        Study on optimal conditions and adsorption kinetics of copper from water by collodion membrane cross-linked poly-γ-glutamic acid

        Poly-γ-glutamic acid (γ-PGA) is a novel polyamino acid formed through microorganism fermentation and biosynthesis. In the present test, membrane (PGA-C) formation by γ-PGA and collodion was performed by using 0.1%glutaraldehyde as a cross-linking agent. A study was conducted on the PGA-C adsorption of Cu2+, specifically the related adsorption equilibrium and kinetics, desorption and regeneration. The results show that with an initial solution pH=5.5and at 318 K, the static adsorption isotherm behavior of PGA-C is in compliance with the Langmuir model and is beneficial to the adsorption of the metal. Meanwhile, with the reaction lasting for 30min, adsorption equilibrium was reached with a maximum adsorption capacity up to 7.431 mg/g. The entire reaction process follows the pseudo-second-order kinetics. By using PGA-C, good regeneration results were obtained after adsorption-generation-adsorption cycling with an HCl solution (0.1 mol/L) as regeneration liquid.

        Galloping analysis of roof structures

        This paper presents galloping analysis of multiple-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) structural roofs with multiple orientations. Instead of using drag and lift coefficients and/or their combined coefficient in traditional galloping analysis for slender structures, this study uses wind pressure coefficients for wind force representation on each and every different orientation roof, facilitating the galloping analysis of multiple-orientation roof structures. In the study, influences of nonlinear aerodynamic forces are considered. An energy-based equivalent technique, together with the modal analysis, is used to solve the nonlinear MDOF vibration equations. The critical wind speed for galloping of roof structures is derived, which is then applied to galloping analysis of roofs of a stadium and a high-rise building in China. With the aid of various experimental results obtained in pertinent research, this study also shows that consideration of nonlinear aerodynamic forces in galloping analysis generally increases the critical wind speed, thus enhancing aerodynamic stability of structures.

        Improving glutathione extraction from crude yeast extracts by optimizing aqueous two-phase system composition and operation conditions

        PEG-Dextran and PEG-salt aqueous two-phase systems (ATPS) have been applied to separate glutathione (GSH) from crude yeast extracts. Single-factor experiments were carried out to determine the important factors influencing the partition coefficient and extraction yield. The effect of PEG molecular weight, phase-forming components,PEG and Dextran concentration, pH value, and temperature on the GSH partitioning behavior in ATPS was investigated. Three factors, Dextran concentration, pH value, and temperature, were confirmed to have significant influence on the partition coefficient and extraction yield. These factors were further analyzed with the aid of central composite rotatable design and response surface methodology. The optimal conditions for GSH extraction in the PEGDextran system were determined, including PEG molecular weight 6,000, 10% PEG concentration, 14% Dextran concentration,pH 5.2, and temperature 32 oC. A high extraction yield (83.55%) of GSH from crude yeast extracts was achieved under these optimized conditions. This work is very helpful for developing one efficient and cost-effective process for the separation and purification of GSH from yeast broths.

        Integration of wastewater treatment units and optimization of waste residue pyrolysis conditions in the brominated phenol flame retardant industry

        Among the bromine flame retardants, tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) is a highly effective flame retardantthat can be used as both reactive and additive. However, the synthesis reaction of TBBPA has alow conversion rate and many brominated phenolic organics. Therefore, there is an urgent need toremove brominated organic pollutants produced in the process of producing flame retardants to reducethe harm to the environment and human beings and to reduce production costs. In this study, an efficientprocess was developed to treat the wastewater and waste residue generated in TBBPA production process,realizing its harmless and resource utilization. In the resource utilization system, through the ingeniousdesign of solution mixing, precipitation separation, three-effect evaporation and concentration,valuable substances were extracted to realize the recovery and reuse of wastewater. In the harmless utilizationprocess of hazardous waste residue, through high-temperature pyrolysis at 500 C for 2 h afteroptimization with hypoxia-hyperoxia atmosphere modulation, it can avoid the production of dioxinsand carbon black, effectively remove the organic impurities, realize the harmlessness and obtain highqualitysodium sulfate. This paper aims to propose a simple, efficient and feasible utilization system,including the three major technological processes of TBBPA production, integrated wastewater treatmentand optimized the harmless treatment of waste residue to obtain sodium sulfate, so as to realize TBBPAgreen production. Compared with the traditional TBBPA synthesis system, wastewater and waste residuetreatment processes, the TBBPA quality is increased by 2 % and the economic cost is reduced by 10 %,which is of great significance to the development of the industry.

        Measurement of Porosity by EPMA-EDS Image Processing

        Porosity is one important characteristic feature and structural index of sprayed coatings. A method of measurement of porosity, EPMA-EDS image processing is developed in the paper. The characteristics of pores can be determined by processing of the image obtained from an electron microscope via VISTA, Not only the porosity can be presented but also the statistical result of pore size distribution. Finally it can be drawn from this paper that EPMA-EDS is a quite effective method to completely characterize the pores in plasma sprayed coatings.

