Organic Dye Solution Nanofiltration by 2D Zn-TCPP(Fe) Membrane – leverage of chemical and fluid dynamic effects

Xianting Lei,Siok Wei Tay,Pin Jin Ong,Liang Hong 한국공업화학회 2019 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.78 No.-

This study investigates organic solvent nanofiltration (OSN) using the membranes composed of 2D Zn-TCPP(Fe) nanosheets. A group of organic dyes with different molecular weights, hydrophilic propertiesand functional groups was selected as probe solutes in ethanol, isopropanol and ethyl acetate, respectively, to examine their OSN characteristics through the Zn-TCPP(Fe) membrane. Theintermolecular interactions of organic solvent, dye and Zn-TCPP(Fe) nanosheets profoundly influencethe mass transfer in the nano channels of the lamellar membrane. Representatively, the isopropanolsolution of Brilliant Blue G dye turns out to have a favorable OSN performance (>90 % rejection with anaverage permenance of 175 L m 2 h 1 bar 1) over 4 h, whereas replacement of isopropanol by ethanolresults in incipient loss of rejection. However, for this ethanol solution feed, incorporating an optimaldose of ZIF-8 nanograins into the nanosheets via co-deposition, a particle-over-lamellae structure formedunveils a significant improvement on OSN. Such boost is attributed to a combinative effect, i.e., alleviatingdye-nanosheet complexation so as to reduce disturbing the lamellar structure as well as to assistdesolvation of the dye over the feed side. To comprehend how solvent-slolute-nanosheet interactionsdominate OSN, besides the experimental characterizations, both visco-molar volume and Stokes-Einsteindiameter that describefluid dynamic properties of solute molecule in a solvent are employed to assist theanalysis. Possessing hydrophilic characteristic, Zn-TCPP(Fe) nanosheet engages strong hydrophilicassociation with hydrophilic dye and solvent, leading to weak OSN performance. Fundamentally, thereare mutual interactions among solvent, solute and nanosheets in this membrane system, in which theprevailed pair of them impacts OSN performance.

        약현정(Yue Xianting),박철(Cheol Park) 조선대학교 지식경영연구원 2016 기업과 혁신연구 Vol.9 No.2

• Steganalysis using Regional Correlation and Second-order Markov Features

Su Jinyang,Zeng Xianting,Wang Lei 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Security and Its Applicat Vol.9 No.1

A blind steganalysis based on regional correlation and second-order Markov transition probability matrix is proposed for JPEG images. By analyzing the region correlation of JPEG image, the Markov transition probability matrix is used to capture the correlation of intra-block and inter-block DCT coefficients. In addition, the calibrated features are extracted from the calibrated images. The difference features between the original and calibrated images are used for training and classifying. Three different image libraries are used to detect the five kinds of typical JPEG steganography schemes. Experimental results show that, in comparison to the several effective steganalysis, the proposed scheme improves the detection accuracy on some JPEG-based steganography schemes, including outguess, Steghide and MB1.

The effect of local topography on the seismic response of a coupled train-bridge system

        Hong Qiao,Xianting Du,He Xia,Guido De Roeck,Geert Lombaert,Peiheng Long 국제구조공학회 2019 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.69 No.2

The local topography has a significant effect on the characteristics of seismic ground motion. This paper investigates the influence of topographic effects on the seismic response of a train-bridge system. A 3-D finite element model with local absorbing boundary conditions is established for the local site. The time histories of seismic ground motion are converted into equivalent loads on the artificial boundary, to obtain the seismic input at the bridge supports. The analysis of the train-bridge system subjected to multi-support seismic excitations is performed, by applying the displacement time histories of the seismic ground motion to the bridge supports. In a case study considering a bridge with a span of 466 m crossing a valley, the seismic response of the train-bridge system is analyzed. The results show that the local topography and the incident angle of seismic waves have a significant effect on the seismic response of the train-bridge system. Leaving these effects out of consideration may lead to unsafe analysis results.

