. Copying the content of the others work is mainly considered to be a big crime in terms of research and in terms of the owning the idea of the others. The main idea of this work is to identify the extent of the data that was being copied or to identify the amount of data that was being copied from other peoples work or their own credited work. Performance of plagiarizing a document is not limited to word files or pdf files, it is possible to plagiarize even images and other files too. Hence, we were focused on finding the plagiarism in word files which includes academics and research articles.
Effect of Global Warming on Chloride Ion Erosion Risks for Offshore RC Bridges in China

Chloride ion penetration, which leads to corrosion of steel reinforcement, is the leading cause of offshore reinforced concrete bridge deterioration. Global warming would accelerate the process of chloride ion penetration and then structural degradation. In China, durability design code for concrete structures has been issued in 2008, and some thresholds of design parameters have been specified to mitigate corrosion in concrete bridge. However, influence of global warming on structure durability was not considered in the issued code. This would overestimate the durability of concrete structures. In this paper, a reliability based method was adopted to evaluate the influence of climate change on the durability of offshore RC bridges considering the acceleration of chloride ion penetration caused by temperature rise. Two climate change scenarios according to IPCC report were considered to define the global warming. A baseline scenario, in which the mean average temperature equals to that of the year 2000, were defined. It is found that the amount of chloride ion on the surface of reinforcing steel bar in the global warming scenarios are 6%-15% higher than that of structure in the baseline scenario. Meanwhile, the probability of corrosion initiation and corrosion damage increased also. In 2100, structures in environmental categories III-C and III-F, designed according to Chinese codes, can no longer adapt the impact of climate change on structure. Comparison of reliability of improved and pre-improved structure was conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed improvement measures.

Various anatomic anomalies have been considered the causes of nutcracker syndrome (NCS). Posterior NCS refers to the condition, in which vascular narrowing was secondary to the compression of the retroaortic left renal vein while it is crossing between the aorta and the vertebral column. Here, we report an unusual case of posterior NCS associated with a complicated malformation of the interrupted left inferior vena cava with azygos continuation and retroaortic right renal vein, diagnosed by both color Doppler ultrasonography and CT angiography.

The protective effect of aspirin during exposure to heat stress in broiler chickens was investigated. We assayed pathological damage, expression and distribution of Hsp90 protein and hsp90 mRNA expression in chicken heart tissues after oral administration of aspirin following exposure to high temperature for varying times. Heat stress induced increases in plasma aspartate aminotransferase, creatine kinase and lactate dehydrogenase activities while causing severe heart damage, which was characterized by granular and vacuolar degeneration, nuclear shrinkage and even myocardium fragmentation in cardiac muscle fibers. After aspirin administration, myocardial cells showed fewer pathological lesions than broilers treated with heat alone. A high positive Hsp90 signal was always detected in the nuclei of myocardial cells from broilers treated with aspirin, while in myocardial cells treated with heat alone, Hsp90 in the nuclei decreased, as did that in the cytoplasm. Aspirin induced rapid and significant synthesis of Hsp90 before and at the initial phase of heat stress, and significant expression of hsp90 mRNA was stimulated throughout the experiment when compared with cells exposed to heat stress alone. Thus, specific pre-induction of Hsp90 in cardiovascular tissue was useful for resisting heat stress damage because it produced stable damage-related enzymes and fewer pathologic changes.
