Isolation of Toxic Saponins from the Roots of Patrinia scabiosaefolia
Won Sick Woo,Jae Sue Choi,Kuk Hyun Shin 한국생약학회 1985 생약학회지 Vol.16 No.4
During the biological screening of Chinese drugs, it was found that alcoholic extract of the roots of Patrinia scabiosaefolia (Valerianaceae) caused a significant prolongation of hexobarbital-induced sleeping time and elevation of serum transaminase activities accompanied by severe histopathological changes in the hepatic tissues in mice on three day pretreatments. The systematic fractionation of the methanol extract monitoring by bioassay led to isolation of toxic saponins such as 3-O-α-L-arabinopyranosyl hederagenin 28-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl (1→6)-D-glucopyranoside and its 2`-acetate and 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl (1→3)-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl (1→2)-α-L-arabinopyranosyl oleanolic acid and its 28-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl (1→6)-β-D-glucopyranoside.
Furoquinoline Alkaloids in Dictamus albus Root Bark
Won Sick Woo,Sam Sik Kang 한국생약학회 1985 생약학회지 Vol.16 No.3
From the root bark of Dictamnus albus (Rutaceae) five furoquinoline alkaloids, robustine, dictamine, γ-fagarine, skimmianine and haplopine were isolated and characterized by spectral data.
A sapogenin of randia siamensis
Woo, Won-Sick,Choi, Jae-Sue,Tovivich, Phichai The Pharmaceutical Society of Korea 1984 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.7 No.1
From the roots of Randia siamensis (Rubiaceae), 3${\beta}$, 30-dihydroxy-urs-12en-28-oic acid (30-hydroxy ursolic acid) was isolateed and characterized by spectral data.
A survey of the action of Korean angelica plants on drug metabolism
Woo, Won-Sick,Shin, Kuk-Hyun,Ryu, Kyung-Soo The Pharmaceutical Society of Korea 1980 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.3 No.2
Eight species of the genus Angelica in Korea were examined for the activity of affecting drug metabolism and for the presence of coumarins. The results showed that various parts, especially roots and fruits of Angelica plants had strong effects on drug metabolism and that they contained various derivatives of coumarins.
Central Nervous Depressant Activity of Piperine
Woo, Won-Sick,Lee, Eun-Bang,Shin, Kuk-Hyun The Pharmaceutical Society of Korea 1979 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.2 No.2
Piperine showed a central nervous system depressant activity which was characterized by the antagonistic effect against chemoshock seizure as well as potent muscular incoordination in mice.
A survey of the response of Korean medicinal plants on drug metabolism
Woo, Won-Sick,Shin, Kuk-Hyun,Kim, In-Chull,Lee, Chung-Kyu The Pharmaceutical Society of Korea 1978 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.1 No.1
Alcohol extracts of plants widely used in the traditional medicine have been tested to establish if they affect the metabolism of drug in mice. Forteen of the plants tested exhibited prolonging and/or inhibitory effect on hexobarbital sleeping time. Some of them also showed increasing effect on strychnine mortality, whereas piperis retrofracti Fructus reduced the toxicity of strychnine.
Effect of six chinese drugs on serum transaminase activity and liver tissue in mice
Woo, Won-Sick,Shin, Kuk-Hyun,Lee, Chung-Kyu The Pharmaceutical Society of Korea 1981 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.4 No.2
The method extracts of Patriniae radix, Dianthii herba, Melandrii herba, Echinopii radix, Siegesbeckiae herba and Magnoliae cortex showed a significant elevation of serum transam inase activity accompanied by fatty degeneration and Kupffer accompanied by fatty degeneration and Kupffer cell activation in hepatic cells.