Stabilization of Benchmark Under-actuated Systems via Saturated Controls

        Jun Liu,Huawen Ye,Xianting Qi 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2022 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.20 No.11

In this paper, we present controllers to stabilize benchmark under-actuated systems such as inertia wheel pendulum (IWP), cart-pole, cart-pendulum, overhead crane, VTOL aircraft, ball-and-beam, translational oscillations with a rotational actuator (TORA), and active magnetic bearing (AMB). The mentioned systems are transformed into the feedforward systems subject to uncertain gains, the nested-saturation controllers in an almost unified form are then designed. Due to the analysis mechanism of saturation reduction (checking the time-derivatives of boundary surfaces), the bounds of uncertain gains can always be determined in small domains. In turn, there is no need to treat in advance certain subsystems, and the fully-saturated controllers (rather than partially-saturated ones) can be taken as global stabilizers. Moreover, the explicit inequality conditions can always be summarized. In addition, for the relatively complicated systems such as the overhead crane system, a non-strict upper-triangular subsystem of the ball-and-beam system as well as the TORA system, special technical strategies are developed to treat the linear perturbation, the non-strict upper-triangular structure and an oscillator.

Lactobacillus paracasei subsp. paracasei LC01 Positively Modulates Intestinal Microflora in Healthy Young Adults

        Hao Zhang,Jing Sun,Xianting Liu,Chuan Hong,Yuanbo Zhu,Aiping Liu,Siqi Li,Huiyuan Guo,Fazheng Ren 한국미생물학회 2013 The journal of microbiology Vol.51 No.6

Lactobacillus paracasei subsp. paracasei LC01 (LC01) can tolerate intestinal stresses and has antioxidant activity. To evaluate the effect of the bacterium on human intestinal microflora,a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled human trial was carried out. Fifty-two healthy adult volunteers were randomized equally to two groups. One group consumed 12% (wt/vol) skimmed milk supplemented with 1010 CFU of LC01 each day for the 4-week treatment period, and then consumed placebo in the next treatment period, separated by a 2-week washout. The other group followed the reverse order. Group-specific real-time PCR and biochemical analyses was used to determine the intestinal bacterial composition of fecal samples collected at the end of every period, and the concentration of short-chain fatty acids and ammonia. A significant inhibition in fecal Escherichia coli and increase in Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, and Roseburia intestinalis were observed after consumption of LC01. Acetic acid and butyric acid were significantly higher in the probiotic stage and fecal ammonia was significantly lower. The results indicated a modulation effect of LC01 on the intestinal microflora of young adults, suggesting a beneficial effect on bowel health. LC01 may have potential value as a probiotic.

Interaction Between Serum/Glucocorticoid-Regulated Kinase 1 and Interleukin-6 in Chronic Rhinosinusitis

        Lai Yuting,Hu Li,Yang Lu,Hu Xianting,Song Xiaole,Yang Jingyi,Li Hongbin,Chen Kun,Li Huabin,Wang Dehui 대한천식알레르기학회 2021 Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Research Vol.13 No.5

Purpose: Serum/glucocorticoid-regulated kinase 1 (SGK1) has recently emerged as a critical regulator of inflammatory diseases. In this study, we examined SGK1 expression and its possible pathogenic roles in chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). Methods: Immunohistochemistry, western blotting, Bio-Plex assay, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays, and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction were performed to assess protein and gene expression levels. The mRNA expression levels of SGK1 and interleukin-6 (IL-6) were extracted from a CRS database to perform correlation analysis. Stable cell lines with SGK1 overexpression (16HBE) and knockdown (A549) were constructed to investigate the interaction between SGK1 and IL-6 in vitro. Results: SGK1 exhibited strong cytoplasmic and nuclear staining in the epithelial layers and the lamina propria of nasal polyps (NPs) and in the mucosal tissues of CRS without nasal polyps (CRSsNP). The mRNA and protein expression levels of SGK1 and IL-6 were significantly increased in NPs and CRSsNP tissues, compared to control tissues. SGK1 phosphorylation was significantly greater in NPs than in CRSsNP tissues (P < 0.01). The mRNA levels of SGK1 and IL-6 were significantly correlated (P < 0.001, r = 0.649). Exposure to IL-6 significantly increased SGK1 expression in cultured dispersed NP cells, 16HBE cells, and A549 cells. IL-6 expression was significantly down-regulated in SGK1-overexpressing 16HBE cells (P < 0.01) and significantly up-regulated in SGK1-knockdown A549 cells (P < 0.05). Administration of GSK650394, a SGK1 inhibitor, significantly increased IL-6 self-induced mRNA expression in cultured dispersed NP cells and 16HBE cells. Conclusions: The interaction between SGK1 and IL-6 may play an anti-inflammatory role in IL-6-induced inflammation in the pathogenesis of CRS.

