      • Experimental Comparison of Machine Learning Models in Malware Packing Detection

        Recently, malware is widely distributed by combining recent technologies such as packing, encoding and obfuscation to bypass anti-virus software. These kinds of technologies allow malware to survive longer, infect various computers and devices for longer periods of time, create a number of mutated malware, and make experts spend longer to analyze malware. Packers disrupt the reverse engineering process, making it difficult for security researchers to analyze new or unknown malware. Thus, we need to analyze as many malware as possible by first detecting the packed malware and analyzing not-packed malware, and then unpack the packed malware. Previously, the packing detection methods were based on mainly signature and entropy detection. However, these methods have increased the undetected rate with the appearance of custom packers. Due to these problems, there have been many research efforts on machine learning-based malware packing detection and classification. In this paper, we present an extensive experimental comparison of these machine learning-based algorithms. In particular, we extract a total of 13 important features and considers eight machine learning algorithms to detect the packing of malware. Experimental results show that we can also detect well malware packed by custom packers which did not studied in previous studies.

      • A Study on Establishing the Strategy og Modal Shift Policy

        In 1997, 180 countries signed the Kyoto Protocol in Kyoto, Japan. The Kyoto Protocol came into force in February 2005. The agreement calls for industrialized nations to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 5 percent from 1990 levels by 2008 to 2012. So developed countries are presenting various policies to reduce greenhouse gas that is produced in transport field. One of those polices is a modal shift that change from road freight to sea, inland waterway and railroad transportation that is eco-friendly. The increase of road freight brings road congestion, accidents, logistic costs, air pollution and greenhouse gases. Railroads are superior than the other modes of transportations in mass transportability, high speed, timeliness, safety and environmental-friendliness, but the railway industry has been pushed behind in competition. Korean railroads were used by passengers and freight transport popularly until the middle of 20th century, however, by the sudden change of logistics environments, as having time efficiency being most important, railroad logistic competitive power against the transportation by truck. The purpose of this study is to search how to improvement methods of rail freight by understanding the problems and evasion reasons in coping with various case of logistics environment and to enhance competitiveness of rail freight.

        일본의 복합화물운송시스템 정비현황과 적용방안

        With the prevention of global warming emerging as a global issue, South Korea has accelerated its efforts to introduce a intermodal transportation system to grow out of the old logistics system dependent on road transportation and promote environment friendliness and energy efficiency. The government has devised intermodal transportation policies such as“Basic Plan for Sustainable Traffic and Logistics ”and “Second Revised Basic Plan for National Logistics,” granted subsidies to shippers and logistics companies that made a conversion of transportation means through the policies, and provided supports by expanding the complex uniform railroad transportation and overhauling the deteriorated railroad facilities. As for 2010, however, the freight transportation percentage of railroads was 5.2% in tons and 14.8% in ton kilometers, which indicates the country remains in a stagnant state. As for Japan, it has made efforts to expand intermodal freight transport through a variety of legal and institutional supports since the adoption of Kyoto Protocol in 1997, intending to establish an environment-friendly and sustainable transportation system. The Japanese railway service also focuses on passenger transportation and thus has a difficult time implementing a policy to improve the environment of freight transportation, still making active efforts to improve and maintain railroad facilities in response to intermodal freight transport. This study set out to examine the case of Japan, which has proactively responded to the expansion of intermodal freight transport through railways to establish a logistics system according to social and economic environment changes, and explore the directionality of setting up a intermodal freight transport in South Korea.

