        Since 1950 the causes of death in Korean Hemorrhagic Fever were changed becouse of the improvement of patient treatment based on its pathophysiology. From Jan. 1971 to Dec. 1972 we experienced 50 fetal cases and the mortality rate was about 7%. In previous report aproximately 2/3 of death occured at oliguric phase and remainging 1/3 at hypotensive phase. The major causes of death were pulmonary edema & bleeding, acute renal failure and shock. Our data revealed systemic infection (28%), C.N.S. problem (possibly cerebral hemorrhage)(22%), pulmonary edema & bleeding (16%), and shock(14%) as major causes of death. The deaths of each phase were as the following. Hypotensive‥‥‥7(14%). Oliguric‥‥‥31(62%). Diuretic‥‥‥11(22%). Convalescent‥‥‥1(2 The major problems in managing patients that was experienced by authors were shock and pulmonary edema, systemic infection, severe hyperkalemia and cerebral complication, possibly cerebral hemorrhage.

      • 1972년 서울에 유행한 Influenza A₂Variant, A/Korea/72(H₃N₂)의 임상 역학적 관찰

        1) Influenza type A/Hong Kong/68 had been in epidemics all over the south Korea including Seoul, the capital city of Korea, from March to May on 1971. About one year later, from March to May on 1972, influenza type A/Korea/72(H₃N₂)(=A/Hong Kong/5/72) took apeak of spreading in the every corner of this country. 2) Both types of epidemic influenza had no distinctive difference each other in clinical features and attack rate in each age group. 3) The attack rate in 1972 was 53% among 198 cases who had been contracked by influenza in 1971. And from the study of innocent 101 cases, the attack rate in 1972 was 49%. This result suggested that the immunity was not obtained adequately through the epidemics of influenza in 1971. 4) The increased incidence of bronchitis, pneumonia and pyothorax during influenza epidemics compared to that during the non-epidemics seems to be related to the outbrek of the influenza. The bacterial cultures of the sputum from the pneumonia patient in influenza epidemic showed in order of frequency as following, staphylococcus aureus, pseudomonas species, aerobacter species, and hemolytic streptococcus.

        Genetic Distribution Pattern of Bluegill Sunfish Lepomis macrochirus in Freshwater Ecosystems across Korea

        Lepomis macrochirus from the family Centrarchidae, commonly known as Bluegill sunfish, is an introduced freshwater fish in Korea that thrives in lakes, ponds, reservoirs and rivers. Since its introduction into Korea in 1969, Lepomis macrochirus has rapidly dispersed out and increased in number almost all over the freshwater ecosystems in Korea. Consequently this species causes a severe ecological problem, threatening native fishes due to its omnivorous foraging behaviors upon fish juveniles and many freshwater invertebrates. To address population genetic structure of L. macrochirus, 74 fish samples from 10 populations were collected and compared for their mitochondrial D-loop control region. As the result we found that the genetic diversity of L. macrochirus is extremely low such as resulting only four haplotypes with a few nucleotide differences among them. Analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) revealed that the source of population genetic variation is largely retained in the comparisons among individuals within populations, while it is relatively low with slight significance at the highest hierachical group. This distribution pattern differs from what is expected when biogeography is under the influence of natural geographic barriers such as mountain ranges in Korea. Instead the result is accord with the influential role of random spreading events facilitated by local people for aquaculture and fishing, and subsequent dispersals since its single point of introduction ito Korea.

        Effect of Various Leg-Crossing Positions on Muscle Activities of Rectus Femoris, Tensor Fascia Latae, and Hamstring in Healthy 20`s Adults

        Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of leg-crossing positions on muscle activities of rectus femoris, tensor fascia latae, and hamstring in healthy 20`s adults. Methods: Twenty healthy subjects were asked to perform three leg-crossing positions, leg crossing (LC), tailor crossing (TC), and ankle crossing (AC). Surface electromyography (EMG) was used to evaluate the activities of rectus femoris, tensor fascia latae, and hamstring during upright sit posture (UP) and three leg-crossing positions and UP was compared to three leg-crossing positions. Repeated one way ANOVA was used for data analysis. The alpha level was set at 0.05. Results: The results showed significant difference in the muscle activities of rectus femoris, tensor fascia latae, and hamstring among leg-crossing positions. The muscle activity of the rectus femoris was significantly lower in LC and TC positions than UP. The muscle activity of tensor fascia latae was significantly higher in LC position than UP and other leg-crossing positions. The muscle activity of hamstring was significantly higher in LC and TC positions and significantly lower in AC position than in UP. Conclusion: Our study suggests that the activity of hip muscles was affected by pelvic and knee alignment in various leg-crossing positions.