        Multi-channel analyzer based on a novel pulse fi tting analysis method

        A novel pulse fitting analysis (PFA) method is presented for the acquisition of nuclear spectra. Thecharging process of the feedback capacitor in the resistive feedback charge-sensitive preamplifier isequivalent to the impulsive pulse, and its impulse response function (IRF) can be obtained by non-linearfitting of the falling edge of the nuclear pulse. The integral of the IRF excluding the baseline representsthe energy deposition of the particles in the detector. In addition, since the non-linear fitting process inPFA method is difficult to achieve in the conventional architecture of spectroscopy system, a new multichannel analyzer (MCA) based on Zynq SoC is proposed, which transmits all the data of nuclear pulsesfrom the programmable logic (PL) to the processing system (PS) by high-speed AXI-Stream in order toimplement PFA method with precision. The linearity of new MCA has been tested. The spectrum of 137Cswas obtained using LaBr3(Ce) scintillator detector, and was compared with commercial MCA by ORTEC. The results of tests indicate that the MCA based on PFA method has the same performance as thecommercial MCA based on pulse height analysis (PHA) method and excellent linearity for g-rays withdifferent energies, which infers that PFA method is an effective and promising method for the acquisitionof spectra. Furthermore, it provides a new solution for nuclear pulse processing algorithms involvingregression and iterative processes

        Improved production, purification and bioactivity of a polysaccharide from submerged cultured Ganoderma lucidum

        Polysaccharides from Ganoderma lucidumshowed multiple biological activities, such as immunomodulating,antitumor, antioxidant, and hepatoprotectiveactivity, etc. Adlay oil was added into the media to enhancepolysaccharide production by submerged culture of G. lucidumin this work. The results revealed the optimal concentrationof adlay oil was 1.5 % for polysaccharideproduction of G. lucidum. Analysis of the polysaccharidecomponents confirmed that no novel components werebiosynthesized by the addition of adlay oil. The mainfraction of extracellular polysaccharide, GLEP-2, wasisolated from the submerged culture broth of G. lucidum byethanol precipitation, filtration, DEAE cellulose-52 andSepharose CL-6B chromatography. GLEP-2, which wascomposed of glucose, galactose, mannose, arabinose, andrhamnose in a ratio of 332:55:32:13:3 respectively, had anaverage molecular weight of *2.08 9 104 Da. The bioactivitytests demonstrated that GLEP-2 enhanced the Tlymphocyte proliferation significantly at a concentration of200 lg/mL and B lymphocyte proliferation at lower concentrationsof 50 lg/mL. The results suggest polysaccharidesfrom the submerged culture of G. lucidum arepotential candidates for further development and possiblecommercial applications, especially in the pharmaceuticaland functional foods industries.

        Preparation and Photocatalytic Hydrogen Production Properties of Mesoporous CdS/TiO2 Composites

        The mesoporous CdS/TiO2 composites were synthesized by a sol–gel method combined with solvothermal method. The material showed the gel block-like structures which were composed of heterogeneous spherical gel particles, the average size of the particles was about 14nm, with specific surface area as 300.254 m2 g -1. The mesoporous CdS/TiO2 composites exhibited a wide absorption band to simulated sunlight whose adsorb wavelength reached to 550 nm, its absorption intensity and catalytic performance of photocatalytic water-producing hydrogenation were also increased with the increase of CdS contents. When the molar ratio of TiO2:CdS was 1:1, the photocatalytic activity reached the highest, and the average hydrogen production rate reached 2167.32 μmol g -1 h -1.

        Electrospun Li2MnO3-Modified Li1.2NixCo0.1Mn0.9-xO2 Nanofibers: Synthesis and Enhanced Electrochemical Performance for Lithium-Ion Batteries

        The Li2MnO3-modified Li1.2NixCo0.1Mn0.9-xO2 (x = 0.2, 0.45, 0.7)as cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries have beensuccessfully synthesized by a simple electrospinning process. Thestructure, morphology and electrochemical performances of theresulting products are studied systematically. The as-preparedLi2MnO3-modified Li1.2NixCo0.1Mn0.9-xO2 (x = 0.2, 0.45, 0.7) with adiameter of 200-300 nm has an initial discharge capacity of168.740 mAh·g−1, coulombic efficiency of 99.6% and a reversiblecapacity as high as 139.016 mAh·g−1 after 200 cycles at a currentrate of 0.2 C. The excellent electrochemical performances ofwhich are attributed to the stabilization of Li2MnO3 structure, therole of Li2MnO3 is contribute extra lithium to the reversiblecapacity and to facilitate Li+ transport through the structure.