        철도 인터모달 운송의 효율적 운영을 위한 정보기술 적용 방안

        인터모달리티(intermodality)는 문전운송(door-to-door transport service)에서 적어도 이종(異種)의 운송수단이 통합된 방식으로 사용될 수 있도록 하는 운송의 특성을 가리킨다. 인터모달리티의 추진은 운송 및 물류 시스템의 효율성 제고뿐만 아니라 운송으로 인한 외부비용의 감소에도 유효하게 작용함으로써 그 중요성이 국제적으로 인정받고 있다. 최근 국내에서도 환경부하를 줄이고 지속가능한 운송체계 구축을 위해 인터모달 운송시스템 구축을 위한 정책을 추진하고 있으나 여전히 개선의 조짐을 보이지 않고 있다. 특히 육상운송에서 도로운송의 대체수단으로서 그 역할을 수행해야 할 철도는 각종 제약으로 인해 화주가 원하는 서비스를 제공하지 못하고 있어 대책마련이 시급한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 지속 가능하면서 효율적인 물류를 실현하기 위해 인터모달 운송시스템 정비에 노력해 오고 있으며 특히 정보통신기술 등의 활용을 통해 철도 인터모달 통합운영체계 구축에 선제적으로 대응해 오고 있는 미국의 사례를 살펴봄으로써 국내 철도 인터모달 운송 시스템의 정비와 추진을 위한 제반과제에 대하여 검토해 보았다. Purpose : In this study, we have been trying to improve the intermodal logistics system to realize sustainable and efficient logistics. Especially, we will look into the cases of U.S. which has been preemptively responding to the construction of a railway intermodal integrated operating system through the use of information communication technologies and examine the various tasks for the maintenance and promotion of the domestic railway intermodal transportation system. Research design, data, methodology : The paper used a qualitative research methodology through the literature review. Results : In the U.S., information technology such as cargo identification, information systems for vehicle position tracking and monitoring, sensors and ITS have been important projects to improve the efficiency of intermodal transportation. Test and demonstration project have been carried out to identify the ITS techniques applicable to intermodal cargoes. As a result, the ITS architecture and its criteria have been set up for cargo identification technology that considers interoperability and security control. In Korea, it is necessary to construct a railway intermodal transportation system in terms of environment and logistics efficiency. For this, it is necessary to construct a real-time response system using system architecture setting for railway intermodal users, development of intermodal information system, interface development with other traffic information system, ICT. Conclusions : In Korea, measures are urgently needed that can provide transportation system and logistics service to meet the demand of shippers and to guarantee for social and economic growth. For this purpose, it is necessary to secure the accessibility, mobility and service improvement of the railway by securing the connection with other transportation and traffic information system. It is also necessary to develop railway intermodal transportation facilities over a long period of time, and to access them through a nodal point of view, but this requires time and costly constraints. This disadvantage can be solved by securing the flow of railway cargo without interruption by utilizing information technology such as ITS and ICT. It also has the advantage of contributing to the improvement of the environment by increasing the use efficiency of railway freight stations, vehicles, and transportation infrastructure. This study of intermodal transport in the United States is important that provides opportunities to assess current information and communication technologies and to identify issues to be studied in the future, as well as to anticipate changes and trends in the operation of domestic intermodal transportation systems.

        Osteoclast Differentiation Factor Engages the PI 3-Kinase , p38 , and ERK pathways for Avian Osteoclast Differentiation

        Osteoclasts, cells primarily involved in bone resorption, originate from the hematopoietzc precursor cells of the monocyte/macrophage lineage and differentiate into multinucleated mature forms. We developed an in vitro osteoclast culture system using embryonic chicken bone marrow cells. This culture system can be utilized in studies on the differentiation and function of osteoclasts. Phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3-kinase) and mitogenactivated protein kinases (MAPKs) have been implicated in diverse cellular functions including proliferation, migration, and survival. Using the developed avian osteoclast culture system, we examined the involvement of these kinases in osteoclast differentiation by employing specific inhibitors of the kinases. We Found that the inhibition of the PI 3-kinase, p38, or ERK interfered with osteoclast formation, suggesting that the signaling pathways that involve these molecules participate in the process of chicken osteoclast differentiation.

        화주 · 국제물류업체의 친환경수송에 대한 인식평가와 시사점

        Based on the fact that shippers’ intent also plays an important role in the selection of means of transportation and the systematization of logistics, this study examined possibilities of modal shift to railroad through shippers’ and multimodal transporters’ evaluation and analysis of eco-friendly transportation. According to the examination above, it was confirmed that eco-friendly transportation by domestic shippers and multimodal transporters are conducted, in many cases, by railroad-specialized multimodal transporters with revenue of 500 billion Won and more container use of 5,000 TEU and non-railroad-using shippers with transport volume of certain amount, the customer base with high regard for importance of eco-friendly transportation whether or not they are currently using railroad transportation, from a tactical perspective. For future modal shift to railroad transportation, above all, it is necessary to promote conversion to railroad transportation from a strategic perspective through building an alliance among shippers, railroad-specialized multimodal transporters and KORAIL, accompanied by an upgrading of the role of KORAIL.