        Effect of a Workplace-Based Work-Conditioning Program on Management of Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a workplace-based work-conditioning program (WCP) on the management of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMDs) in an automo-bile-parts manufacturing company. In total, 1,110 subjects with WRMDs participated in workplace-based WCP emphasizing function-centered management and ergonomics. We investigated the incidence of WRMDs variables (number of persons diagnosed with industrial accident-related WRMDs, number of cases of WRMD) and financial benefits (cost of workers' compensation insurance and lost work days related to WRMDs) per year before and after WCP. Additionally, we compared self-reported pain intensity and functional disability in subjects with musculoskeletal pain before and after the WCP. Pain intensity was measured using a visual analog scale (VAS), and functional disability was measured by the neck disability index (NDI) and the Oswestry disability Index (ODI). The number of person diagnosed with in dustrial accident-related WRMDs, the number of cases of WRMD, the cost of workers' compensation in surance and lost work days related to WRlVIDs per year decreased by 51%, 37%, 34%, and 47%, respectively, and VAS, NDI, and am scores decreased significantly after implementation of WCP (p

        Comparison of Dose Assessement Programs; DOSE, LIMCAL and PABLM

        DOSE, LIMCAL 그리고 PABLM을 포함한 방사선피폭선량프로그램에 대하여 비교연구가 행하여졌다. DOSE 프로그램은 국내 중. 저준위 방사선폐기물 처분 예비안전성평가를 위해 확립되었으며, 나머지 두 프로그램은 안전성 평가에 적용한 바 있는 프로그램들이다. 연구결과는 C-14과 Pu-239를 제외하고 1승(mrem/yr)범위에서 잘 일치하고 있다. PABLM은 DOSE와 LIMCAL과 비교할 때 Pu-239의 경우에서 작게 나타나고 있는 반면에 C-14의 경우에는 크게 나타나고 있다. C-14의 편차는 소개된 이동모델에서의 차이 때문이며 Pu-239의 차이는 두 프로그램과 다른 선량전환인자 값을 적용함으로써 발생한 것임을 알 수 있다. A comparison study is performed on dose assessment programs including DOSE, LIMCAL, and PABLM, DOSE is a program developed for preliminary safety assessments of the low-and intermediate-level radioactive waste disposal, and the others are existing programs applicable to similar calculations. The results show acceptable agreement within an order of magnitude(mrem/yr) except for C-14 and Pu-239. PABLM results higher dose for C-14 while lower value for Pu-239 in comparison with those from DOSE or LIMCAL. It is found that the discrepancy in C-14 is due to difference in transport model introduced and that in Pu-239 is from the different value of dose conversion factor to each program.

        교각운동시 이마면에서 엉덩관절 위치가 배근육 근활성도에 미치는 영향

        본 연구의 목적은 이마면에서 엉덩관절 위치에 따라 배근육들의 근활성도를 측정하여 비교함으로 이마면에서 엉덩관절의 위치가 배근육들의 근활성도에 영향을 미치는지 알아보는 것이다. 연구방법은 20대의 건강한 남녀 26명을 대상으로 엉덩관절 중립, 모음, 그리고 벌림 자세에 따라 교각운동을 하였을 때 표면 근전도 장비를 이용하여 양쪽 배곧은근과 배바깥빗근, 배속빗근의 근활성도를 비교하였다. 통계 방법은 반복측정 일요인 분산분석을 실시하였고, 유의수준은 0.05로 하였다. 연구 결과 배바깥빗근과 배속빗근은 이마면에서 엉덩관절 위치에 따라 유의한 차이가 있었고, 배곧은근은 유의한 차이가 없었다. 양쪽 배바깥빗근과 왼쪽 배속빗근은 엉덩관절 중립자세보다 엉덩관절 모음 자세에서 근활성도가 유의하게 증가하였으며 오른쪽 배속빗근은 엉덩관절 벌림 자세보다 엉덩관절 모음 자세에서 근활성도가 유의하게 증가하였다. 본 연구를 통해 엉덩관절 모음 자세가 다른 자세들에 비해 안정화운동에 더욱 효과적일 수 있다는 것을 알 수 있었고, 안정화운동 프로그램을 고안할 때 운동의 강도를 조절하기 위해 이마면에서 엉덩관절의 위치에 대한 요소를 적용할 수 있을 것이다. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the hip positions in frontal plane on abdominal muscle activities during bridging exercise. Twenty six subjects who have healthy conditions were asked to perform bridging exercise in three starting positions which are hip abduction, neutral and hip adduction. We used surface electromyography to compare the activities of both external oblique, internal oblique and rectus abdominis muscle. We analyzed the data by using repeated one way ANOVA, The alpha level was set at 0.05. The results showed that the muscle activities of both sides of external oblique, and internal oblique were significantly different among three starting positions. The activity of both sides of rectus abdominis were insignificantly different among three positions. The muscle activities of both sides of external oblique muscle and left internal oblique in bridging exercise with hip adduction position were significantly greater than hip neutral positions. The muscle activity of right internal oblique in bridging exercise with hip abduction positions. Our results suggest that bridging exercise with hip adduction position is recommended to lumbar stabilization exercise and the factor of hip position is important for controlling exercise intensity when designing bridging exercise program.