Differential Hrd1 Expression and B-Cell Accumulation in Eosinophilic and Non-eosinophilic Chronic Rhinosinusitis With Nasal Polyps

        Kun Chen,Miaomiao Han,Mengyao Tang,Yadong Xie,Yuting Lai,Xianting Hu,Jia Zhang,Jun Yang,Huabin Li 대한천식알레르기학회 2018 Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Research Vol.10 No.6

Purpose: Hrd1 has recently emerged as a critical regulator of B-cells in autoimmune diseases. However, its role in the pathogenesis of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) remains largely unexplored. This study aimed to examine Hrd1 expression and B-cell accumulation and their possible roles in CRSwNP. Methods: Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, immunohistochemistry, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and Western blotting were used to assess gene and protein expression in nasal tissue extracts. Cells isolated from nasal tissues and peripheral blood mononuclear cells were characterized by flow cytometry. Local antibody production was measured in tissue extracts with a Bio-Plex assay. Additionally, changes in Hrd1 expression in response to specific inflammatory stimuli were measured in cultured dispersed polyp cells. Results: Nasal polyps (NPs) from patients with eosinophilic CRSwNP (ECRS) had increased levels of Hrd1, B-cells and plasma cells compared with NPs from patients with non-eosinophilic CRSwNP (non-ECRS) or other control subjects (P < 0.05). The average Hrd1 levels in B-cells in NPs from ECRS patients were significantly higher than those from non-ECRS patients and control subjects (P < 0.05). NPs also contained significantly increased levels of several antibody isotypes compared with normal controls (P < 0.05). Interestingly, Hrd1 expression in cultured polyp cells from ECRS patients, but not non-ECRS patients, was significantly increased by interleukin-1β, lipopolysaccharide and Poly(I:C) stimulation, and inhibited by dexamethasone treatment (P < 0.05). Conclusions: Differential Hrd1 expression and B-cell accumulation between the ECRS and non-ECRS subsets suggests that they can exhibit distinct pathogenic mechanisms and play important roles in NP.

Analysis of Peripheral B Cell Subsets in Patients With Allergic Rhinitis

        Jing Luo,Huanhuan Guo,Zhuofu Liu,Tao Peng,Xianting Hu,Miaomiao Han,Xiangping Yang,Xuhong Zhou,Huabin Li 대한천식알레르기학회 2018 Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Research Vol.10 No.3

Purpose: Recent evidence suggests that B cells can both promote and inhibit the development and progression of allergic disease. However, the characteristics of B cell subsets in patients with allergic rhinitis (AR) have not been well documented. This study aimed to analyze the characteristics of B cell subsets in the peripheral blood of AR patients. Methods: Forty-seven AR patients and 54 healthy controls were enrolled in this study, and the B cell subsets in peripheral blood of all subjects were analyzed by flow cytometry. Moreover, the serum total immunoglobulin E (IgE) and IgE concentrations secreted into the cultured peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were measured by using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results: We found the peripheral blood of AR patients contained higher percentages of memory B cells, plasma cells, and CD19+CD24hiCD27+ regulatory B cells (Bregs) than those of age-matched healthy controls (P<0.05), while the percentages of naïve B cells and CD19+CD24hiCD38hi Bregs were significantly lower in AR patients than in healthy individuals (P<0.05). In addition, the serum total IgE and IgE concentrations secreted into the cultured PBMCs were elevated in AR patients than in the healthy controls (P<0.05). Conclusions: Our findings indicate that AR patients were characterized by increase in terminally differentiated memory B cells or plasma cells and decreases in CD19+CD24hiCD38hi Breg cells in the peripheral blood.
